  “Dylan, I...”

I didn’t finish my sentence. I didn’t need to. There was nothing left to do in that moment but let the pull overtake us. As Dylan put his mouth on mine I felt the electricity between us spread and intensify, our bodies hungry to taste each other. He pulled me to him and kissed me deeply, one hand cradling my face and the other hand pushed hard against the small of my back.

And so we kissed. And kissed. And kissed. Then we rolled off the couch and onto the rug in front of the crackling fire and kissed some more. Dylan slowly pulled off my clothes and we lay together, naked, discovering each other’s bodies as the sun began to slowly rise outside. And every touch was like a revelation: his body pushing against me, his warm breath on my neck, his smooth skin rubbing against mine.

We kissed for what felt like an eternity, our limbs wrapped around each other. As we kissed we explored each other’s bodies more, discovering new spots to touch: The paper-thin skin on the inner thigh, the thick cords in the muscles of the shoulders, the warm hollow at the base of the lower back. We were like adventurers sailing out into unchartered waters, every sight and every touch a new experience. We learned the spots on each other’s bodies where the touches felt best, and how those spots liked to be touched. Dylan, I discovered, liked the feel of my fingernails, lightly trailing down his chest and over his ribcage. And I loved the feeling of his mouth against the back of my neck; an excited shiver ran through me each time his lips touched me there.

We took our time. The birds in the trees outside began to chirp as the sun rose, casting a diffused golden light throughout the room. Dylan looked at me, his green eyes flecked with gold.

“It’s like you’re magic, Maya,” he said. “This is magic.” He trailed his thumb over my mouth, then kissed me slowly, running his tongue along my bottom lip. “And this spot right here is pretty fucking magic, too.” He grazed his lips across the side of my neck, up to my earlobe. Goosebumps popped up on my skin. “And this...” He took my nipple between his fingers and rolled it softly. “You know what this is?”

  “Magic?” I whispered.

Dylan nodded, his eyes ablaze with lust. He moved his mouth down my body, peppering me with light kisses, and every touch of his lips felt like a starburst. “Your whole body is magic. It’s magic all the way down,” he whispered, as he continued to kiss my body, moving lower and lower: My neck, my shoulders, the curve of my breasts, my sensitive nipples, my belly, my hips, my thighs. I felt myself melting underneath him.

The sun was fully up, and light streamed through the windows. Normally I’d feel self-conscious, being naked in the daylight, but with Dylan I felt beautiful. He said my body was magic, and I believed it. As he spread my legs and pushed his mouth against my sex, I lost myself in the moment, letting the waves of pleasure flow through me. Again he teased the ecstasy out me, letting it build and build until I came against his mouth, thoroughly and completely, my legs trembling as the feeling rose and burst inside of me.

“Speaking of destruction,” I said, panting. “That destroyed me.”

He looked up from between my legs and smiled his irresistible smile. “I aim to please.”

“Oh, you definitely pleased,” I said. “Now come here. I want to destroy you too.”

“Be my guest,” Dylan said, his voice a low, soft growl.

I straddled his body and kissed every inch of him, running my tongue over his firm, taught muscles. Then I moved lower, taking his cock in my hand. It was beautiful, powerful: Long and thick and straight as an arrow. I circled my finger around the head, feeling the velvety softness of his skin, and he let out a long, deep sigh. Then I slowly leaned down and ran my tongue along the underside of his shaft up to the deep ridge at the base of the head. I heard his breath hitch.

“Please,” he moaned, “put me in your mouth.”

I looked down at Dylan’s beautiful cock, then took a deep breath and wrapped my lips around it. It felt even bigger in my mouth, and I widened my jaw as it slid against my tongue. Dylan’s breath came hard and heavy as I pushed him deeper down my throat, letting him fill up my mouth with his thickness.

His member felt powerful, pulsing against my tongue, and it made me feel powerful too. He’d controlled me, before, with his hands and his mouth: He’d made me squirm and moan and fall apart underneath him. And now I controlled him: I controlled how he groaned and gasped, how his body shook and squirmed. I held this amazing man’s essence in my mouth, and I could feel his power flowing through me.

I sucked Dylan until he began making a series of short gasps, his body tense, his hands squeezing my shoulders hard. I sucked him until I felt the intensity in his body reach its peak and explode, and he moaned with primal passion as he came, his body shuddering. I kept his manhood in my mouth, drawing out the last bits of his pleasure until his body began to relax and his breathing slowed. Then I slid his gorgeous cock out of my mouth and looked up at him. His hairline was damp with sweat, and his face was flushed.

  “Fucking magic,” he sighed.

We pulled a wool blanket around us and laid together on the floor in front of the fire, our limbs intertwined, basking in the afterglow. And I was as happy as I’d ever been in that moment, with Dylan’s naked body wrapped around mine.

  Chapter Eighteen

  Dylan

Maya and I didn’t sleep much, but I woke up a few hours later feeling fucking fantastic. Nothing like an epic blowjob from a beautiful woman, I thought to myself. I looked over at Maya, still soundly asleep in front of the fire, and for a moment I felt guilty about having such a crass thought. An epic blowjob from a beautiful woman. That sounded like the old Dylan, the shithead Dylan who ate girls up and spit them out. But I wasn’t that guy anymore. And Maya wasn’t just any beautiful woman.

