He chuckled. "I'd say they're pretty astute as to what goes on with the four of you, yes. But, if we're talking about feelings, how about you tell me how you're feeling now? I know I wasn't easy on you." He studied her still tear-stained face closely.
"Sore. Really sore. I'm not going to be able to sit properly, I just know it!" She pouted, though he could tell that she was telling the truth. There was no way she'd be able to sit easily for at least a few days.
"Well, that was the intention, Elise. I want you to remember this, not just for any protests you may have about my need to keep you safe in the future, but also for any argument you may have about the same actions from your brothers. You should know that both Tom and Alex were seconds away from spanking you themselves after Meg's party, and Luke would have been the same, except that he wasn't there to see it."
"They wouldn't! Well, I know Alex threatened it, but he's known me longer. Tom and Luke just wouldn't!"
"Yes, they would, Elise. If, for any reason I'm not there, they would. I told them, before I even met you, that they should have put you over their knee long ago. But that's beside the point." He concealed a smile as she sucked in her breath at his words. "When I asked how you were feeling, I meant more than just your sore bottom."
"Oh!" She was quiet as she thought to herself. "I don't know how to describe it, Max..."
"Just try darling, we can talk about anything, remember?"
After a few minutes she said, "A bit embarrassed, I suppose. But less so than I'd have expected. I don't know... I just feel different from how it was when you spanked me before. The whole thing felt different. Before, I felt upset that I'd done something that could have ended up with one of us being hurt and I felt that somehow you spanking me made amends for that. Tonight's been different though. I feel more that it's made me feel more secure, safer perhaps. Is that silly?"
He felt love and relief wash over him in equal measure. "Not at all." He leaned down and kissed her. "That's how I wanted you to feel. That's how I always want you to feel." He kissed her again. "Now, though, I think you probably need to sleep." He sat up and gently removed her clothes that were still tangled around her before shedding his own and pulling the duvet around them.
"I thought I was getting 'slow and easy' tonight?" with a sleepy smile she quoted his earlier words back at him.
"Tomorrow, love. If you're feeling up to it, we've got all day." He smiled as she wrapped her arms round his neck and snuggled closer to him. "We don't fly to back to London for another two days, so we can take our time and do whatever you want."
"Mmm... Sounds good. You know," she looked up at him, "I might call home and just let them all know that we're fine and heading back to England on Monday. Maybe we could all have dinner together when we're back? I know you've met my brothers and Lily, but I can introduce you properly to Megan and Isabelle."
"I'd like that a lot, sweetheart. They'll probably be keen to hear about your plans with the new job, too."
"Mmm.... not just me on my own any more, I guess?"
"Absolutely not. It's me and you now, Elise, and the rest of your family, too. We're all involved and you're going to have to put up with all of us having an opinion on what you do from now on."
She smiled quietly to herself before putting her head back down on his shoulder and curling up to sleep. "Sounds good, Max. Sounds really good."

Lily's Story

Yet, she hesitates to trust him, to give her life over to him, as she has always been independent. When another sister criticizes her for allowing Tom to make her decisions, she decides to make a stand... but did she make the right decision for her, after all?
