You enter the laboratory. You are startled to see two Mr. Spocks standing there: the Spock from your time, and his own past self. They are working together on a piece of machinery with glowing crystal parts, similar to the one on the Enterprise you left.
“Come quickly, Ensign,” the future-Spock says. “We have only a few minutes while the time field is open.”
You, and your Mr. Spock, stand together in the rays of light from the rainbow crystals. “Good-bye,” says the past-Spock. “It was fascinating to meet you … both of you.”
You fade out in the colored light.

You tell Mr. Spock that you are sorry, but you do not want to do any more time-traveling.
“I understand, Ensign,” he says. “Perhaps we would only have made things worse.”
In the time that follows, you are accepted into the Starfleet of your own past. After many years, you become Captain of a small ship on the Romulan border. Someday, your future self will graduate from the Starfleet Academy. You wonder if Mr. Spock will remember you, and be able to prevent the time accident.
You wonder if history can be changed.
But you may never know for certain.

The transporter light disappears. You are still standing in the Enterprise Transporter room—but standing in front of you are the ship’s officers, and they are smiling. The mirror-crew did not smile.
“Welcome back, Spock,” Captain Kirk says. “I was interested to meet your mirror-self again, but I’m glad to have the real you aboard.”
“Thank you, Captain,” Spock says. “I could not have made it back without the Ensign’s help.”
“In that case,” Kirk says, “I’m very glad to have you back, Ensign. Somebody has to get my officers out of the trouble they get into.”
Mr. Spock smiles. Two others laugh at the Captain’s joke. Soon you are laughing too … and you know that your adventure aboard the Enterprise has only just started.

When you can see again, you are standing in the Science Laboratory of your Enterprise, the pieces of the crystal panel on the floor. Captain Kirk is there, looking at the broken crystal. Then he turns and sees you.
“There you are, Spock,” he says. “Where have you been? I couldn’t find you anywhere on the ship.”
“The Ensign and I were doing an experiment,” Spock says. “But we were on the Enterprise… all the time.”
You and Mr. Spock exchange a secret smile.

“You and Captain April will have many adventures together,” Mr. Spock says. “If I said more … they would not be adventures. Now, I must return to my own time, before I make any changes in history.”
The two Mr. Spocks, past and future, leave the room. Captain April looks at you and smiles.
“Welcome aboard, Ensign,” he says. “Now come on. We’ve got a ship to run.”
