  “What’s this?”

“I’m not at liberty to say. I’ll see myself out. You two, have a good day.”

They watched as the strange man left the room. A moment or two later they heard the sound of the front door closing. Dasia and G both took a seat on the couch.

  “Any ideas?” G asked.

  “None.”

Dasia slid her finger under the flap and pulled the folded stack of documents from the envelope. Tears began to stream down her face as she read through the papers. She turned her teary eyes to her husband.

  “Dasia, sweetheart, what’s wrong?”

“Oh my God, he never updated the will. He left everything to me.”

“Who? What are you talking about?”

“Jeremiah. Ah, man. Before the wedding, his lawyer drew up a new will to cover the things I’d be entitled to, should anything happen to him. He already had one of the family homes, and some land he planned to develop. With all that was going on, he must have forgotten about the will. I get everything—the house, the land, the insurance money, everything. It’s all here in black and white.”

G couldn’t believe it. Maybe Jeremiah had finally realized what a huge mistake he’d made treating Dasia the way he did. For some reason, he didn’t think this was an oversight. Knowing how the Delpriore family worked, crossing every T and dotting every I, no one would have let something this big slide. Even in death, maybe the man had tried to make things right.

Though G suspected someone would come knocking at their door to dispute the will as soon as the elders of the Delpriore family discovered that their precious baby boy had neglected to secure the family estate, he decided to let Dasia make the decision about what to do with her new windfall. He’d already gotten everything he needed. He had his wife, his child, and he was satisfied just loving Dasia.
