Daring to Trust

Julia smiled, “I’m fit as a fiddle.”

Just then, her dad walked in and heard her words. He wrapped his arms around her, picking her up off the floor, “That’s great news, baby girl. How’re you feeling?”

Smiling wider, “I feel great. It feels good to be able to say what I want to when I want to.”

Mark groaned, “Yeah. She’s been making that known, too. Obviously, she’s held a lot of grievances against me to herself. That’s all I heard on the way back from Knoxville.”

Julia had undergone an experimental surgery, to see if they could fix her vocal chords. Even if she had been able to talk, she didn’t get released to do so till earlier that day. She had just about lost her mind, not being able to say a word for two whole months! Luckily, she and Mark had taken a sign language course back in high school, so they were still able to communicate, for the most part. Some words were more difficult than others.

Spinning around, she glared at him, “Are you wishing I still couldn’t talk?”

He held up his hands and laughed, “No, no, no. I’m thrilled you got your voice back. I’ve missed you.”

Laughing, Julia hugged him, “Sure you have.”

Mark cleared his throat, and said, “Since we’re here, there’s something I want to say.” When they all gave him their undivided attention, he took Julia’s hands, and looked her in the eye. “Jules, I know I messed up when I walked out years ago, but I hope you’ll let me make that up to you. I want to love you now and forever, to eternity and beyond.” He pulled a small box out of his pocket and knelt down on one knee. Looking back up at her, he opened the box, asking, “Jules, Will you marry me? Again?”

She gasped, and looked at him, “Mark? We’re still married. I still have my ring. Why did you spend your money on another?”

Standing up, he said, “Because I want the rest of our life to start now, and I thought this ring could say it better than I would ever be able to. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you have me?”

Julia glanced at her parents and looked back at Mark. Suddenly, she grinned and threw her arms around his neck, “Of course I will, you silly man! I love you!”

A month later, Ellen was standing in the back, against the wall, watching Julia and Mark dart from guest to guest, talking and laughing. She couldn’t believe Julia married that idiot again. Ellen knew they loved each other, but Mark had left her once. What was stopping him from doing it again? That would never work for her, no way. If a guy walks out once, he better not even think about coming back. Hearing her name being called, she glanced up to see Abby and Jae coming toward her, wearing the same teal bridesmaid dresses. Julia had made her sister-in-law the maid of honor, so she wouldn’t have to choose between the three friends. Just like she did at the first wedding, Ellen thought. Looking at her friends, she asked, “What’s up?”

Abby answered, “Janet told us to come get you. Apparently, they’re about to make Julia throw the bouquet and we’re the only single girls here. Is that depressing or is that depressing?”

Ellen laughed and put her arms around them, walking back to the front of the room. “We’ll get our turn, girls. Eventually.” Even though she was encouraging them, Ellen was cynical. They were thirtytwo years old, after all. Before they knew it, they would be considered old maids. Laughing to herself, she thought, we can always move in together and get a houseful of cats. That’d set the town on its heels!

Standing there, pretending to be interested in the bouquet-throwing festivities, she started inching her way back behind Abby and Jae. One of them could catch it, but not her. Next thing she knew, she saw it flying right over Abby’s right shoulder and it landed right smack dab in her hands. Are you freaking kidding me? she asked herself incredulously. Looking up at the sky, Ellen accused silently, what did I ever do to You to deserve this?

Raised in Overton County, Tennessee, with 2 older sisters, she attended Rickman Elementary School, Kindergarten through the eighth grade. She graduated in 1997 at Livingston Academy, and went straight to work following graduation.   When she's not writing, Trisha enjoys going to church, cooking/baking, cross-stitching, spending time with family & friends, and playing computer games.

Trisha's writing used to consist of poems, until 2005 when she decided to try writing a book. The book, "An Unforgettable Christmas", came out of that endeavor. She put it aside unaware of how to go about getting it published, or bothering with finding an agent. In August of 2011, a friend of hers shared the link about publishing to Kindle, so she decided to try it. Since publishing that one, she's written another "Daring To Trust" which is the first book of a series, "Indigo Girls", based in Tennessee.

Trisha always wanted to write, but she kept putting that dream on the back-burner for "another day". That day finally arrived when she decided it was time to go for it. The genre she writes is mostly romance, with a little suspense thrown in at times.

"I love to read, and my favorite author is Karen Kingsbury. She inspires me every time I pick up one of her books. I have so many ideas about future novels, and I hope people will give my books a chance, since I'm an 'unknown'."

Trisha currently resides in Hilham, Tennessee with her mother Pauline, nephew Samuel, and her Chihuahua Snickers.
