ZaVeraid Trilogy: Awe Page 5

by Alexa Hoffman

There were two things in that statement that made me want to punch someone in the face. One was that everyone still calls me kid, when I have probably experienced more than they have. Second was that the only thing I had to hold onto was hope that I would get back home, and people that said that were denying my hope.

I pushed through the laughs and the scorn by going out onto a balcony that was attached to my healing room. The sunset was always beautiful. One night I stayed out there longer than usual and saw all of the stars come out, and then I saw the beautiful sun rise again. One of my rare likes about this light column was that you could look at the sun as long as you want, and not go blind.

One day I was extremely fed up with people not believing in me. I had totally given up hope of ever seeing Warren, Carmen, and Liz again. I had refused food, refused water, and refused life. I decided that there was no point in living anymore, so I went on the balcony for the last time, and then I was going to lock myself in my room and just die out. The sun fell below the horizon, but when the moon rose, it wasn’t its usual pearly white, but a light orange, just like Warren’s eyes. Warren. I thought about what he said before he sent me here. You’re the one who has to rebuild the portal… you are the one who has to save us all! I have to send you Sam, there’s no way I’ll lose you!

No, I thought to myself, there’s no way Warren’s going to lose me. I have to rebuild that portal. I have to defeat the Tranel, and I have to help save everyone. I will see my friends again. I will get back to Earth.

NO ONE and NOTHING can stop me.
