“You are not about to feel me up while I am bound to this table are you?” Sara asked him as she kept her eyes on his hands. Johnathan sighed.

He shook his head as he suddenly grabbed both of her boobs and squeezed them lightly.

  “AHHHHHHHHHH!” Sara yelled out.

Sam flashed over her and poured the nasty smelling drink down her throat. Sara coughed and choked as she held it to her mouth until she felt that she had poured enough into her. Sara turned her head and spit what she could out.

“What. The. Fuck!” she yelled as she started to struggle harder.

Suddenly she relaxed and then with a sudden burst of energy she arched her back and screamed out some choice words in Latin.

“Oh dear,” Theodore said as he lunged at her.

He grabbed her hands as she freed herself from the binding.

“What the hell?!” Sam yelled as she jumped on Sara, straddling her.

Sara opened her eyes up and hissed at Sam.

“Theodore?” Sam yelled. Theodore looked up to her and shook his head.

“I guess that the new spell cancelled out the binding,” he muttered.

“Ya think?” Sam yelled as Sara knocked her off of her and Sam rolled across the kitchen floor. Sara hit Theodore and stood up on the table. She looked at everyone and shook her head.

“I think that you all die now,” she said with a grin.

“Oh shit,” Johnathan muttered as Sara’s hands started to glow.

She raised her hands up and the light started too static. She shook her head and crinkled her eyebrows. She shook her hands and watched as color flowed off of her, like water returning to a puddle. Kai jumped through the air and grabbed her around the waist and wrestled her to the ground. He held her arms down as Sara took bites at him. He looked at Sam.

“What do I do?!” he yelled at her.

“Here,” Sam said as she crawled over to them and hit Sara in the mouth.

Sara’s head fell to the side and finally the crazy stopped.

Kai sighed and let her arms go. He backed up from her and looked at Johnathan.

  “Dude,” he said.

  Johnathan shook his head.

“It was Sam’s idea, the boob grab. Great plan Sam!” he said.

“What...? It worked, shut up,” Sam said as she pushed herself up.

She stood over Sara and watched her slowly start to move.

Her eyes rolled in her head and she muttered some more Latin.

“She needs to be in a locked room. Help me pick her up.”

Johnathan looked at her and cleared his throat as he pushed himself up grabbing Sara’s arms.

  “Where?” he asked her.

“Let’s put her in a closet,” she said.

“Not a bed?” Johnathan asked her.

“No… we need a small space for her thrash around in, otherwise she could get hurt,” Sam said.

Theodore shook his head “yes” and Johnathan and Sam carried Sara to the hallway closet. Theodore opened the door up and grabbed everything out of it, and threw it in the hallway. He looked up at the shelves and pulled the boxes off the shelves and tossed them out too.

“Okay… put her in,” he said.

Sam and Johnathan carried Sara in and laid her down. Sara sat straight up and bit Johnathan on the arm. He pushed her back from him as he hissed at her.

  “Damn it,” he muttered.

Sam hit her again and Sara fell to the floor. They both backed out and slammed the door shut on her. Sara yelled behind the door and hit it. Johnathan leaned against the door and raised his forearm to inspect the damage.

“I cannot believe that she bit me,” he muttered.

“Here,” Theodore said as he took Johnathan’s arm and inspected it too.

“Oh… could be nasty,” he muttered.

Johnathan looked at him and shook his head.

“I am not going to get all crazy too, right?” he asked him.

“Oh no, Johnathan, I will not grab your boobs,” Theodore said as he grinned.

“I do not have ‘boobs’,” Johnathan said as he winced.

“Sit down. I will have to mix up a little something for you.”

Theodore ran into the kitchen and Johnathan watched him.

He touched his bite with his finger and “oww’d”. Sam looked at him and shook her head.

“Good job with, Sara,” she said as she tapped him on the arm.

“It was gross, but thanks,” Johnathan said as he laid his head back on the couch.

Theodore flashed to him and held his chin as he poured nasty into his mouth. Johnathan sat straight up and gagged on the stinky crap. He wiped his mouth and grabbed his stomach. He swung around to look at Theodore.

  “Not cool,” he muttered.

“You will feel quite awful for a little while, but it is better than the alternative,” Theodore said as he sat down in the chair and placed the cup on the table.

“What alternative?” Johnathan asked as he held his stomach.

“You… wanting to hump on Caine,” Theodore said, like it was nothing.

“Uh huh… no,” Johnathan said as he shook his head at him.

“Yea… Caine was Sara’s master; anyone she bites would naturally be drawn to him.”

“I would never, ever, find a dude attractive, Theodore.” Theodore smiled at him.

“And that, in itself, is a Greek tragedy,” he said, as he winked at him.

Johnathan shook his head and leaned back on the couch.

Sara screamed out in the closet and Johnathan closed his eyes and sighed.

“Where the hell are you, Rue?” he muttered to himself.

Jonah stumbled as he carried Lily. She rested her head against his chest and he had one thought in mind, to get her to safety and healed. The thought of her demise was not an option to him. Without Lily by his side, he couldn’t imagine enduring this life. They had made a pact long ago anyway… if one died, they both did. So now Jonah was facing his own death too.

