The Love We Had Page 6

by C Monet

In the car, I couldn’t help but steal glances at her. A year ago I thought we would be divorced and starting lives without one another. I thought it would be hard to see her around, even harder if she was with someone else. I imagined we would have cut communication and pretended that what we had wasn’t important. But after she came to Toronto things changed with a snap of a finger.

We came home enrolled in counseling for our marriage and also for her struggles. Both went hand in hand and now I couldn’t ask for a better relationship. Our communication is better, and the love is stronger. All that we went through was to get us to this moment. We weren’t ready to bring a child into our chaos. Now we were both ready to bring Namiko Layne Belton into a loving family with a solid foundation.

“We made it, you ready?” I asked as we pulled up to the hospital in town. This wasn’t her plan, but she had gotten much better with not trying to control every aspect of our lives. That type of control led to disappointment.

“Yea ready to get her hairy ass out of me, let’s go.”

It didn’t take us long to get a room and for her to be ready. Her labor was moving quickly and without challenges. I was a ball of nerves as she continued to look at me with so much hate. The guys at work warned me that for a split second I would be on the top of her shit list.

“Get ready dad, we are about to start pushing.”

Grabbing her hand, Charlotte burst through the doors to grab her leg. She was squeezing so tightly I would soon be in the hospital getting a new hand. She screamed and grunted and as ugly as it may have looked it was almost the most beautiful moment of my life. She was making my dream come true even if that meant she was in pain.

  “One more push mom.”

“ARRGHHH,” she screamed as melodic cries filled the room. Namiko was here and beautiful just like her mother. Naomi was crying and so were me and Charlotte. I had them both and that was all I could ever ask for.

My emotions overtook me as they laid Nami on her mother's chest for the first skin to skin contact. She stared at her and I knew we made the right decision to fight and stay in this thing. We would have missed out on the biggest piece of us by giving up. Namiko was here in the flesh as a true symbol of our love and sacrifices. She was love.

“I love you so much Namiko. Thank you for making us whole,” I said kissing her forehead and then kissing Naomi. The moment before us would forever be etched in my brain and heart. This was why I was put on earth. It was a simple math equation of two plus one equaled three but carried so much power.

  About the Author

I want my characters to be relatable, as my own story is of trials, then triumph."

Life after blogging pushed the dream of becoming an author to the forefront for author C.Monet. Never in a million years did a small town girl from Clarksville TN, expect to become an author of several books that are sprinkled with heroines, villains, charm, love, scandals, and drama. With inspiration from books like A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown, and B More Careful, C. Monet's writing style grew into one filled with love and transparency. Once life started to happen for and around her she grabbed the pen and decided to unmute her truth. She pens love unfiltered and undefined because rules can’t exist with creativity. Her characters give a piece of her that you just can’t get from a bio. She creates characters that are relatable and convey a story of trials to triumph. The poetry in the author's words take you to a place filled with dreams and aspirations of love and how it heals the soul. C. Monet is a lover of wine, cheesy movies, cupcakes, and R & B music. While she loves to be home away from the noise of the word she can’t help but be considered an introverted extrovert when the Sagittarius in her kicks in and kicks up. She's currently signed to B. Love, where she's released over 10 books and hopes to release plenty more to provide the ultimate escape into a world between pages and words. Connect with her by subscribing to her website and following her on social media.
