“It’s my pleasure.” Toni was as crazy about dogs as she was. Cami loved Toni’s black lab, Tasha, who had such a sweet temperament.

“I hope Peanut isn’t any trouble.”

“Honey, you know how well our dogs get along, and even though Tasha is so much bigger than him, he’s always the boss when he comes to my place.”

When she saw the limo pull up in front of her house and Miguel and Roberto step out, she felt a wave of relief sweep over her. “My bodyguards just arrived.”

When she opened the door, Miguel and Roberto rushed to her, wrapping their arms around her.

“Camille, are you really okay?” Miguel asked. His and Roberto’s faces were filled with concern.

“I’m fine. I promise.” Especially since you’re here now. Just being held by them made her feel safe, protected.

“Would you guys like something to drink before Cami takes you on the tour?” Izzy asked.

  “No thank you,” Miguel answered.

“Nothing for me, either.” Roberto turned to Cami, touching her cheek gently. “Show Miguel and me what happened. We want to see it.”

  She nodded.

“Well, I could certainly use a glass of wine,” Izzy said in a nervous tone. Her friend was clearly more shaken about what they’d found than she wanted to appear. “How about you, Toni?”

  “Definitely.”

As her friends went into the kitchen, Cami took Miguel and Roberto to the bedroom. “This is the dress—or was the dress I wore on our date last night.”

Their nostrils flared with seeming anger. They seemed to understand on a deep level how violated this made her feel.

“Did you leave it out on a chair, sweetheart?” Miguel asked, pulling her in close.

“No. It was hung up with the rest of my nice dresses.”

His eyes narrowed. “That’s strange. Why would the bastard pick that particular dress?”

“I really don’t know. I never thought about it.”

“How did they get in?” Roberto picked up her suitcases, which were sitting by her bed.

“The back door in the kitchen.” She took him and Miguel to it. Izzy and Toni were sipping their wine, attempting to calm their nerves. Cami turned to Miguel and Roberto. “As you can see, the intruder broke the pane and must have reached in to unlock it.”

Roberto sat down her suitcases, and he and Miguel began inspecting the damage.

“I forgot to clean up the glass. Do I have time before I go?”

“I’ll clean it up, Cami,” Toni said. “Don’t worry about it.”

Miguel pointed at the pane without glass. “This needs to be secured.”

“I agree,” Roberto said. “Camille, you wouldn’t happen to have a board lying around, and a hammer and nails?”

“I don’t.” She was grateful at how sweet they were being. It was wonderful having them take care of everything for her. She was used to managing things alone.

“Not a problem. Miguel and I can have Jim, who does all our maintenance at the restaurant, come over and fix this for you, mi amor.”

“Great plan. You three go to the airport,” Izzy said. “Jay and Clay should be here any minute. We’ll wait for your guy and lock up when he’s gone.”

Cami hugged Izzy and Toni, and then picked up Peanut. “Be a good boy for Aunt Toni and Tasha.”

After all the good-byes, she walked out the door with Miguel and Roberto, who were carrying her luggage. Not recognizing their driver, who was holding the door for them, she asked, “Where’s Hank?”

“We requested another driver from the service, sweetheart,” Miguel said. “We didn’t want to upset you again.”

God, they are like no other men I’ve ever known. So kind.

“I can take care of these for you.” The driver, whose nametag identified him as Paul, took her bags from Miguel and Roberto and loaded them into the trunk.

Once again, she sat in the limo between the two of them. “I like Hank. What happened wasn’t his fault. I was just a little taken aback when I first learned his name.”

“We like Hank, too.” Roberto held her hand. “In fact, he’s who we request whenever we need a car.”

Miguel put his arm around her shoulders. “Tell you what, sweetheart, when we get back from Spain, we’ll have him drive us from the airport back to our house.”

  “I’d like that.”

When they arrived at the airport, the driver parked next to the private jet.

“Oh my God, Izzy told me about this plane, but I had no idea it was this big.”

