On Laughton Moor

In time, Catherine closed her swollen eyes, exhausted but unable to sleep. Her bed was by the window and after a few hours, she saw an orange glow in the night sky – a fire, looked like a big one. She tried to work out where it was, couldn’t, and eventually dozed.
Acknowledgements
This book was a long time in the making, and there are a number of people who helped me along. Huge thanks to Britt Pflüger for her advice and encouragement. Thank you also to my lovely friends Charlotte Sing and Debs Ramsdale, who read the book and took the time and trouble to give me valuable feedback and suggestions, along with lots of encouragement. Janet O’Kane also has been very encouraging and gave me some food for thought after reading one of the drafts.
As always, thank you to the wonderful team at Canelo for everything they do.
Finally, a huge thank you to my wonderful family: Tracy and our son, and Mum and Grandma for all of their support and encouragement, and most of all for their unfailing belief in me. For Grandad too - he is greatly missed.

Thank you for reading. Catherine Bishop and her colleagues will return soon.
