Renounced: The Shelean Moon, Book Two
Page 16
She realized her dad and the rest of the room waited for an answer.
“No, I’m sorry, I haven’t. You said I had ’til Shalea, and that’s still more than two weeks away.”
“Will you have a decision then?”
She thought about it. “I doubt it unless I get to see a bit more of life from the human side.”
Her dad was very definitely in Patriarch mode now. He dipped his head and lifted his hand up before he touched the table.
“In that case, I pronounce you stay in Cadal for three moons. Then, you will come to us and give us your decision. Until then, you will have no Shalean powers. Your contact for all things that regard Shalea will be with Troy Conlan and no one else. He will help you and guide you through Cadal. Do you agree?”
Leira took a deep breath. This was it. “I agree.” There wasn’t anything else she could do. She was sure to need guidance on some things and maybe to get it from someone impartial like Troy would help her to understand better what she was doing.
“Session ended. Our gods and us. Elders, we reconvene tomorrow at nine. I bid you all good night and a safe journey.” Leira watched as one by one they all filed out until only her and her friends were left.
Rach gave her a cuddle and then ushered Brios and Andy outside. Troy and Ali followed until it was only her and Donny left in the big, candlelit room.
She watched and waited as he circled the room to blow out the candles one by one until only the ones on either side of the door remained lit. Slowly, he made his way to her side and touched her cheek. The look on his face made her want to cry. He looked bereft.
“Whatever anyone says, Lei, I’ll always be here for you—wherever and whenever. You see…I love you. Oh, and while we’re here…what do you want to do when you leave school?”
There was silence by the stone. No wind ruffled the grasses surrounding it, and no rain marred its surface.
Words echoed in the air. Their message flowed outwards into the distance.
Have faith, Donald Farriday, you are one of those who need not repent. Have faith…I, Armin, do thus declare…you are true.
About the Author
Jo lives in the very part of Scotland where she sets most of her books. An avid reader, with an imagination her teachers said was much too inventive and, whimsical, there is nothing more she likes than to weave stories about whatever her mind decides. Her long-suffering husband is used to taking half burnt offerings out of the Aga, and ignoring the dust bunnies. No wonder so many of her heroes remind her of him.