“As big as the president’s inside,” Miguel told her. “Jay and Clay have taken us to some away Dallas Cowboys games on it several times.”

“We always have a blast with them and the Kavanaghs whenever we do,” Roberto said. “That plane has a bedroom, dining room, an office, and more.”

She’d only flown on commercial airplanes, so this was very exciting to her. They got out of the vehicle together.

As Miguel, Roberto, and the driver retrieved their luggage out of the trunk, Alessandra glared at her from the top of the stairs. Is she angry I’m tagging along?

Alessandra walked down the stairs to meet them as the guys stowed their luggage in the storage compartment.

“What is she doing here?” Alessandra asked Miguel and Roberto. “I only made reservations for the three of us.”

“Relax,” Miguel said. “I know you like following your lists, and believe me, Roberto and I appreciate it, but this is important.”

“Of course. If you say so.” The woman was still pissed. Alessandra brought out her iPad. “It’s just that when you throw these kinds of last-minute changes at me, it makes my job more difficult.”

That’s why she glared at me. My being here botches up her plans for the trip.

“You’ll figure it out, Alessandra,” Roberto said. “You always do. And Miguel is right. We really appreciate you.”

Cami realized now why Alessandra’s reaction to seeing her get out of the limo had been so negative. “Having had to coordinate projects myself with my real estate business, I understand how difficult last-minute changes can be. I’m truly sorry about this.”

“It’s no problem at all. I’m sure I can get a room booked for you after we land.” Alessandro turned to Miguel and Roberto. “Why don’t Ms. Anderson and I get settled into our seats?”

“That would be great,” Miguel said. “And we’ll get our luggage secured.”

“Excellent. Ms. Anderson, please follow me.”

  “Please call me ‘Cami.’”

  “Sure.”

As they entered the plane, she was impressed by how plush the interior was. Along one side were three single seats next to windows, and across the aisle from two of them were six, three in each row. Miguel and Roberto had been right. It did seem as big as Air Force One.

“This is your seat, Ms. Anderson…I mean Cami.” The woman pointed to the seat that was in the front of the cabin, all alone.

“Thank you so much, Alessandra. Once again, let me apologize for causing this trouble for you.”

“I’m used to cleaning up messes for Miguel and Roberto.”

“Messes?” Was that what the woman thought of her? She took her seat and buckled herself in. “What do you mean?”

“I’m sure you realize you’re not the first woman the Sanchez brothers have brought around who messed up my schedule.” Alessandra sat down in the seat between two others, across the aisle and back two rows from her. “And you won’t be the last.” The woman’s lips twisted into a smirk for a brief moment, and then her attention returned to her iPad.

Were Miguel and Roberto just players, going from one woman to the next? Am I just a conquest to them, someone who would become another notch on their belts? She thought about what had happened in the limo on the way to her house. Was that just sex to them? She’d felt something. More than sex. But had Miguel and Roberto? Oh God, what am I doing here? I am a mess, especially after those phone
calls and the ripped dress. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her crazy thoughts. Izzy knows Miguel and Roberto. She would have never set me up with them on a date if they were playboys.

She glanced over at Alessandra, who was reading something on her iPad. She’s jealous of me, of the attention Miguel and Roberto are showing me. That’s it. She’s into them.

The woman was treating her like a bitch, not because of the wrinkle in her plans, but because of the green-eyed monster inside her. What Alessandra didn’t realize was her actions had poked the devil inside of Cami.

She looked over her shoulder at Alessandra. Their eyes locked. Cami smiled. You forget, little girl, I am mature and you’re not. You don’t stand a chance. Let the games begin.

Alessandra smiled back and then buried her nose in her iPad once again.

Miguel and Roberto entered the cabin.

“Guys, come sit with me,” Alessandra said, patting the seats beside her. “I want to go over the itinerary with you.”

“That can wait,” Roberto said. “We have a long flight. Cami, why are you sitting in that seat?” He stood next to her and held out his hand. “Come sit with me and Miguel.”

