She has been doing that since she could remember—running.

Finn Matthews had been a convenient reason she could use to distract her from the truth. As long as she pined away for him, she didn’t have to look at the mess she’d made of her life. Her work kept her busy afternoons and nights…but the wee hours of the morning until dawn were when she felt lonely most. She’d wake in the twilight, and her heart ached. There was one way only she could calm her fear of what she’d tried to hide from—and it wasn’t Ian.

She had miscarried once, and she was terrified she might experience it again.

  ***

The pangs she had when she was on Ian’s plane were the first sign. She knew she must have conceived with Ian, because she hadn’t felt them after she had been with Finn. Though she and Finn had made love many times.

Her pains were the same after she had slept with Ian and met Finn at the park. They’d felt as sharp as when she had gone to the clinic when she was a teen.

Kristina didn’t want to think about the time again. She was young. She knew she should be able to carry a child now full term. That was why she stopped at a house of a friend her co-worker Jasmine knew. Physician Jaime Lynn was in her 40s, and she had given Kristina such a thorough look she knew she would hear the truth after her exam. The private practice allowed Kristina the privacy she wanted, without the bustle of a hospital, but Kristina had taken an OTC test already…and a visit to the doctor was how she could alleviate her pregnancy fears. Kristina asked the doctor if she could carry a baby to term. The answer shocked and amazed her.

  ***

Ian worried. Kris could get riled up faster than anybody he knew. The news about her pregnant had shifted things between them now. He could see the apprehension about the unknown in his sister’s beautiful green eyes. Ian grabbed Kristina and he held her against his chest. “I’ll be with you, every step along the way.” Ian promised.

Kristina stood in front of Ian and she nodded as she touched her head to his temple.

  “I know.”

She felt her stepbrother slide his hands around her wrists. He brought then to his lips and he kissed her hands. “Tell me what you want me to do.”

“Kris, why are your having pain? Is it the baby, so early? Did Finn Matthews hurt you? I’ll murder him.”

She shook her head. “I broke up with him. Ian, I know the baby is yours.”

Was it the news she was going to give birth, or was it seeing Ian with another sex kitten again? Kristina just didn’t know. She knew only that she wanted to be his only, one. She wanted him to make love to her again like he had when they were flying to Paris.

“A physician I saw said I’m not eating enough.” She didn’t want to say the doctor informed she should stop trying to lose a few inches from her waist.

Kristina held Ian in her arms and she pulled his hands to her fanny. She helped him tuck his fingers between the cotton and her nude skin—and she was happy to feel Ian didn’t need any further encouragement. Ian hooked his thumbs in her jean shorts and he slid them down her large hips. He stared at her honey blonde pussy, taking in her beauty.

“You’re amazing, Kristina.” Ian said softly.

He planted kisses over Kristina’s breasts under her tank top, and he ran his tongue from her nips to her throat. Suddenly, he stopped. She watched Ian hike up her jean shorts, then he lowered her Dukes of Hazzard wife-beater. He refastened his buttons on his shirt and he grabbed his iPad.

Kristina frowned. “What are you doing?”

“You want to know how much of a bastard I really am? Watch this.” Ian made a call from his phone in the study so he could give her stepsister time to see how deeply he wanted her. If she told him to go screw himself, at least he’d know he had put all of heart in her hands. He hoped his gamble would be worth the lifetime wait.

Kristina stared at the images of her and Ian making hot animal love in his jet cabin.

He’d taped her and she didn’t know! She should have been furious with him! She listened to the playback, hearing Ian’s soft pleas for her to let him come, and felt all her inhibitions start to fade.

Kristina realized she was the only woman Ian wanted; the heat of their passion ebbed away every doubt she’d worried about—she no longer cared they were brother and sister. She knew they were destined to be.

Kristina decided she’d make sure she and Ian stayed that way.

Ian glanced from the iPad to Kristina. “Do you want me to take you somewhere?”

So he thought they were over, did he?

Kristina looked at her brother Ian. Kristina decided she had a few needs of her own. She wanted met too.

“Mm-hm, Ian. I do.” Kristina tapped a web address on the iPad.

Then she showed a destination to Ian.

  “Let’s go, here.”

Ian’s smile lit up her heart like it brightened the entire room.

  Epilogue

Kristina came out from a corner glace vendor under a red and white awning. She licked the crème from the paper cone she had, trying to keep it from spilling down her fingers.

She dodged a couple of kids chasing a runaway balloon then she slipped and she bumped into Ian.

“Um, excuse me,” Kristina smiled, licking her cone.

Ian turned and leaned on the wall towering above the Seine, grinning. “By all means, have another.”

“Have a taste of mine, sweetheart.” Ian bit a chunk of his glace and then he traded cones with Kristina.

Kristina heard the affectation, and she gazed at Ian. “Did you call me, ‘sweetheart’?

A drop of Ian’s cherry glace ran down Kristina’s arm and Ian bent to lick it. She stuck the cone on Ian’s nose and he yelped. “That’s what you get for calling me sweetheart.”

“Oh?” Ian dragged Kristina into his arms.