Lily mumbled something and he stopped and looked at her.

“Put me down, Jonah,” she said to him.

Jonah lowered to the ground and kept her in his arms.

“What is it Lily?” he asked her.

“I am dying, Jonah. I can feel it inside of me like a snake,” she said as she took a breath.

  Jonah shook his head.

“Well, that simply will not do,” he said as he faked a grin.

“Jonah, please just leave me here and run,” she said to him.

Jonah stood back up and lifted her with him.

He adjusted her in his arms and she cried from the pain in her back.

“That ass stabbed me, Jonah,” she said.

Jonah looked down at her and smiled.

“You will be able to repay him, I promise,” he whispered.

Jonah reached the edge of town and looked down at the glowing protection symbols on the ground. He sighed and looked at Lily.

“This is going to sting a little,” he said to her.

He stepped over the glowing symbol and immediately felt a cold wave come over him. He didn’t know how long he would have, both of them really. The protection spell was designed to alert a protector to invasion, but it also poisoned the invader as they pass over it. He would be drained of his energy, as well as Lily.

He pushed on, hoping that someone would come to them. He couldn’t track easily, and he didn’t have time to knock on doors until he found the Volley house. He could see lights, so he knew that he was coming closer to town. He felt another wave of cold energy run through his body and he laughed. To someone who is immortal, and as long as he and Lily had been roaming around, he had never felt death creeping up on him. He had to laugh at the thought of it. He stopped when he started to hear a whisper.

“Did you hear that Lily?” he asked her.

She was now in a deep sleep. He looked down at her and held her closer.

  “Who is that?
 he asked.

He turned as he heard another whisper. He dropped down on one knee as he felt his legs beginning to get numb. Lily rolled out of his arms. He stumbled forward and grabbed her hand. He turned his head towards another whisper. He laughed again and pulled Lily onto his lap.

“Lily, I think that I am hearing death’s call,” he whispered to her.

He looked up at the stars and they started to blur. The sky started to swirl in color.

“Oh, Lily, it is the most beautiful thing. Wake up and look,” he said to her. Lily laid still.

He kissed her hand and continued to watch the sky.

“To be at its mercy is a most curious thing,” he muttered.

He swayed on his knees and continued to watch the stars swirl and twist in the sky.

“Jonah?” a voice called out to him.

“Yes, sweet death, is that you?” Jonah said.

“No, you ass, it’s Kai,” Kai said as he stepped towards them.

Jonah looked at him with blood running from his eyes.

“Oh shit dude, you look like crap!” Kai said as he tilted his head at him.

“Oh! Of course, death would come to me with my last temptation,” Jonah muttered.

“No… I am not ‘death’, Jonah, I am Kai Volley,” Kai said as he leaned in and looked at the both of them.

“Is that your sister Lily?” he asked him.

Jonah looked down at her and pulled her to his lap; he started to rock her and touch her hair.

“Yes… my sister, my lover, my best friend,” Jonah said as he stared at her.

“Oh, okay then, whatever does it for you,” Kai said.

Jonah looked at him and grinned. He slumped to his side and Kai lunged forward.

  “Theodore...? Sam?” he yelled out.

Sam flashed up and stopped as she held her blade out in front of her.

“Oh, what the hell?” she said as she placed her blade on her back and leaned down to Jonah.

Kai looked at her and shook his head.

“He was sitting here talking to himself, something about ‘death calling’ or some crap.”

Theodore flashed up to them all.

  “Oh dear,” he muttered.

He leaned down and touched Jonah’s face and then Lily’s.

“Jonah will survive. I cannot promise the outcome for his sister,” Theodore said.

Sam stood up and shook her head.

“He knew that we had a protection spell. Why would he enter the town?” she asked.

Theodore picked Jonah up and threw him over his shoulder.

“Love and desperation will make you do terrible things, I am afraid,” Theodore looked at Kai.

“Bring Lily, I will do my best to save her,” he said as he flashed away from them.

Kai looked at Sam and shook his head.

“And why are we saving cannibals?” he asked her.

“Because we protect, Kai. Pick her up and bring her to the house. I am going to check the border of the town and make sure that they are the only things that entered, okay?”

Kai scooped Lily up and looked at her.

  “Okay… be careful,” he said.

Sam grinned and flashed from him.

Kai turned and flashed towards home, with Lily slung over his shoulder.

  Chapter Eighteen

  Clowns

I felt the warm sun on my face. I rolled and stretched my arms out as I yawned. Did I really sleep through the night? Oh my god, that is awesome. I didn’t dream; I didn’t nightmare just slept like a normal person would.

I looked over and Josh lay there, all peaceful and still. I wished he was that way, but he isn’t. I brushed his hair from his eyes and he moved a little. He rolled on his back and I sat up and looked around. I blinked my eyes a few times trying to remember when we stumbled into a forest. I stood up and looked down at Josh.

“Hey,” I said. He didn’t move. I looked back down and leaned over him.