“I’d love to.” She glanced at Alessandra, who was once again glaring at her. Sending her the sweetest smile she could, Cami unbuckled her belt and moved back a row and across the aisle to the empty row of three seats in front of where Alessandra sat alone.

Cami took the middle seat. Roberto moved passed her to the window seat, bending down and brushing his lips against hers. I bet Alessandra is seething right now.

“Hi, sweetheart.” Miguel handed her a glass of wine and then kissed her. “I thought a little wine might help you relax. You’ve been through so much today.”

“Actually, I feel very good. This trip is exactly what I needed.”

“If you’ll excuse me,” Alessandra said abruptly, moving out of her seat to the aisle. “I have a lot of work I need to get finished before we land.” The woman starred at her and it was obvious what was behind her eyes. Daggers.

She addressed Miguel and Roberto. “I need to run several things by the two of you. This is a business trip, not a vacation. I’ll be in the office.” Alessandra marched to the back of the plane.

“What’s with her?” Miguel asked. “I’ve never seen Alessandra act like that before.”

“Me either.” Roberto shrugged. “Beats me.”

“She may just be tired, but sometimes we women have personal issues we have to deal with.”

“Got it,” Roberto said, though he clearly didn’t get it. “It’s one of those female things. Enough said.”

Don’t they understand that Alessandra is just jealous? She grinned. Probably not.

Leaning back in the seat, she sipped her wine.

Zane Kavanagh came out of the cockpit. “We’re all set. Our normal flight attendant, Anne, wasn’t able to make this trip since it was last minute. Therefore, Maddox and I will have to fill in if you need anything.”

“Not necessary,” Roberto said. “We can help ourselves.”

Miguel nodded. “We really appreciate this, buddy.”

“I do, too, Zane,” she said.

He smiled. “It’s our pleasure. Jay and Clay filled us in on your situation. Don’t worry, Cami. Those Gibb brothers will find out who the bastard is that’s calling you and stop them in their tracks.”

He and Maddox were very nice men. She wished Toni could realize that.

“This will be an eleven-hour flight,” Zane said. “We’ll be landing in Madrid three p.m. local time tomorrow, which is eight a.m. Dallas time. Take-off should be in the next ten minutes. Again, if you need anything, just use the intercom.”

Miguel nodded. “We will. Thanks again.”

“That’s what friends are for.” Zane returned to the cockpit.

“Have you ever been to Spain before, Camille?” Roberto asked.

“No. The only time I’ve traveled out of the country was a convention for realtors in Toronto I went to a few years ago.”

“You’re going to love Madrid.” Roberto brought her hand up to his lips.

Miguel took her empty wineglass and kissed her other hand. “We can’t wait to show you the city.”

She never tired of them kissing her hands the way they did. It made her feel special. “Guys, I’m along for the ride. Alessandra was right. This is a business trip. Your time is precious, no doubt, and you want to pick the best locale for your new restaurant. Don’t change your plans on my account. How many properties are you going to tour?”

“Twelve.” Roberto stroked her hair. “And you’re not just along for the ride. We actually could use your expertise on real estate, mi amor.”

“I don’t know anything about how commercial properties are sold in Spain.”

Miguel squeezed her hand. “But you do understand more about where a business needs to set up a new location to get the most customers, don’t you? You’re the one who got that new Italian chain five buildings in Dallas, right?”

“Seven, if you count the two in Oak Cliff.” She grinned. “I’ll help you any way I can. I owe you that much, at least.”

“Sweetheart, you don’t owe us anything,” Roberto said.

The fatigue of the day made her yawn. “Excuse me. I guess the wine did relax me. Thanks, guys. If you don’t mind, I’ll lean my seat back for a little bit and try to sleep.”

“Camille, there is a bedroom on this plane.” Miguel stood, offering his hand to her. “I forgot we haven’t shown you around the plane, but we can do that later. Right now, Roberto and I need to get you into bed so you can get some sleep.

“That sounds fabulous, and that will give you time to work with Alessandra.” She took his hand and left her chair. This is your chance, Alessandra. You better take advantage of it, though it won’t do you any good. She laughed. Cami, you’re being just as immature as she is.