I got up quietly so as not to wake Maya and threw on my clothes, still tangled in a pile on the floor. I went to the kitchen and started a pot of coffee, then I cracked some eggs in a bowl and started scrambling them. Yep, Maya definitely wasn’t just any beautiful woman, and the omelet I was about to make was proof of that. I’d never made breakfast for a girl before. I’d never even thought about it. I’d also never taken anyone up to my cabin in Pennsylvania before. It was my place, the place I came to get away from it all. Countless women had passed through the threshold of my penthouse in Manhattan, but not a one had ever set foot inside my cabin. Only Maya.

I threw some bacon in a hot skillet, and the crackling grease made Maya stir and lift her head up. “Are you cooking again?” she called out, her voice scratchy.

“You’re damn right I am. I’m making you breakfast. There’s coffee ready if you want some.”

Maya grabbed her clothes off the floor, then wrapped the wool blanket around her and disappeared into the bathroom for a few minutes. She returned and headed straight for the coffee, then stopped, turned around, and laid a kiss on my cheek. “Thank you,” she said.

“My pleasure. Thanks for coming here with me. And thanks for...”

“The blowjob?” Maya smiled and raised her eyebrows at me, then took a sip of coffee.

“Thanks for everything,” I said. I slid my arm around her waist and kissed her on the side of her neck. “But yeah, that blowjob was... transcendent.”

“Ooh, transcendent? That’s quite a word.” She took a seat on a barstool at the kitchen counter and grabbed a piece of hot bacon off the plate in front of her. “I can’t wait to hear what you say after we have sex.”

  “I can’t wait either,” I said.

Maya batted her big eyelashes and smiled, then took a bite of bacon. I laid a plate with a steaming hot omelet in front of her, and her eyes widened. “You’re spoiling me,” she said.

“That’s the plan.” I sat down on the barstool next to her and dug into my omelet. “So what do you feel like doing today?”

Maya sighed. “I hate to say it, but I think I need to go back to New York pretty soon.”

Damn. I was really hoping for a round two in front of the
fireplace later. But Maya said that she had to work the next day. I thought she was on Christmas break, but she explained that they threw a holiday party for the preschoolers and their parents every year. Apparently she had a list of things she had to do to get ready for the party. We ate our breakfast, then took a quick walk around the property before heading back home in the helicopter.

I called her a car from the heli-pad, and as we waited for the driver to show up I took the opportunity to get in a few more kisses. Yet another first for me: making out in public. I was never the type of guy who was into public displays of affection, but I just couldn’t keep my hands off Maya. And I didn’t care who saw us.

The car I’d called for Maya showed up and I stalled, wanting just a few more minutes with her. “Can we meet later?” I asked. “After you’re done getting ready for the party?”

“I don’t know. I want to, but...” She sighed, then bit that sexy lip of hers. “I’m running on just a few hours of sleep. And I have to wake up early in the morning. It’s probably smart to just stay home tonight, try to get some sleep. If I’m this exhausted around the preschoolers tomorrow, I’ll be miserable.”

“I hate to give up a date night,” I told her. “I’m flying you out for Christmas on Friday, you know.”

“Oh, you silly man.” Maya patted my cheek and looked up at me with her big brown eyes. “Forget about that five date scheme of yours. You’ve got me.”

“I’ve got you, do I?” The diver was still idling the car by the curb. He honked his horn, and I shot him an icy look, then turned back to Maya. “So you’re mine?”

“I’m yours,” she said. “I mean it, Dylan. You always say such nice things to me, and you’re so open and honest, and I know I’ve been reserved and closed off and scared, but I don’t want to be like that anymore. I said that I trusted you, and I meant that.” Maya took a deep breath, and her hands trembled. It meant something to me that she was trying to be vulnerable. I knew it wasn’t easy for her. “You opened up my heart, Dylan. I don’t know how, but you did. And I’m so glad I met you.”

I closed my mouth over hers, pulling her into a deep kiss. Then she got in the car and the driver carried her away to Brooklyn.

I stood on the street corner, rubbing my mouth where Maya’s lips had just been, and I felt a small pang of guilt. She trusted me, and I had lied to her, once. Hopefully she wouldn’t find out – not before I had a chance to explain myself.

  Chapter Nineteen

  Maya

My day was hectic. My co-teacher and I spent all afternoon getting ready for the party for the kids the next day – getting groceries, decorating the classroom, making little gift bags for all the children. By the time I was done I was so exhausted that all I wanted to do was throw on my comfiest pajamas and crawl in bed. But when I walked in the door to my apartment, Tracy was there, anxiously waiting for me.

“I texted you like a million and a half times, Maya. What happened? How was Pennsylvania?” Tracy was desperate to get all the details about my overnight trip with Dylan.

