Mom came into the room and stood on the other side of Dad holding his other hand.
“My sweet wife and my gorgeous daughter. I’ll always be with both of you,” Dad said. I looked at mom. She was crying heavily.
“We know if you fight this a bit longer you can beat this,” Mom stated.
“I’ve fought for as long as I could, Alana,” Dad replied.
“Daddy, please fight harder. I don’t want you to go. You need to stay here to see me get married and have kids,” I stated
“I will be there,” Dad answered.
“I love you honey,” Mom said.
“I love you, Riley and Sara too. Where’s Kaden?”
“Waiting in the hall,” Mom told him.
“Tell him to come in,” Dad said.
Mom went and got Kaden, Mom stood beside me as Kaden took my dad’s hand in his. “You listen to me.” Kaden nodded. “Take good care of my ladies, they need you be their rock, their person to cry on, someone to beat up if they need it,” Dad smiled.
“I will sir,” Kaden replied.
“You’re a good guy, Kaden,” Dad closed his eyes.
“Dad!” I kissed his cheek.
“I’m still here.” Dad smiled.
“Good. Stay here,” I grinned.
“I remember when Alana had you. I was so proud and wanted to show you off to let the world know that I have the best baby girl a dad could ask for. You’re still my baby girl.”
I smiled. Mom’s tears had gone away, but I could see the pain in her eyes. My tears had dried up too, but I still felt the pain.
“I’m proud to have you as my father. Even though we didn’t get along most of my life. I still loved you.”
“I love you too; more than anything.”
“You’re my, beautiful wife,” Dad said as he looked at mom. Kaden and I stepped back so mom and Dad could have their moment. Kaden put his arm around my hip and as we watched mom and Dad.
“Yes, my handsome man,” Mom joked.
“Oh, get out of here with that,”’ He played along.
She giggled. “I’m going to miss your jokes.”
“You won’t miss them. I wrote them down for you, Sara and Riley if you will look in the night table it’s there.” Mom looked and found it. She had a huge smile spread across her face and so did Kaden and I.
“Oh, this is just so wonderful!” Mom exclaimed.
“There is more than just jokes in there, open it to about the middle,” Mom did and showed him the page. “That’s it. Read it aloud. It doesn’t really rhyme.”
“My sweet wife
The wind whispers through the air and brings me the smell of your hair.
The sun shines on you like an angel from above.
You made me fall in love with you that night up on the ferries wheel because of the way you looked at me with those beautiful eyes of yours.
Let me always be in your heart,
Let me always kiss your lips,
Let me always be by your side.
I’m proud to be your husband.”
When Mom stopped reading she had tears falling down her cheeks. She hugged Dad and kissed him. “That was beautiful!”
“Gad you like it. Now send Sara over here and turn the page,” Mom did as Dad asked.
While I sat next to Dad, Mom and Kaden stood side by side looking on.
“Now you read this poem. It doesn’t really rhyme either, but I like it,” Dad smiled.
“To my sweet daughter, Sara.
From the moment you were born you were the sunshine of my life.
You are the best daughter any dad could possibly ask for.
I’m sorry about the fights we had.
If I could I would take it back times a million.
I love you sweet daughter of mine.
You will always be my sunshine.
I’m proud to say that I’m your Dad, Sara.
I’m loving you more and more with every passing day.”
When I stopped reading I noticed everyone if the room was crying. “I love you Dad.” I hugged him and kissed his cheek. Mom and Kaden walked over and we all took turns hugging him.
He smiled. “I love you all! I’m glad that you all are here. I wish Riley were here too, but I know she couldn’t take seeing me like this,” Dad said.
“We’re glad to be here too, Dad.” He closed his eyes. “Dad… Dad, open your eyes!” I began to cry harder.” Dad,” I whispered through tears.
Look forward to the events that unfold in book three.
