Craving-Torment

Page 17

by Claudy Conn

My parents were dragged out of their home by four demon soldiers and beheaded for treason against their despot leader.

We found their bodies and sank to our knees.

Tessla arrived and grieved with us for an hour before she tried to get us through the portal.

I can still see her face, drawn in sorrow as she said, “I am sorry. I could not stay them. I am now accused of treason as well.” She took Dalia’s hand and dragged her up off the cold ground and hugged her close. “Forgive me, we must go now before they return for us. They are searching for us as we speak.”

She was in demon form, her scales green and iridescent, her eyes violet and bright, and I asked her if she would be able to hide among humans.

  “Yes, now hurry…”

I don’t know how we left our parents lying there…but we did. I had to drag Dalia away, and I suppose the need to protect her governed me.

We three heard them at the door of our home as we jumped into the portal and Tessla hurriedly closed it at the other end.

Tessla stayed with us a week, using her magic to help us fit in, providing clothing, shelter, and the coin of the time…

And then she left. That was two hundred years ago and I still think of her with great clarity. After that, and because Lycans have a great sense of smell, it didn’t take long for others from our realm to find us and settle nearby. We gathered and under my leadership have lived in secrecy and peace among the humans.

The ancient vamps want to change all that. I will never allow that to happen. I won’t stand by and allow the ancient vampires to succeed in their plans for human domination. I made my opinion known.

Even if Ramon had not murdered my sister with his experiment, I still would not have agreed to this contemptable plan. I will always remember my wise father’s teachings.

Of course, I will kill Ramon, but I don’t just want to kill him. I want him to know I am coming for him. I want him tormented at the notion of how long I will keep him alive to suffer what my sister suffered.

He has a deadly warlock at his side. Beyland does not, I believe, care for Ramon, but something keeps him loyal. I shall have to separate the two to get at Ramon. Being immortal means I can bide my time.

What the Warlock Ascot, and the redhead witch, Bobbie Skye, have to do with Ramon I have not yet figured out, but they seem to be innocents in this ugly game. I shall have to watch them closely, and protect her when I can. She has promised to help…will she?

Bobbie Skye intrigues me…stirs me…but we have a war about to explode!
