“Hungry?” he asked her softly as he reached for a robe for her to put on.

“Not for food,” she responded as she reached for him. He had shed his jacket and bow tie and left on the crisp white shirt. She busied herself releasing the buttons and sliding the shirt off him. He pulled the white merino over his head and gave her access to his bare chest.

“You read my mind,” he told her huskily. “Making love to you has become an integral part of my life.”

“I am sure,” she said huskily. She unbuckled his pants and he helped her to pull it off along with his underwear.

“I can see that you are ready.” She said softly stroking his thick penis.

“I have been ready since I saw you coming up the walkway.” He rasped as she ran her fingertip over the tip of him.

“My husband, my man,” she murmured before taking him inside her mouth.

He went rigid with shock as her tongue touched the tip of him and her lips closed over his member. “Kadine, baby.” His body shuddered with the raw passion running through him at the warmth of her mouth working him. His hands clenched into fists as she took him deep into her throat! He wanted to tell her to stop because he did not want her gagging but the words could not pass his throat. When her fingers massaged his testicles slowly while her tongue made its way up and down the length of him that was when the tenuous control he had over his emotions broke completely! With a feral growl, he pulled her up and against him, his mouth burying itself on hers with such a bruising intensity that had her digging her short nails into his back! He pushed her back onto the bed and opening her legs he entered her, his mouth still ravishing hers! He did not have a long way to go, because his testicles were already tight with the orgasm pounding into them! He lifted her feet and wrapped them around her waist as he pounded into her, his body one tight coil just waiting to explode!

Kadine welcomed the roughness, reveling in it as she lifted her hips and met his thrusts with her own, and her body splintering into a million pieces. Her fingers dug into his taut flesh holding on as he pushed up and into her over and over again. He tore his mouth from hers and looked down at her, his dark blue eyes almost black from the emotions he could not control! “I can’t–” his voice broke as his body shuddered and gathering her close to him he spilt inside her, his body sagging and weak as he fell on top of her!

Kadine held him and bit into his shoulder as her orgasm washed over her, the tears coursing down her cheeks at the intensity of it!

  Chapter 10

As before the week they spent, it was so magical that something inside her wished they could stay! When they had been there before, the place had been so covered with snow that they had not been able to see anything. They took walks up trail and had picnics on grass as thick as carpeting. There were deer and squirrels running wild which Kadine insisted on taking pictures even though there was no cell phone reception there. He treated her with kid gloves, not allowing her to do anything including heating up the meal that had been sent up to them. They made love beneath the oak tree and stayed there completely naked as there was no one to disturb them. They bathed in the cold sparkling stream and made love in the bracing water. It was something that she had never dreamed would happen to her.

They were lying beneath the pine cone tree after having lunch on the last day when she told him about her parents. “Mama loved him to distraction and we could see it. She was patient and would be the one reading us stories at nights before we go to sleep. He would come in late every night. One night, I sneaked out of the room I shared with Karen and Kandy and listened at their door and heard when he told her that she knew before she married him that he could not be with one woman and that she should be grateful that she was wearing the ring. He was very handsome and she had always considered herself to be plain, so I guess he played on that.”

“He was not in love with her because we don’t fall in love with looks alone,” he brushed the hair from her face. A slight breeze had risen and stirred the leaves above them. One of his hands rested protectively on her belly as she laid there in his arms. “I love you for more than that. I was attracted the minute I looked at you, realizing how beautiful you are but over the days I fell in love with your mind and the way you laugh and the sound of your voice. As I get to know you, I am falling in love even more. When I made love to you that time when we came here I knew without a shadow of a doubt that there was no turning back for me. You will never have to wonder if I have anyone else. There never will be.”

“I know,” She murmured. “I guess that was one of the reasons why I remained single for so long. I used to feel so sorry for her and I would hug her and told her that I love her often. I ended up hating my dad and wishing that he would go away. They died together in an accident where he was driving and I mourned for her alone and not him.”

“It is natural to feel that way,” his arm tightened around her. “My dad stopped living right after his wife and his two children died and I guess I was a constant reminder of what was. I was so happy to go off to college and not see him moping around, it was completely depressing.”

“Now we have each other,” she murmured as she turned into his arms.

“Now we do.” He murmured as he wrapped his arms around her.

Kadine gripped her husband’s hand tightly as Doctor Whittingham looked at the grainy monitor. She was six months pregnant and she was starting to feel the weight in her back. She had stopped working recently at Scott’s insistence and was resting more. He had set up an area outside beneath a large apple tree complete with a lounge bed and fluffy pillows so she could stay outdoors and take in the various activities going on.

“Everything okay?” Scott felt the acute anxiety inside him but did not want to project it onto his wife. She had enough with carrying three children so he did his best to make things easy for her.

“They are healthy,” the doctor looked up with a smile. “A pair and a spare,” he continued with a huge smile. “Twin girls and a boy. I have spared you the medical terms.”

