And though she would meet many attractive men in her life, there would never be another moment like the one when she’d first seen Mr. Anderson.

She’d kept a sharp eye out for him the rest of the year and most of the next. Sometimes she caught a glimpse of him in the hall between classes, but he seemed to studiously avoid her gaze.

By the time senior year was almost over, she had finally stopped obsessing about him long enough to get interested in college and life after Tarker's Hollow.

Until stupid Zach stupid Greenfield had almost made her cry.

And then there he was, out of nowhere, one hand on her shoulder, leaning in close enough for her to feel the warmth radiating from him.

“You are perfection, Bianca Silver,” Mr. Anderson had whispered into her hair. “Exactly. As. You. Are.”

Then the weight of his hand was gone and he disappeared into the stacks.

Bianca had stayed at the table for another twenty minutes, memorizing the feel of his breath in her hair, the warmth where his hand had touched her, and the faint, woodsy scent of him still clinging to her thin t-shirt.

The next day, a long-term sub had come to take his place, and he hadn’t come back for the rest of the year.

Bianca had finished high school in a stupor, and then gone off to college wondering if she had actually gone crazy. He was just a teacher, comforting a bullied kid. She was being ridiculous.

She had vowed to get over her silly crush.

But some things were easier said than done.

  Ian

Ian Anderson shifted out of his wolf and into his human form. He did it quickly and without ceremony, afraid that if he took his time he would lose his nerve.

After all, this was Bianca Silver - the young woman who had stolen his heart.

He’d known it from the moment he’d seen her on his first day at Tarker's Hollow High School. He’d stared at her, mesmerized, and she had blinked back at him with eyes as green as the forest and parted lips as pink as the sun at dawn.

She was ten years younger than he was, and still in the bloom of innocence. He would have died rather than touch her.

But he knew to his bones that this was his mate.

And she knew it too, he could tell by the way her eyes searched the halls for him in the days and months that followed, no matter how he distanced himself. He could tell by the perfect way she’d held herself erect when he’d whispered into her hair that afternoon so long ago, when he hadn’t been able to bottle up his love for her.

These last ten years he had waited patiently, knowing that their time would come, when she was ready.

He’d wished to learn about her hopes and dreams, and share her secrets over nice dinners and romantic walks before taking her and marking her with his bite.

But, damn it, she’d turned up in the woods during the full moon. What was she doing out here?

It occurred to him suddenly that she must have learned his secret.

She must have known this was the way to show him she accepted it.

Even if he managed to resist her, there was no way he was risking another wolf finding and claiming her. The moon played havoc with a wolf’s libido. Anything could happen out here tonight.

No. There would be time for wine and roses later.

There would be the rest of their lives.

Tonight, they would release the pent-up need of ten years’ worth of longing.