I placed my hands on my knees and sucked in my breath.

“JOSH!” I yelled at him. Nothing. I stood up and looked around.

“Oh crap,” I muttered to myself. Something was not right.

I heard a rustling behind me. I turned quickly to barely catch a flash of something. I dropped down and rolled Josh on his side. I pulled one of his blades and stood back up. I gripped it in both hands and turned again as I heard another rustling, and saw a blur of white in between the trees.

“I have a blade!” I yelled out as I steadied my breath. I cannot freak out here… not now.

I looked down at Josh and tilted my head. He started to fade. I dropped down and went to touch his face and it misted under my fingers. My hand fell to the ground. He was gone, just faded from view, right in front of my eyes. I heard a laugh and stood up, with the blade out in front of me.

“I will stab you!” I yelled out to the woods. I don’t even know who I am dealing with.

Maybe I was asleep. I lifted the blade and cut into my arm. It stung.

I hissed at it and whispered, “Wake up, Rue.”

I looked around and nothing changed.

  “Damn it,” I muttered.

A voice called out to me, “So short tempered.”

I turned around and no one was there.

I held the blade out and it started to fade from my hands.

“No… no… NO!” I yelled out as the blade simply disappeared.

“Crap,” I said as I dropped my hands and wiped them on my pants.

“You have no idea what you are, do you?” A voice yelled out to me.

I spun around and saw no one. I sighed.

  “Okay… I’ll bite, although I’m guessing that I am dreaming here… Who am I?” I asked.

I stood there waiting for the big reveal.

“You are the beginning and the end,” I heard the voice call out to me.

“I don’t even know what that means,” I yelled at the sky.

“You know,” I heard right behind me.

I turned and looked at myself standing there. I stepped back, anyone would.

What a freaky thing to see.

My mirror image tilted her head and grinned at me, kind of wicked… in a way.

  “What the crap?” I muttered.

“What the crap,” my image said back to me.

I shook my head and started to tell myself to wake up.

I felt a hand grab mine and I fell backward and looked up at me… staring down at me.

“This is not real,” I said, like I am not going to play this crazy game.

“Really?” My image said as she leaned toward me and pulled a blade from her back.

“So what is the point of this?” I asked her.

She smiled and cut her arm, in the same place I cut mine.

I watched the blood from her arm run black as night. I shook my head at her.

“I’m out of here,” I muttered as I stood up and started to walk.

I stopped when she suddenly appeared in front of me. She smiled and touched her cut. She placed the blood in her mouth. I crinkled my eyebrows at her and turned again. She was right there.

“You cannot run from yourself,” she said to me.

“Well, it looks like you are right,” I said as I stepped back from her.

Her eyes rolled in her head and then they were black as night. I stared at her face as it changed. I knew it was me… but it wasn’t, strange thing to witness. She started to grab at her stomach and cry out. She fell to the ground and a terrible noise came from her, it chilled me to the bone. I turned and started to run. I couldn’t flash for some reason, so I stumbled over tree branches, and pushed through sharp brush that cut at my face and arms. I stopped when I ended up at the edge of a cliff, I looked down at the water churning far below.

“Why do you hate me?” I heard my twin ask me from behind. I turned to look at her.

“I don’t,” I said to her. She shook her head and pointed the blade at me.

  “You
will be the end of everything,” she said to me.

“Me? No, I think that you have me confused with someone else,” I said as I stepped back, right to the edge of the cliff.

“You will kill him, you know that,” she said to me.

I cleared my throat and we both tilted our heads at each other.

  “Who?” I asked her.

“Lord Barrington, he was cursed the first time he touched you,” she said.

I shook my head and looked down at the water far below.

“I would never hurt him… ever, and since when is he ‘Lord Barrington’?” I said as I bit my lip.

I tasted the blood in my mouth and wiped it as it ran down my chin. She stepped towards me.

“You already have. Your very existence has hurt him beyond repair,” she said to me.

“No. I know that I said hurtful things to him, but I didn’t mean it… I didn’t,” I said to her.

She lifted the blade to her throat and held it there, staring at me.

“I will show you what you must do,” she whispered.

She pulled the blade across her throat and fell to her knees in front of me. I gasped as I watched her head fall back and the blood flowed from the cut like a river. I stumbled backward and lost my footing on the edge of the cliff and fell over the side. I screamed as I fell forever… the water coming closer to me every moment. I covered my face as I hit the water hard and sunk under the surface.

“Rue?” I heard in an echo. I started to blink my eyes.

“Rue!” I heard as I felt a shake.

I opened my eyes up and Josh came into focus in front of my face. I blinked a few times and spit water out of my mouth. I tried to sit up and he held me there, looking more concerned than I remember him ever looking. I coughed as I rolled on my side and he hit me on my back. I looked out at a strange body of water.

  “What the hell,” I whispered.

Josh turned me and looked at my face.

“Why the hell did you jump?” he asked me.

“What… jump from where?” I asked him.

He looked up and I followed his stare. I looked up at a cliff and then down at the water.