“It was... magical,” I gushed. I thought back to what Dylan had said to me by the fire: It’s like you’re magic, Maya. And Dylan was feeling pretty magic to me too. I told Tracy all about the trip: the helicopter ride, the cabin, the sledding, the snowy winter wonderland, Dylan’s excellent dinner, our amazing conversation.

“So the big question is, did you two hook up or what?” Tracy wiggled her eyebrows at me and smiled. Leave it to my crazy best friend to get straight to the point and ask about sex.

“We didn’t have sex, but we...” I let out a long sigh, remembering. “We just lost ourselves in each other. It’s hard to explain, but it was one of the most intimate nights of my life.”

Tracy shook her head. “Look at you,” she said. She gave me a smile – a strange smile – then just kept staring at me, shaking her head.

“What?” I replied, suddenly feeling weirdly self-conscious.

“Maya, you’re in love. It’s written all over your face.”

I fell back onto the couch and covered my face with a pillow, then lost myself to excited giggles. Tracy had just come right out and said the thing that I’d been scared to say, but once she said it, I knew that it was 100 percent true. I was in love, big time. The feeling washed over me, and I stopped fighting it. I let it hit me and I laughed louder, but I wasn’t laughing out of embarrassment or fear or nervousness. I was laughing out of joy.

I finally managed to compose myself, and I sat up and smoothed down my hair. “It’s true,” I admitted. “I think I’m in love.”

“You don’t know how happy that makes me, Maya.” Tracy hurled herself on the couch next to me and wrapped me up in a big hug. “Seriously, I’m so happy for you. We need to celebrate! Let’s go have a drink somewhere fancy and toast to your newfound love.”

“I can’t, Trace. I’m exhausted, and I’ve got the Christmas party for the kids in the morning.” I loved that Tracy was so excited for me, but really all I wanted to do was get some sleep.

“Fine, fine. We can have a toast here. Give me one second.” Tracy scurried off into the kitchen, and I could hear her slamming cabinets and softly cursing. “I know I’ve got a bottle of something fancy somewhere,” she shouted. “Wait! I found it! No, never mind. That’s vinegar.” She continued to root around in the kitchen, then came back a minute later with two wine glasses filled with fizzy golden liquid.

“I didn’t know we had champagne,” I said, taking the glass and staring down into it.

“We don’t. That’s ginger ale. But I still want to make a toast.” Tracy held her wine glass full of ginger ale up in the air in front of her and I did the same. “To my best friend Maya – educator of children, art lover, excellent salsa dancer, and all around amazing woman. Congratulations on finally finding a man that’s good enough for you.”

“Tracy, this is ridiculous,” I said, but she shushed me with her hand.

“Hush, Maya. I’m practicing my speech for your wedding here. It’ll only take twenty minutes.” My eyes almost popped out of my head, then Tracy snickered. “Just kidding. But seriously, Maya. I know I’m crazy and dramatic, but I mean it. I’m really happy for you. You’re the best person I know, and you deserve all the love in the world. And it’s great to see you so happy.”

We finished our ginger ale and talked a little more about Dylan, then finally my eyes got too droopy to stay awake any longer. I said goodnight to Tracy, then got ready for bed. As I was sliding in between my sheets, I heard my cell phone make a little ding. It was a text from Dylan.

Just wanted to say goodnight, it said.

Goodnight, I texted back. I’m already in bed.

Wish I was there, he replied.

  Me too, I typed back.

Can I see you tomorrow? After the party?

  Of course.

Can’t wait to see you, Maya. Last night was everything.

It was everything and more, I replied. Then I shut off my phone and laid my head down.

But suddenly I wasn’t tired anymore. I couldn’t stop thinking about Dylan. The way his chiseled body had looked in the firelight. His green eyes. His killer smile. The way he’d called me his girl. My mind was swimming with images from the night before, and it was like I literally ached to see his face. It was late, and it would’ve been ridiculous to hop in a cab and show up at his place in the middle of the night – even though I desperately wanted to. No, I decided, that was silly. Instead, I decided to quench my thirst with a quick peek at him.

I fired up my laptop and went to the Society Pages website. I wanted to look at that picture of the two of us again, maybe even print it out to put in my wallet or something, as dorky as that sounded. The front page was now filled with photos from a later event, and I was about to type Dylan’s name in the search box, along with the name Mildred Weatherby, when I saw his unmistakable smile in a photo on the corner of my screen.

I clicked on it, and my heart nearly stopped.

&
nbsp; It was a picture of Dylan, at a gallery opening. He was standing next to a beautiful, statuesque blonde woman. The photo’s caption read, “Dylan Corbett and fiancé Mona Gates.” And the picture had been taken just two days ago.

Two days ago. The day Dylan told me that he had to work on some contract thing at his office. He had met me later that night, after he was done with his supposed work, at Minnie’s Restaurant and Bar. And that night... that night I’d gone back to his penthouse.

It was too much information to take in. I stared at the photo of Dylan on my computer screen and looked into his eyes. His lying eyes. I couldn’t believe it. He had a fiancé. And just two days ago he’d gone out with his fiancé, then met me later and... ugh. I couldn’t even think about it.
