The Extinction Trials

  She smiled. “I know.”

And as the crowd carried her away she saw a head and slim neck appear above the waves.

THEY SURVIVED THE FIRST TIME, BUT NOW THEY HAVE TO GO BACK.

  NEW TERRORS AWAIT…

  JUNE 2018

There’s so much fun in writing about dinosaurs. The whole world seems fascinated by them – everyone seems to love them, even though some were pretty terrifying!

This is a work of fiction, and as such, with some dinosaurs I’ve been quite creative about what we know about them. I know that we don’t “think” pterosaurs would attack people. I know that velociraptors were actually the size of chickens. But this is fiction, and this is my world. So, humans exist at the same time as dinosaurs, and as a result, things might be a little different from what you find in the dinosaur encyclopaedias.

Huge thanks to my agent Sarah Manning from The Bent Agency, who believed in this story and helped me shape it into something submissable. I will always be proud to be her first sale and hope we have many more together!

Also huge thanks to Sarah Stewart at Usborne Publishing who loved this story from the start. I’ll never forget the day she phoned me and spoke to me about Storm and Lincoln as if they were real people, and Piloria and Earthasia as if the continents really existed. To the rest of the lovely team at Usborne, Stephanie King, Stevie Hopwood and Amy Dobson, thank you for helping get The Extinction Trials out there in the world.

I also have to mention my cheerleading team, Heidi Rice, Fiona Loakes, Iona Garrett, Daisy Cummins and Sally Bowden. Although we generally write adult fiction they’ve been hugely supportive of my desire to write YA fiction.

And finally, to my friend Rachael Blair’s son, all the way over in Australia. Thank you, Hamish, for being my first dinosaur fan!
