Dedicated to my husband and kids for their love and support. To my dad and my mom for making me who I am today. And the rest of my family for all their support!

  Prologue

  Lexa

I should have asked Dan to walk me to my car. It was dark and the parking lot barely lit. There was a chill in the air and too many shadows. My keys jingled slightly as I walked towards my car. My feet crunched in the gravel driveway. The bar closed an hour ago, and the parking lot was looking a little bare.

My gut clenched, and shivers danced along my spine as I remember that man who wanted to take me back to his room. He was pushy, and the more I refused, the more the anger darkened his eyes. I kept shunning him even after four hours.

He didn’t get it. I wasn’t interested. Not in him, and not anyone else. Tonight, was the first time I laid eyes on him and I sure as fuck hoped to never see him again. My pocket felt heavy weighted down with tips.

A smile crossed my face tonight I was going to splurge on a cheeseburger from Mac’s. It was a college type sports bar and grill that was open twenty-four hours. The burgers were divine and worth every penny. Fresh meat patties are never frozen with the best pickles and sautéed onions.

The thick Applewood bacon was crisp to perfection add in the hand cut fries, and you had a meal for the gods. I could already taste it. Pressing my key into the lock, I sighed as it stuck slightly.

Once again, I cursed my small cheap car. It would be nice to have one of the newer ones, at least in the year that included beepers. It would be infinitely easier to just push a button and here comes the sparkle dust add a poof for effect, and the door was unlocked.

That burger was calling my name. Trying again, it only moved maybe a centimeter. It was mocking me. Giving it a good up and down shake, I hope to dislodge whatever ice particles it decided it needed. Twisting it again I sighed in relief. It was a beautiful sound, the lock popping out of place.

As soon as my door opened, my head slammed into the roof hard. Pain burst like an imploding star behind my now closed lids. I had no idea what just happened, but I knew I fucked up.

I was so focused on the food and all the greasy goodness. Then add my door being a bitch, I failed to watch my surroundings. I let myself be the one thing I never thought I would be again.

The victim. It wasn’t the first time, but I sure as fuck thought I already had my last stab at this karma thing. I did everything right. Went to work, went home and repeat.

I was living the life of a work alcoholic. I thought if I were small and not noticeable Karma would sit on the sideline for a bit before getting bored. Karma and I were old buddies.

I swear there are people in this world born to be the victim. The one person in a crowd of fifty that seems to attract the ugly in the world. It was like we had a sign over our head screaming here I am! I’m the one you want! Pick me, pick me!

I fucking hated that sign. I can’t tell you how many times, some asshole stole my purse, broke into my place, or stole my car. Life wasn’t fair to the best of us lower on the totem pole of less than middle class.

Frankly, I worked my ass off, just, so I can pay for a shitty apartment, crappie cheap food, and piece of shit car. Karma took one look at me and said uh huh, I found the one person I could prove life could get worse. That there was no rock bottom.

Tonight, was no different. I should have seen this coming. Those five words flashed in my mind before the implosion of pain sucked me into the dark. Karma said lights out bitch, so there was nothing but darkness.

  Chapter 1

  Lexa

I had no idea how I go here. That’s a lie, I know exactly how I got here. I turned my back on a snake. I should have seen the wounded pride in his eyes. The metal cuffs dug into my wrists.

He was hurting her again. The woman he collected before me. Lisa, she said her name was Lisa. She went on and on about her little life before she found herself here. She was supposed to be in college out of state.

No one knew she was missing. I tuned her out at first, then she told me about the girl before her. About how she was chained to the wall with her wrists above her head. How he toyed with her.

My ears had perked up, and I found myself leaning further in her direction. This couldn’t be good. The girl before us was named Janie. Janie wanted to be a nurse or a veterinarian or some shit.

When he gave her breaks, she would tell me more. About the girl who was with Janie and the others and so on. There were always two of us when he was close to finishing with one he would find another.

When Lisa finally left me, he would find someone for my place, and I would go in hers. A tear slipped down my cheek cooling as it got farther from my eye. She screamed again as he grunted. I knew what he was doing, and he wanted me to watch.

The sounds of his pleasure followed by her terror and pain, had my heart cracking a little more. I went back into the memories of our little talks. Lisa wanted to be an accountant, I laughed when she told me that.

I couldn’t help it, that job just didn’t seem adventurous. I remember her smile when I said that. She liked life boring, and for a moment we drifted from this place. Then she told me more about Jessica, the girl with Janie.

I guess she wanted to raise her brother in peace and found herself waiting tables at the little diner a few towns south. I was supposed to pass it along with all their stories to the next girl who came.

The one who would be sitting where I was now listening as he reaped my soul slowly from my body. Lisa went silent as he thrust harder into her. Then he was finished, and I was fighting the bile in my throat.

