The winds were howling. The storm had approached as they were fucking, and neither of them noticed. Occasionally the cabin would shake from a gust, and his eyes would flash to hers.

“We’re safe here,” she reinforced. “And we have a backup generator that will go on automatically when the power goes down.

“Rae, about my showing up here?”

“I figured you’d come back when you figured it all out.”

“You expected me to come back?”

“Of course, but I knew I couldn’t ask you to stay. You needed some time to figure out what to do with the rest of your life.”

“What do you think I decided?” Their conversation continued between bites of sandwich and sips of cola.

“Well, since you flew in on your own seaplane, I figured you decided you wanted to hire on as my head pilot. Also, I could use someone with an engineering degree to oversee the bulk heading of the southern side of the island. I wanted to have it done for years, but didn’t because Charlie would take it as a sign I would build his fishery.”

Rae watched Alan’s face go through several emotions, anger first, then confusion, and finally acceptance. “That transparent?”

“I could use a man with a brain to help me on the island, Alan. There will be damage to deal with after the storm. Buildings and cottages and cabins will have to be renovated. Then there’s the additional pier I want to build on the north side to accommodate another plane and several more boats. Hunting is only winter business. I’ll need more boats to keep the fishermen happy. Also, there’s the land near the stables where I want to put up a larger day spa. Maybe more men will bring their women if there’s something else for them to do here. The kitchens will have to be enlarged, as well as the lodge dining room.”

“You’ve had this all planned out?”

“For a while, it just had to happen on my time frame. That’s why Eric moving down here to the mainland was a big help. He can do the accounting, you can oversee the actual building projects, as well as flying guests in and out, and I can still run the lodge.” She gave him a confident smile.

“Had it all planned out?” Alan stared at her.

“In the back of my mind. I just needed to wait for Eric to get sick of Chicago and to find someone to oversee the rest of the building projects.

“What will Charlie say about all this?” Alan asked, taking another bite of his sandwich.

“I’m sure he’ll have plenty to say, which we will all smile and nod about, tell him we’ll consider his options, and then go on with my plan.”

  “And Eric and I?”

“I do like having both your attentions. Can you handle it?”

“If it keeps us together, I’ll deal with it, all of it. You, me, and Eric, and everything else you want done on Breakwater Island.”

“Good. Because I figured you and I could live here in this cottage, and when Eric comes to visit, we won’t be on view to the rest of the guests.”

“Got that all figured out too, do you?”

“Yep, I just needed you to realize you truly wanted to be here, beyond just sex with me and Eric.”

“You are one smart lady.” He smiled and dropped the rest of his sandwich onto his plate. He moved beside her and tugged her to his body. “On occasion, I’ll still need to be the dominant male in our relationship.”

“On occasion, I’ll want you to be. But I had to know if you would let me take charge, too.”

“Lady, you’ve been in charge since the day you climbed into that plane to bring me here the first time.”

Rae gave him a sweet smile and kissed his cheek, leaving a ketchup mark. “I know. Get used to it.”

  “I already have.”

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Louisa became hooked on paperback romance novels as a teen. Before cable TV arrived, babysitting after school was boring. She chose a Harlequin novel and never looked back.

As an adult, she took writing seminars and classes to craft her own skills. She kept journals and notebooks filled with story ideas and bits of dialogue, along with settings and observations.

Finally retired from her full-time job, she ventured to put her notes in order. The end result was Claudia’s Men, her first romance novel with a twist.

She realized her writing stepped beyond normal boundaries and became erotica. Exploring these new directions has been enlightening in many ways. The author looks forward to researching her next ménage novel.