“They are okay?” Kadine asked him, her voice faint.

“Regular heartbeats and everything. You have taken my advice and have been resting I see?”

“Scott insisted.” She looked up at her husband of three months with love in her eyes.

“I would never make it if anything happened to you,” he told her softly as he brought her hand to his lips. They had forgotten about the doctor for a moment until he cleared his throat.

“I am afraid I am going to insist on bed rest for the rest of the period. Do a little walking around in the bedroom and complete rest. We are going to have to do a C-section to get these little ones out.”

Kadine felt the twinge of anxiety again. “I have been reading up on the delivery of triplets. Are they going to be premature?”

“Usually the pregnancy can go up to thirty-seven weeks, but I will be monitoring you. “He looked up at Scott. “I am suggesting a midwife to stay at the farm until your wife is due to deliver.”

  “Who can you recommend?”

“Nurse Whittaker. She is an excellent midwife. I was thinking that she could even be there for a home delivery until I get there.”

Scott’s dark blue eyes lightened at that. “Money is no object. I want the best.” His hand tightened on Kadine’s. How soon can we get her?”

“I will make the call. She was on assignment in New York but she is free now. You will probably have to fly her over.”

“Call her and then get in touch with me.”

“Right,” he smiled at them and left the room. Scott helped her off the bed slowly and carefully. In the past three months her belly had extended making her pace slow and that was something she was not used to. He helped her on with her dress and brushed back her hair which had come undone from the bun she had put on top of her head. No amount of air-conditioning in the sizzling hot weather was enough for her. He had installed two more fans in their suite to get her more co
mfortable and she lived in the pool. Now that she was going to be confined to their suite was going to be difficult. “We will get through it,” he swore to her as he pulled her into his arms.

“I am a black woman who is not supposed to be scared of anything but I am freaking scared,” she told him shakily.

He tilted her chin and looked down at her. “I swear on my life that I will not allow anything to happen to you even it means that we will be without kids.” His hand trembled slightly as he held her. “You mean more to me than anything in the world.”

“Stop talking nonsense Scott,” she rebuked him boxing his hand away. “We are going to have our three children and I will not stand for any negative talks around my kids. Not even from you.”

“Okay ma’am,” his smile was tender as he looked at her.

“Let’s go home and pick out baby names. “I am leaning towards Kandace and Kandra for the girl and Sean Andrew for the boy.” She said as he took her hand.

“I see you have been thinking.” He teased her ridiculously glad that she was not having regrets.

“A lot. I am going to be supervising the decorating of the nursery.”

  “Kadine–”

“I will not be lifting a finger.”

“I sure hope not.” He said with a hint of steel in his tone.

“Bossy,” she said with a pout. He leaned down and kissed it away which had her melting into him.

  *****

Nurse Andrea Whittaker had been in the business for more than twenty years and was delighted when Doctor Whittaker called her about the assignment. She had read about the family in the papers and knew how popular they are. The media recorded everything they did because along with the husband’s success was the fact that his wife was carrying triplets. He flew her himself to the delightful farm and she told him that she loved the wide open space. “It will be good for the children.” She told him as soon as they reached.

“I am counting on that.” He said with a smile as he turned to her. “My wife is very important to me. Any signs of distress and I need you to act on it immediately. I wanted to stop from work and be there with her for the duration but she will not hear of it,” his smile was indulgent as he mentioned her and Andrea’s breath caught at the look on the man’s face. If ever there was a man in love this was certainly it. “I am going to leave my cell numbers with you and if there is anything that you think is not right, please don’t hesitate to call me.”

  “I will,” she said quietly.

“Good,” he got out and came around to open her door. “We are in the middle of decorating the nurseries and there will be people in and out of the place. My cousin Patsy is supervising the entire thing because I have forbidden my wife to lift a finger. Not that she listens to me.”

“I will make sure she does not overtire herself.”

  “Thanks.”

The man was clearly devoted to his wife and over the past weeks she was there, Andrea Whittaker saw signs of it every single day. She would check on Kadine all through the day and keep her company and they would walk to the nurseries and see what was being done. The girls’ rooms were being decorated in pale lavender and pink and the boy’s room was being done in a deep shade of blue. Clothes had started coming in from all the major baby stores including Romano’s along with furniture as well as toys.

“Can you believe this?” Kadine held up a tiny piece of one-piece clothing in a rose pink color. “It’s hard to think that someone can be so tiny.”

“Within a few weeks of breastfeeding they will be growing so fast.” Andrea told her. She rather liked the woman who had no pretenses about her, not to mention her husband. She had been welcomed as part of the family and nothing was hidden from her. She was told firmly to enjoy the pool before the summer ended and advised Scott that Kadine did not have to stay indoors in the lovely weather so they would take walks within the boundaries of the farm and then back inside for her to get some rest.