“What’s so funny?” Miguel asked as they entered the bedroom with Roberto.

“Nothing. Just happy.” She crawled into the comfy bed.

Roberto pressed his lips to hers. “I’m happy, too, sweetheart.”

“So am I,” Miguel said, kissing her tenderly. “Sleep well, mi amor.”

  Chapter Fourteen

Miguel kept his arm around Cami as they walked through the hotel lobby to the front desk.

“My God, is every building in Spain this beautiful?”

“Most of them,” he answered. Her excitement was contagious. Seeing Madrid through her eyes renewed his and Roberto’s love for the city.

The manager greeted them in Spanish. “Welcome. Do you have a reservation?”

He answered him, also in Spanish, “Yes, sir. Three rooms for Sanchez Restaurants, Inc. Thank you.”

“I’m sorry, sir, but we only have two suites under that name. A double and a single. I have a message for you. It came in by fax just an hour ago.” The man handed him an envelope on the hotel’s stationary.

Alessandra stepped up. “I told you, guys, that I would have trouble booking Ms. Anderson at our hotel. They were full, so I booked her at the hotel across the street.”

Holding the envelope, he looked at Roberto and saw he felt the same way about this situation. No way were they going to let Cami be far from them. “Alessandra, check with the other hotel to see if they have three rooms.”

“Sir, we have rooms. We are not booked up.”

Alessandra frowned. “You were when I spoke to your representative.”

“Miss, I am not sure who you spoke with, but we haven’t been booked up for over a month. This is not our peak season.”

“Is everything okay?” Cami asked in English.

“Yes, everything is fine.” Alessandra frowned. “I had a plan, guys. Things got messed up. What’s done is done. I don’t see a problem.”

“You’re right. There is not a problem,” Roberto stated, and turned to him. “Miguel, you agree. No problem.”

He knew what his brother w
as getting to. “I completely agree. Alessandra. Since you booked the other room you’ll be staying there.”

  “B–But…I need to—”

“Stop.” He turned to the manager, and once again in Spanish said, “May we have a porter help our associate with her bags to get them to the other hotel?”

“Of course, Mr. Sanchez. My pleasure.”

Alessandra tried to protest more. “We have appointments I’ve set up.”

“Send them to us in e-mail,” Roberto stated flatly. “As I recall, the first one isn’t until the morning, correct?”

  “Yes.”

  “Good. We’ll see you tomorrow.”

“But I booked dinner for us at Doña Cinca.”

Miguel realized that all of Alessandra’s strange behavior recently was about her jealousy for Cami. “You’ve been saying how busy you are. Best for you to get room service tonight and have more time to get your plan back on track.”

“But what about our reservation at Doña Cinca?”

“For three or for four?” he asked.

“Well, for three, but I didn’t know about her.”

“Great, then we’ll take Cami,” Roberto said as the porter walked up next to Alessandra.

“We’ll see you in the morning,” he said.

“Fine.” Alessandra turned to the porter. “Be careful with my luggage.”

As she stormed off, Cami said, “You think you two might have been a little hard on her?”

“No, sweetheart.” Roberto put his arm around Cami and pulled her in close. “Yes, Miguel and I were being quite firm with Alessandra, but she needs to understand we are not going to let her treat you badly. And frankly, Alessandra went over the line today.”

“I agree with him, Cami.” Miguel knew his brother was a man of few words. Even so, whenever Roberto strung sentences together, they always were clear and to the point. “Alessandra needs to be reminded that she’s the employee, not us.”

“We’ve never seen her act this way before,” Roberto said.

“True. Maybe after sleeping on it, she will have a better outlook.”

Cami smiled. “Alessandra is young. Don’t be too hard on her. Who is the message from?”

“Let’s see.” He’d forgotten about the envelope in all the commotion. “It’s from Izzy. Clay and Jay found out that Hank has been in and out of prison for the past twenty years for a variety of convictions—armed robbery, assault, and drug possession.”
