Sarah Smile (Halos & Horns Page 17

by Lori Leger

“How long have you had that planned?”

“Actually, it just came to me. You always start this conversation, but can’t seem to finish it. I don’t want to leave anything else to chance, Sarah. I want you to be my wife. I want to get the adoption process started for the girls. I want Danni and Sammi growing up with my last name. I want to start our life as a family. And I want it yesterday. You said yes. Several times. And I’m holding you to every one of them.” He threw his head back and gave her his impersonation of her orgasm. “Oh yes! Yess..ss! Yeeessss…”

Sarah punched him playfully in the chest. “That is so not what I sound like!” Their combined laughter rang out in the room as she checked her watch. “Okay, that took all of fifteen minutes. What are we going to do with the next two hours and forty-five minutes?”

He shook his head. “I’m not letting you off the hook. We have to plan a wedding. You said you’d marry me tomorrow.”

She settled back on the pillows. “What are we talking about? You and me at the Lake Coburn courthouse?”

“I don’t care what we do, but I know my mother. If she has too much time with you, she’ll talk you into some elaborate impersonal gathering with three to five hundred people attending. I’m sticking to tomorrow.”

Sarah reached over to grab her smartphone and within minutes had verified that they had everything needed for a quickie wedding. “Do you know a judge who can waive the seventy-two hour waiting period?”

“I do. I, along with the grace of God, removed a tumor from his wife’s brain. I’ll take care of it right now.”

  “And I’ll call Leah.”

By the time they ended their calls, plans for an evening wedding at Red and Tiffany’s ranch were well underway.

Tanner stared at Sarah, anticipating the moment he could call her his wife. “Can they handle something like that on such short notice?”

She raised her hands. “Babe, I had both Tiffany and Leah on the line and their last words were, ‘Don’t worry about a thing on this end.’ Tiff even told me where to go for a dress, so it looks like a trip to the Galleria is in order, anyway. She said to tell you to wear a tux, and that just because it’s a quickie wedding doesn’t mean it can’t be elegant.”

“The Galleria? Today?” He pulled her closer, hoping to get in at least another hour or so of fun before having to leave. Just the thought of it had him rigid again.

Her eyes widened as his hardness brushed against her thigh. “Again?”

“Yep, once more. Then I’ll take you shopping and you can buy any dress you want.” He flipped her over, settling himself between her thighs. “I cannot wait to call you my wife.” He smiled when he pushed into her softness.

Her eyelids drifted shut and she gave a little gasp of pleasure. “I can’t wait to be your wife.”

He stared down at the miracle of a woman whose love gave him such a profound feeling of satisfaction and joy. Seeing her smile warmed him through and through. Seeing her smile because of something he did, made his life worth living. Her eyelids opened slowly before giving him what he craved. That smile.

“What’s wrong?” Her brow furrowed slightly, revealing one tiny little wrinkle of concern.

He reached up to smooth it away. “Nothing is wrong, babe. Now smile for me, Sarah … just smile …”

Thank you for allowing me to share Sarah Smile with you. I hope you enjoyed Sarah and Tanner’s story. I challenged myself with this one, as I did with Green Eyed Temptation. The challenge was to turn an unlikeable bad-boy character into someone admirable and drool-worthy. Whether or not you think I succeeded, I’d sure appreciate your feedback. I count on reviews from readers such as yourself to make improvements to my writing. That being said, please consider leaving me a review with your favorite e-book retailer and/or with Goodreads. Thanks so much.
