Alien Dragon's Bride (Aliens of Renjer Book 4)

“It’s too dangerous here.” Not that he could do anything about it. Unless they got to the teleport room, which in most ships was near the heart of the control room and heavily guarded, she was stuck with them.
She punched a finger into his chest. “Do you have any idea what I’ve been through? How crushing it was not to know if you were alive or dead or what had happened to you? I won’t go through that again. Ever.”
Drawing her to him, he kissed her softly. “If we get out of this alive, I will never leave you again.”
“Promise?” She smiled up at him with a wicked grin.
Before he could answer, shouts from behind them echoed. “There they are! Get them!”
He pulled Megan behind him, tightening his grip on the metal pipe. His dragon, which had been injured in the woods before he rescued Megan and Alice from the burning cafe, was gone. He felt the hollowness of its absence inside his soul. Like an ever-present void pulsed in him, that would never be filled again.
How many days had it taken for the Tryns to rip his dragon from him? Endless hours of torture and drugs so that he didn’t even feel traces of his true form anymore. The loss of it staggered him. And if he lost Megan too…he wouldn’t be able to survive. Her voice and touch had brought him from the brink of despair but he would never find his way back again if something happened to her or their baby.
What had these vile Tryns done to her that she appeared six months pregnant? Sure he’d lost time but doubtful they’d have kept him and the others alive that long.
“Stay behind me. Anything happens, then you run like hell and don’t stop. Find the teleportation room and get yourself back to Earth. My people will protect you.” Of course, they would now because she was pregnant. Why couldn’t his dad have listened to him before when she was only a human. That it didn’t matter if she ever carried a Renjerian or not, she was his heart, his soul, she completed him like no one else could. They should’ve protected her from the beginning, then triplets wouldn’t have been captured.
Trans spilled into the landing bay. Eight huge ones and dozens more of their pesky smaller versions that had venomous bites.
Vorlmex, a Renjerian nearest to the enemy swung his fist, but the Tryn dodged and grabbed his arm, twisting it behind him. Another kicked Vorlmex in the ribs again and again.
Taking a step forward, Levx raised his weapon. He would die before he let one of these filthy creatures touch her. The nearest Tryn whistled and dozens of pint-size ones crept forward. Levx chunked one of the empty boxes at the beast. The monster bellowed, clutching its arm.
“There’s too many of them.” Megan backed up, pulling on him. “We have to get out of here.”
“Nowhere to go.”
Another Tryn leaped onto Megan’s back. Fury boiled in Levx’s veins and his heart stuttered. Before it sank its poisonous teeth into her flesh, Levx knocked it off her with the pipe.
“Come on, we have to find a way to get you out.” He tugged her to his side.
She screamed and was wrenched away from him. A demon larger than he’d ever seen held her by the back of her neck. Her feet dangled in the air as she kicked and twisted to try and get away.
“The little mouse ran away but the Tryn caught her.” It grinned. “She will make a tasty prize after the larva have been implanted.”
“Let go of me, bastard!” Her hands glowed but he kept her from touching him by throwing her against the landing bay’s doors.
“Megan!” His anger spun to rage. Levx let out a roar that was more Renjerian than human. His heart froze as her body slumped to the ground. Diving forward, he plowed into the Tryn’s gut, taking them both to the ground. His dragon, the one he’d thought was gone forever, raged forward. Maimed but there. With Megan a safe distance away, he blasted fire at the Tryn, not stopping until the beast was hot ash beneath him.
Then Levx turned to Megan, racing to her side. He cupped her cheek.
She groaned, her face swelling from the impact. “I thought your dragon was gone?”
“So did I.” He kissed her forehead. “You helped me recover my true form.”
“You’ll have to take me flying sometime.” She teased.
“Anytime you want, sweetheart.”
“What about the others?” She winced as she sat up fully.
“Stay here, I’ll help with them.” Kissing her pout, he left the pipe with her in case she needed to protect herself. He didn’t need the weapon anymore. With his fire breath, the Tryns were soon defeated and the ship cleansed of the vermin.
Levx gently laid his hand on Megan’s abdomen. “Don’t ever risk your life for me again. You’ve got to think about yourself and our child.” He still couldn’t believe he was going to be a father. Joy bubbled over in his heart.
“About that…it’s not one baby…it’s three. All girls.”
And just when he thought his love couldn’t grow anymore, it overflowed. He felt lucky. Invincible. “Are you okay with that? I mean they won’t be human.”
She placed her hand over his. “Levx, I don’t care they are yours and mine. As long as they are healthy and whole and can turn into a badass dragon-like their dad, then I’m happy.”
Drawing her into his embrace, he kissed her until they were both panting.
“I never got to thank you for saving my dad,” her voice was wistful and soft.
“You’re welcome.” He entwined his fingers with hers. “Is he okay with being a grandfather ‘cause we might ask him to babysit sometimes.”
She bit her lower lip, her eyes huge. “Oh god, no. He doesn’t know. There wasn’t time and I was concerned about finding you and triplets and everyone.”
“It’s okay. I’m sure he’ll get used to the idea.”
He trailed a hand down her arm. “How about we get the hell out of here so we can actually consummate our relationship. I mean all we’ve done is kiss and you’re pregnant.”
“Are you suggesting we practice baby making?” She batted her eyelashes.
“I’m suggesting that I can’t live without you. That you are the light of my life. I love you. And if you don’t want to have sex with an alien…a dragon shifter… then I—”
Her kiss silenced him and he wrapped his arms around her. Even though he hadn’t been looking, he’d found love and she was worth everything and more.
