There are many place names in the Eastern Caribbean which were originally French, but through a number of transitions in the colonial and post-colonial eras, they have been corrupted. The most noticeable change for readers with a grasp of French is the inconsistent application of accent marks. In many cases, especially in those islands which were part of the British colonial empire, the accent marks have been dropped. The spellings in this book reflect local usage in the islands, so they may look strange to those who read French.