Her eyes looked distant, and I knew he finally broke her. She wasn’t with me anymore, she wasn’t here anymore in this place. His laughter shook her body, and I knew he hadn’t pulled out yet.

I thought he was finished, but he started again, and I let the world blur as my mind closed off. He was killing her, and I was witnessing my own demise. That was going to be me. The bed hit the wall harder, and I cringed.

Remember me, Lexa. Remember us all. One day we will be free, and the world will remember us as well.

It was like she was sitting next to me again. Telling me how it would all end. But I was going to change that. We both agreed he was going to die, but I was going to kill him.

“Hold on there Janie, I’m going to kill him, I promise.”

Tears still leaked from her vacant eyes long after he finished and left. She told me when he finally broke her it would be her end. He would bury her and then it would be my turn.

My time was up, and I knew Janie had held out as long as she could. She was older than me by three years.

I was a late bloomer. I fell in love, and when it fell apart, the school called my name.

I remember her telling me that.

I’ll keep his attention as long as I can. I’ll fight to stay. I want to give you the best chance I can. But the mind is a fickle thing. It can only hold so long before it breaks.

  I was going to die
here. Not today, but soon. No one was looking for me, I had made some poor choices over the years, and my family cut me loose. Something I didn’t truly regret until now.

  Chapter 2

  Sam

  “Fuck Tom!”

Turning I glared at Kevin. The fuck.

“I told you to fucking watch her.”

Rolling my eyes, I continued on my way. He wanted an old lady, and she was his fucking problem.

  “Not my problem.”

He growled and stomped back to his office. Lark left her here two weeks ago, and the fucker was entranced with her. Not my problem, not my woman. She had a wild streak though.

She already dyed her blond hair brown. She said she could finally see herself again. They wanted her blond, so they dyed it. Her native American complexion gave her name standing. Add in her free spirit, and you had Maya. The little tornado. That’s what I liked calling her.

Kevin was getting a run for his money. She didn’t like being told what to do and the moment she found out it was his room she was sleeping in, she flipped a fucking table and started screaming about whores and their coodies.

Kevin ordered a new bed, and it arrived three hours ago. He thought she would be happy, but she wasn’t. I liked her Maya was exactly what Kevin needed. He didn’t realize her problem was with the whore who, two minutes after the bed was in place, wrapped herself around him asking if she can help him break it in.

Kevin, the idiot, stood there and said nothing. He wasn’t even looking at her. Fuck, I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t even know she was there.

I thought she was going to take the chair she was gripping to his head. Honestly, I wasn’t stopping her because it was fucking amusing.

Kevin wanted me to keep an eye on her, so she kept the crazy contained. I could care less if she burned the fucking furniture. Lark was right about one thing. We had no fucking clue what it was like to give two fucks about someone.

  Texas.

The word whispered in my head.

  Chapter 3

  Lexa

He came back and smiled at me as he climbed onto the bed with Lisa. He removed her wrists from the cuffs holding her to the bed and repeated the process with her ankles. Then he was tossing her over his shoulder and disappearing out the door.

I knew that was the last time I would see her. She was off to be with the others. In a forgotten grave deep in the woods. His garden. Anger coursed through me. I’ve survived too much to end up here.

I was lost. Lost in the world of darkness and fear. Crimes and pain. I wasn’t so sure I was going to see that freedom I so badly wanted. Time slipped away, and soon I was drifting.

I dreamt that I was free, and the world had bright purple unicorns and short little leprechauns. I wanted to pretend even there in that rainbow filled haze that I wasn’t tied to a bed. That he wasn’t out hunting for another girl who would soon take my place.

I fucking hated the weakness I felt. The hopelessness wanted to crush me under its heavy weight. Just a few minutes ago I was following the rainbow on the back of my purple unicorn trying to get to the gold at the other end.

But I heard him and a new girl. The girl was going to be a victim and just didn’t know it yet. She was walking into her own demise. I wanted to scream, but I was gagged. The fabric tucked into my mouth and another piece of fabric kept in place.

The knot was pressing into the back of my head, and I had a migraine from the pressure. I wasn’t ready to see her. I knew the moment she walked in that door that it was over for me. I wasn’t so sure I could hold out as long as Janie did.

The door creaked as it opened and fresh tears filled my eyes. I watched in fear as a blond woman entered the building. Her eyes got wide as she focused on me. I watched the change over take her.

I wanted to laugh as her fist connected with his throat. But the sobs kept coming, and I couldn’t stop them. I watched as the man who took so many lives crumpled to the floor. She was going to kill him, but I wanted, no I needed that honor.

She was looming over me before I knew it. Then the gag was gone, and I could breathe again.

  “Name?”

  “Lexa.”

  “Family Lexa?”

“I know what you’re thinking, and I promise not to tell a soul. Truthfully, I want to stay with you.”

