Falling for the Firefighter

  Evander is reminding me to tell you about the house because I got distracted. He’s smiling a lot. I think he likes writing to you, too. (Note from Evander: I do, actually.) The house has lots of Christmas lights around the door and lots of trees and a big backyard. It’s Evander’s old house but he says you haven’t been there in a really long time because he’s all grown up now. I think it’s silly that you don’t come to his house now that he’s big. Everyone needs Santa and gifts. Maybe then they would still believe and be nicer to each other. But Evander is nice even though he doesn’t believe anymore.

  In case you don’t remember the house it’s white and it’s close to the park. It’s not very close to my school though so my mom has to give me a ride on her way to go work on the island by our cottage. They are making a place for people to take a holiday that’s not bad for the environment. It means that Mom and Evander have to talk about it a lot and it’s very boring. Uncle Connor and Uncle Tristen like to talk about it a lot, too. Uncle Finian is okay though. He doesn’t talk about it all the time. Only sometimes. He likes to talk about movies and movie stars. They are very pretty. He knows Ashley Judd—she was in Tooth Fairy. It’s really funny. Evander says it wasn’t that good and he’d only give it two stars but I would give it a thousand! I think Mrs. Claus would like it. You should get it for her for Christmas! And maybe some warm slippers so she can wear them when she watches the movie. That’s what I do. She’ll laugh a lot so don’t give her anything to drink or it might come out her nose.

  I don’t have to go to the babysitter’s very much anymore which is too bad. Evander showed me how to protect myself like I mean business. So I showed the boy who pushed me down and he stopped pushing me because he could see that I knew business now. We’re friends sometimes except I don’t see him. We go to different schools and not the babysitter’s this year. My teacher’s name rhymes with Walrus. It’s funny because she’s really skinny and doesn’t look like one. She’s very pretty like a Barbie doll. She thinks Evander is good-looking and a nice man. She says any woman would be lucky to have him. I told her he was taken and to back off because I knew business and I wasn’t afraid to use it. I had to tell Evander five times to write that down! He doesn’t write everything I tell him to like my mom does. He keeps asking questions and telling me I shouldn’t tell you some things because they aren’t what you put in a letter to Santa. Duh. He doesn’t know we write letters to each other all the time and that I tell you everything. If you’re friends with somebody you don’t hold things back. That’s what Mom says.

  Love forever and ever. Write back soon and give Rudolph a snuggle from me. And rub his nose, too. He likes that lots.

  Tigger (Kim)

  * * *

  P.S. From Evander de la Fosse—Tigger’s new daddy. Thank you for bringing light into my life again. I will always believe—despite what Tigger says—as well as believe in the power of love. Merry Christmas, big guy.

  * * *

  P.P.S. Don’t eat the gingerbread cookies Tigger made for you. Her mother is trying to cut back on how much sugar they put in their cookies and it’s not necessarily the best thing for ginger cookies unless you enjoy a lot of spice. I’ll try to swap them out for chocolate chip ones before you come.