Epilogue
“Push, Megan,” Levx echoed Dena’s instructions. All three girls were breech but Megan had said she didn’t want a C-section if she could avoid it. Nerves thrashed against his insides. Yet every time she glanced his way, he smiled despite the fact her grip was cutting off the circulation off in his hand. Not to mention her nails piercing into his flesh but he would rip out his spleen if he could ease her pain.
“You push!” She gritted out. “Why did I let you talk me into this?”
“Honey, I wasn’t there, remember?” he said gently.
Her nails dug deeper into his skin as a contraction shoved through her. “Right. Don’t ever get captured again or I might just leave you there next time.”
Of course, she was angry with him. Childbirth wasn’t easy and best he could do was be here for her now. “I’m not going anywhere.”
She screamed, and his heart seized. The dragon inside him wanting to burst free and stop whoever was hurting her.
“Okay, the body’s out, now push as hard as you can for the head.” Dena knelt down at the end of the bed.
“You can do it, love.” He kissed her knuckles.
A hard grunt followed by a plopping sound echoed followed with a loud cry.
“Congratulations, daughter number one is here.”
“Mira,” Megan said awe filling her voice.
“Such a beautiful name,” Isabella came forward with blankets to wrap the baby in. Then she bent down for Megan to kiss Mira’s cheek. She turned to Levx. “You wanna hold her?”
“Of course.” He cradled his daughter to his chest. One of his many miracles. “So gorgeous like your momma.”r />
She yelled at another contraction that racked Megan. Levx gave Mira to Isabella and crouched by Megan’s side. “C’mon honey.”
The second girl shot out so fast Dena had to make a grab to catch her. “Well, this one is ready for the world,” she said.
“Jazmin.” Levx named her after his grandmother. After she received a kiss from him and Megan, Ash whisked her away to get her cleaned up.
“Okay, last girl.” Dena patted Megan’s knee. “You’re doing great.”
“I-I can’t push anymore, I’m too tired.” Her weak voice shattered Levx’s heart.
“Yes, you can.” He kissed her. “You faced off against Tryns, came after me and the others to rescue us. You’re a warrior queen. Now bring our last warrior princess into this world.”
“It’s too hard.”
“I know it is, sweetie, but you’re amazing. You got this.” He squeezed her hand. “Just pretend I snored really loud and the only way to stop the noise is to push.”
“You do snore.”
“No, I don’t,” he scoffed. “That’s dragon breathing.”
“Whatever it is you’re not allowed to sleep in the room with the girls, it’ll wake them up and scare them.” She frowned, her brow pinching in the start of another contraction.
“Nah, it’ll sooth them to sleep…like red noise.”
“Wha—ah.” She bit down, pushing. After a few seconds, the contraction passed. “Like what now? What’s red noise?”
“You know. Rain, ocean waves, forest sounds—it was on the baby machine we looked at.”
She laughed and shook her head. “White noise.”
“Hey you two, we got a baby in here that needs to come out.” Dena stood and lightly pressed down on Megan’s belly. “When I say, push as hard as you can. Now!”
Megan’s face turned white.
“What is it, what’s wrong?” Panic choked him.
“Push Megan, don’t hold back, push!” Dena yelled. “Help me sit her up, the baby’s head is stuck.
Both Ash and Isabelle rushed over to aid Levx in lifting Megan onto her feet.
“Ah…I can’t do this…it hurts too much.”
“One more time, baby, just once more as hard as you can,” he whispered into her ear even though his heart was breaking into a thousand shards cutting him everywhere.
She screamed and pushed. Their third daughter with Dena gently pulling on the baby’s torso, Isabelle rubbing Megan’s back and Levx on one side of Megan and Ash on the other came into the world.
Her hiccupped cry vibrated through the chamber.
“Rose…after my mom.” Megan slouched against him.
Levx’s heart burst in his chest. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Megan said weakly.
Three months later, his three daughters and bride had totally rearranged his life and he couldn’t wish for anything more.
“The girls tucked in for the night?” Megan asked.
“Yup, sleeping soundly with their dragon blankets.” The only blankets the girls had wanted since they were born.
Megan sliced the cake. “Okay, we just need to get rid of the rest of our company so we can have some alone time while the kids are asleep.”
“You don’t want to spend a full evening with your dad and mine and Alice?” he asked, licking a piece of icing off the chocolate cake. Meagan’s human friend had been good for his father. As reigning king over their people, he had reduced his requirement for Renjerians to find fertile human females. All were allowed to find mates to love and marry. And if any human woman was in jeopardy, whoever wished to assist her was welcome to do so.
“Ah no, someone has been over here nearly every night since the birth. I want to have time with my husband.” She flipped another piece of cake onto an empty plate
He grabbed her around the waist and spun her around. Her surprised cry made his lust surge. “Are you suggesting what I think you are?”
“Well, yes.” A faint blush colored her cheeks. “Dena stopped by this afternoon when you were changing the girls and said she thought my body was healed up from whatever the Tryns had done and the rapid pregnancy I had.”
They’d barely four months, and that was with Dena monitoring the pregnancy and bedrest before their daughters were born. He kissed Megan until she clung to him.
“How long does it take to cut cake?” her dad called from the living room.
“Be right there.” She giggled and picked up two plates. Over her shoulder, she added, “I love you and your family, Levx. But if we don’t get them out of here in twenty minutes, I’m taking you into the bathroom and I don’t care who is around to hear us.”
“Lead the way fair maiden.” He winked. “I promise I’ll get them to leave in half that time.”
“You’re on.” She blew him a kiss and his steps lightened.
She and the girls were everything to him. A year ago, he couldn’t have imagined what his life would be like now. He lived for destroying the enemy and never looking back. His life had a purpose besides warfare. Four lives depending on him, filling him with love and happiness. And for once, that was enough. He had a feeling they would keep him content and busy for many, many years to come.