She was staring at me like I was a bug pinned under glass. Strangely I was.

  “Please. “

The whispered word was full of all the desperation I felt.

“We have a way to take care of this.”

She was cutting the rope from my wrists as I winced as blood flow started back in my hands. She didn’t say a word as she dragged him to the bed. Quickly grabbing his feet, I watched as she lifted his wrists and I mimicked her by lifting his feet.

My hands hurt, but the feeling was easily ignored when I knew what was coming. I watched as she tied him to the bed. She didn’t pause as she climbed onto his chest and that was the moment he opened his eyes.

Fear shown through those evil eyes. I felt a small amount of satisfaction, but only a small amount.

“Oh, you sick fuck. I’ve been sent to send you to the only place someone like you belongs. Hell.”

When she turned to me, I expected to feel fear. She was terrifyingly beautiful.

  “Want to go first?”

Did I? Oh, fuck yes. I wanted to cut little pieces of him off. I wanted to cut his dick off and watch him choke on it. The look of Janie’s face as she finally let go flashed through my brain and I let the anger take over the fear.

  “We’re going to kill you.”

My voice took on a sweet tone. Almost like I was talking to a wounded animal. He wasn’t wounded not yet, but he would be.

“You’ve been a very bad boy.”

Her voice was cool like they were talking politics and they were on opposing sides.

  “I hate you.”

I screamed the words before I cut into his jeans. Not bothering to undo them. I just started cutting my way through the black slacks.

My fingers ran up his leg like we were lovers when I reached my destination, I looked at him with cold eyes. Then it was, it was in my hand, and the knife was cutting through his flesh.

Blood poured freely as I cut deep. It took forever, even if it only took a couple of seconds. Then it was done, I had removed his cock. His screams were filled with pain as tears spilled down his cheeks.

I watch as she opened the salt and started pouring it over the wound. Looking at him again, I held up his dick like a trophy.

“When you’re finished will you please let me finish him?”

I was waving around his cock like it was a wand. She laughed lightly.

“You did some horrible things. I’m here to punish you.”

Then there was a whip in her hand. She raised it and before the whistle echoed in the air as it dropped onto his chest. Blood welled as his skin split and made a nice slice right across his ribs.

She hit him over and over giving him about twenty lashes on various spots. I watched with a calm I was surprised by.

She leaned over him making sure he could see her face. His eyes were crazed and filled with pain.

“You killed her daughter, and she wanted to make sure you paid for it. I wanted to make sure you suffered for all the women you hurt.”

Then she was looking at me. I just stared back in some sort of detachment.

  “Here you can finish him.”

“This is for the girl before me the one you buried. This is for all the horrible things you did to her. For making me watch and gloating about how I was next.”

Grabbing his cheeks, I pinched them hard and his mouth opened. I raised his dick, even though it grossed me out. I let him see it before forcing it slowly into his mouth. I didn’t let up I just pushed it harder until it was deep in his throat. He was struggling, shaking as he fought for air.

It was a good feeling. I enjoyed watching his face change colors. His face went f
rom red to an odd shade of purplish blue. As he gurgled and slowly stopped struggling. When it was over, I felt nothing but freedom.

I swear I felt their souls. The souls of all those before me leave this place. I set them free just like Janie said someone would.

“We need to get cleaned up. I have clothes for you to change into.”

  “Thank you.”

Then we were moving, and she was helping me. She pushed me into her car and slowly rolled down the dirt road. Less likely to leave tracks. The thought drifted through my mind slowly.

It was a weird thought. But the more I focused on it, the more truth I thought there was to it. I must have been lost in the fog coating my brain because we were sitting in front of an abandoned house.

A house that was falling apart. It was a safe place though. I knew this was where she has been staying. She was changing her clothes. Everything was black, and I knew deep down she was going to cover up what I had done. Once again, she was saving me.

  Chapter 4

  Sam

Kevin was glaring at me, and Maya was smiling. I had no fucking clue what was going on between the two, but I was staying the fuck out of it. They didn’t want to keep me out, but I didn’t give two fucks.

My phone ringing had Kevin glaring harder. It was comical. Pulling it from my pocket, I looked at the screen and every laughable feeling I had vanished. It was Texas.

  “Texas?”

“Sam, I need you to go collect something for me.”

  “What’s wrong?”

“Just keep her safe I don’t need help ok? I’m fine, just go get her I’m sending you the address this is important Sam.”

“Hey, Tom man, what the fuck are you….”

  “Send them to me.”

“This number is compromised. I’ll get in touch when I can.”

  “Texas?”

  “Sam?”

  “Watch yourself.”

  “Talk to you soon.”

The message came through two beats after I demanded them. As soon as the line went dead, I growled in frustration. I hated the thought she was in trouble, but she didn’t want my help.