They were sitting on the back patio with some refreshments between them enjoying the setting sun and the coolness of the weather. It was the end of August and the weather had turned cool much to Kadine’s relief. Scott had taken a quick trip to one of his wellness inns in Texas to sort something out and would not be back until late.

Kadine rolled her eyes as her phone rang again. “Scott darling, you need to stop calling. You have called five times since this afternoon. I am fine; your children are fine.”

“I cannot help it,” he told her huskily. “I miss you.”

“I miss you too, but I am okay. What time will you get here?”

“Around midnight. I am sorry baby it cannot be helped, dammit.” He said with a tinge of exasperation. “I don’t expect you to wait up for me.” His voice sounded a little hopeful.

“I slept for most of the day, so I will wait up. I love you.”

“I love you more,” he whispered. “See you later.”

Her phone rang again right after but it was her sister Karen checking up on her. “How is the baby mama?” she teased.

  “Feeling like a whale.”

“I read in the papers that you are searching for names for the kids.”

“Let them continue to speculate.” Kadine said with a sigh. “I am kind of getting used to the attention.”

“I am sure you are. Where is that gorgeous husband?”

“In Texas and coming home later.”

“Okay sis, talk to you later.”

  *****

The contractions came in October, one month before the date they were supposed to appear. It started in the early morning of Tuesday around two a.m. and had Kadine reaching for her husband. She had gotten much bigger the two months and her feet were so swollen that she could barely move. For the past two weeks she had been in bed and for once did not complain. Scott jumped up the minute she touched him and turned the lamp on. Without saying anything to her, he dialed the nurse’s number and then Doctor Whittingham. “I will call Nurse Whittaker and tell her what to do while I make my way there.”

Scott made sure she was comfortable, looking up in relief as the sensible efficient woman came hurrying in as if she had not been awoken from her sleep.

“You are going to be fine Kadine,” she said with a reassuring smile.

Scott rushed to the bathroom to take a quick shower before helping his wife to take hers. The pains were few and far between and were not uncomfortable yet. Patsy had been apprised of the situation and had gotten up to make some coffee and refreshments along with most of the staff who did not mind doing it for their beloved mistress.

“How are you?” Scott whispered as he plumped up her pillows.

“Just dandy,” she clasped his hand between hers and held on. “You are staying right?”

“Try and get me out,” he told her gently kissing the top of her head. “I told you we are in this thing together.”

“Good,” she took a deep breath. “Leesa and the others said I should call as soon as it starts.”

“I will call Brad and the news will get around.” He assured her.

  “I love you so much.”

“I know and I love you beyond measure.”

  “We are really doing this,”

“We are.” He held her hand tightly in his. “We are going to be fine.”

  *****

Doctor Whittingham came with two other nurses and they busied themselves setting up the large bedroom and turning it into a mini medical center.

He did the examination and realized that the babies were not quite ready to make their appearances yet. Kadine was given the epidural and was told to relax for a little bit before they did the procedure.

Scott waited until he was outside the room before he asked him. “How is she?”

“She is doing very well,” he reassured the man quickly. It was already past noon and lunch had been provided. “It is going to be a little lengthy delivery but the babies are okay so far as is the mother. Why don’t you get something to eat and relax?
You are tense Scott and your wife can pick it up in a minute. I do not want her stressed.”

“I promised her that I would not leave her side.”

“She will understand if you want to get something to eat and refresh yourself.” The doctor pointed out.

Scott heaved a breath and then nodded heading into the direction of the kitchen.

“I prepared a plate for you,” Patsy said, her dark blue eyes scouring his face. He had been up since dawn and looked weary and tensed.

“I am not sure I can eat anything.”

“You need your strength and you also need to show your wife that you are not as worried as you look.” She said wisely.

  “Do I look that bad?”

“Worse. Eat and take a shower and then go back. She is in good hands.”

It was approaching late afternoon before the triplets were delivered. By that time, Scott thought he was going to go out of his mind! The two girls had almost white blonde hair and dark blue eyes and the boy had his mother’s thick dark hair and her dark brown eyes.

Kadine rested back against her husband’s chest as she looked at the nurses tending to the babies. She had not slept in almost twenty-four hours and she was feeling the weariness but nothing compared to seeing the three beautiful children she had just given birth to! The cots would be in one bedroom for the time being and they had chosen Sean Andrew’s room for now. The midwife as well as one of the other nurses would stay on for an additional two weeks to make sure that they were okay. They had exercised their lungs quite at the same time and had created a din that had sent Patsy and the household staff running to stand by the door to catch their first glimpse of the long anticipated babies!

“They are perfect,” Kadine murmured as she snuggled into her husband’s arms. He had barely left her side and had kept his promise of being there for her the entire time. She knew she was going to have to persuade him to get some sleep but she would do so when the place was not so crowded.