His dark tan brushed against her skin hotly, reminding her of the last seven nights they’d spent together in his villa in Bordeaux. Ian had been quite the attentive lover, giving her more than her share or oral affection. She’d come more times than when he had seduced her on his jet plane. Something she planned to coax Ian into doing again—when she had the chance. At the moment, she was preoccupied by slurping glace of Ian’s nose.

“Hey—.” Ian swatted Kristina away. “Is this any way to treat your baby daddy?”

  ‘Baby daddy’? Kristina repeated.

Kristina handed Ian his cherry glace and took a bite from her chocolate one he held in his other hand. Ian smiled when she pecked his the cheek. She spied another dribble on crème on the ground.

She stared. She couldn’t see her feet!

“Ian, I’m getting round as a house—.” Kristina pouted.

“I like your ‘house’.” Ian replied, wrapping his tanned arms around Kristina’s shoulders. “Inside it is a precious treasure,” Ian kissed his way down Kristina’s shoulders.

“You mean you’re responsible for this?” Kristina turned and she put her hands on her very round belly that started to protrude for the world to see.

Ian smiled. “You were a great help.” Ian winked and Kristina laughed.

A drop of chocolate crème ran across Kristina’s third finger. She held her hand in the sunlight along the Seine watching the rays make the diamond flame brightly.

Ian held Kristina tighter. “Why don’t you set a date already and make me an honest man?” Kristina gazed up at Ian seeing him frown.

“You don’t like being my fiancé?” She smiled coquettishly.

“I want to be with you. Set a date already.” Ian tossed the two glaces to the ground and he got on bended knee.

Passersby gasped, seeing him reach into his pocket, and hold out a blue, velvet box. Kristina teared. “How did you know we’re having a boy,” she asked.

  “Call it baby daddy’s intuition.”

She knew Ian talked with Jasmine, her liaison at Syren. She probably let it slip she was going to big a cow before she had another birthday. The PR she was doing for Bree
and for an artist had taken her to London where she’d stayed until Ian could join her. Then he taken her for a sail on a private gondola in Paris—and he’d given her a ring to keep safe for their little boy and their little girl.

“You already have a ring honoring our soon-to-be born daughter, Ian said quietly. “Open the box.”

Inside the velvet square was a second diamond ring. Kristina fought back the waterworks while Ian slid the platinum band next to the first band she wore. Parisians and onlookers applauded, and Kristina shook her head, happy.

“When did you know we were going to have babies?” Kristina said as Ian wrapped his arms back around her.

“Krissy, really? You got twice as big in a month as most women get in their first trimester.”

Kristina frowned. “Oh, and suddenly you’re the King of trimesters?”

Ian smiled. “I’m the wealthiest man in the world.”

Ian drew Kristina into his arms, his sweater pulling on her sundress and it made her nipples peak. The pleasure from the friction of their bodies gave Kristina a thrill as she slipped her tongue between her stepbrother’s lips. “You taste like cherry.”

She wasn’t alone like she had worried. No, Kristina was home where she had always been, right here, in France, and with the man she loved.

“I, love you,” Ian said, bending Kristina as he gave her a kiss.

“Ian? There’s something I need to tell you—.”

When Ian stilled, Kristina whispered. “We’re going to need another ring.”

  Ian stared. “Another one?”

“Ian,” Kristina smiled bright, we’re having triplets!”

The look she saw flickering across Ian’s face…

  A treasure for their lifetime.

…The young woman could feel his eyes on her almost the whole time. He was looking at her intensely; listening to everything she was saying and following all her movements. It was unnerving!

At one point, she went to take something from the fridge and Ross followed her to the kitchen. Emma heard him walking into the big room and turned to meet him, “Do you need something?” She asked politely.

Ross did not answer. He came close to her and successfully trapped her between the kitchen counter and the fridge. “Yes,” he said softly. “I want something.”

He used his height to bend over her and take something from the counter. Emma could not see what it was, but she could feel the heat emanating from his body, the smell of expensive perfume and of something that must be simply him. It seemed like ages to her, but finally, Ross moved a step away from her, leaving her enough space to breathe.

The sexual tension between them was tangible and Emma had real difficulty to talk or even breathe at the moment. Ross watched her with a small smile on his lips and before turning around, bent down and pressed them to hers.

A jolt of electricity passed through Emma’s body at the contact, but before she could say or do something, Ross disappeared from the kitchen….

Ian wrapped his bronzed arms around Kristina and he shattered soul her with a soul-burning kiss.

When Ian let Kristina come up for air, he waited for her reaction.

Kristina stared at him and her eyes watered. Ian couldn’t believe Kristina was close to tears.

“You still don’t understand. You’re a billionaire? Fine. What we shared Ian? Ian, it can never be.”

Kristina turned away silently vowing she would never see her stepbrother.

“You’re wrong. Run as hard as you can, Kristina Layne,” Kristina heard Ian say as she ran into the spa,” but you will be mine.”

Kristina reminded herself to ask for a room card from the concierge at the spa. She would go back to Georgia, get on with her life, and forget about Ian. It was the way things had to be.

“Keep running,” challenged Ian. “Before we’re through, you will beg me to make you mine.”

“When that day comes, you’ll take my name as Hastings-Knight and we’ll be together,” Kristina heard Ian say as she ran through spa.

“Fate joined us,” Ian whispered low. “Know this, Kristina Layne-Knight, you will be mine,” promised Ian.
