There would be time to kiss this boy whom she loved.
She pressed her cheek against his chest, drawing him close. Somewhere behind them, she could hear the hurried footsteps of the others, running towards the deck.
“We’re safe, Alice,” Adrian said to her, lower now. “We’re safe.”
This time, she hoped she could believe him. No: she knew she could. But she didn’t want anything to tear her away from this moment.
There would be time to hope and to be happy. There would be time for everything.
Like a dream, like happiness spelt out in letters, she heard Adrian cry from the top of his lungs, “Land!”
THE END
Dear Reader,
Thank you for sticking around till the very end. I hope you enjoyed my IMPACT series. I already miss the characters. Especially Walscombe, for some reason.
For those who enjoy this sort of thing, here’s a small glimpse into a few of the ideas behind IMPACT: the image of Paul, a worn and tired priest, sitting on an otherworldly throne and wielding the power to destroy the world, was among the very first that came to me. It was, one could say, my compass in writing this tale. I knew that, whatever happened, events would lead there.
Jeremy (another one of my personal favourites), came out of a late-night chat with a friend, as we sipped on a beer, out in the garden. It was fairly late in writing process for Book One, but I found the character so compelling, I simply had to include him. He’s horrible, isn’t he?
Another thing: I’m not quite sure what will be of the party, once they reach the Southern League. I suppose it’s up to you to decide. My suspicion is things work out well, for them. I hope so, in any case.
Before I get back to writing, I’d like to thank my invaluable beta readers, who helped shape these books, with their boundless generosity and willingness to lend a hand. You all, and especially Beth, Kay and Ash, have restored my faith in humanity.
Again, thank you, Dear Reader.
