Never Been Kissed
Page 23
It was a beautiful night for a wedding. Outside, fresh snow covered the ground and a full moon lit the star-studded sky. The church was packed to the rafters with her family and his, old friends and new, and patients from the nursing home whose eyes were already glistening with tears.
Standing at the altar, Reilly watched Janey walk down the aisle toward him on Joe’s arm and felt his heart swell with love. Lord, she was pretty! And everything he wanted.
She reached him then and took his hand, and he couldn’t stop smiling. He hadn’t said anything to Janey, but deep down inside, he wondered about the ceremony itself and what he would feel when it began, but he needn’t have worried. As Joe turned her over to him and the minister began to speak the well-known words that bound a man and woman in marriage, he felt nothing but peace. And that’s when he knew Victoria was there. He couldn’t see her, of course, but he felt her presence near him and a love that knew no boundaries. And just that easily, he knew she was beaming in approval. That was all he needed to make the night perfect.
