I turned to continue walking, but Nate didn’t let me go. In fact, he stepped a bit closer to me. I could feel butterflies flit through my stomach.

His fingers brushed a lock of hair behind my ear. “You know, you’re really pretty.”

I stopped breathing. What was happening here? I felt myself leaning in to him, almost drawn to him magnetically. We moved together and we were kissing before I even knew what happened.

The kiss started slow, but soon his tongue was working its way into my mouth. My head was swirling. All I could think of was: Holy shit! I’m being kissed. I’m actually making out with Nate.

Nate pulled me even tighter against him and I could feel his body crushed up against my own. I felt his erection pressed hard against my belly. It was exciting, yet I was only thinking about how Millie and I would squeal about it after the party. How drunk was I? To be thinking about Millie when I was being kissed by a hot guy…

“Nate.” The male voice sounded pissed.

Nate’s lips pulled from my own. Dusty was standing next to us. The sight of Dusty at that very moment had the same effect as having a bucket of cold water dumped over my head. This wasn’t exactly how I had imagined running into Dusty again.

“Hey, Dusty. What’s up man?” Nate sounded annoyed, although he tried to hide it.

Dusty was staring at me. He looked angry. “I came over to say hi to Jane.”

Nate grabbed my hand and tried to pull me toward the house, but I didn’t move; I was rooted to the spot. “She was just heading to the bathroom.”

Dusty’s jaw clenched. “I’ll show her where it is. I want to talk to her anyway.”

They were talking about me like I wasn’t even there. Although, my ability to speak did seem to have momentarily escaped me.

“Give us a minute, Nate.” Dusty practically ordered it.

Nate scowled, but dropped my hand. He turned to me. “Jane, I’ll be back at the game when you’re finished.”

I nodded to him as he left. Why did I feel so guilty getting caught kissing Nate? And why did Dusty seem so angry about it?

Dusty and I started walking toward the house. “I’m glad you decided to come.”

My tongue managed to finally work again. Unfortunately, the beer had loosened it somewhat. “What was that all about? You look pissed.”

My words seemed to take Dusty aback somewhat, like he hadn’t expected me to mention it. “I’m not pissed. But wouldn’t Johnnie be pissed if he saw that little display of yours?”

Johnnie? I couldn’t help the sarcasm that oozed out with my reply. “Who are you, my father?”

Dusty’s eyes narrowed. “Nate’s an ass. Stay away from him.”

“And you’re not an ass?” Jeez, why was I being so difficult?

Dusty swept a hand through his hair. “Jane, I’m just looking out for you. I know you don’t hold your liquor well.”

I flinched and stopped in my tracks. I heard my words softly slurring even as I tried to deny that I was drunk. “That was one time, Dusty. And you’re the one who took advantage of me. Remember?”

“Oh no.” Dusty shook his head. “Let’s not rewrite history here. You were the one who climbed all over me.”

The beauty of being drunk was that I wasn’t utterly embarrassed by his words. Even though in some remote corner of my brain, I knew I should be.

“No, I wouldn’t do that!” My denial didn’t sound very convincing, especially since I never could remember what exactly happened that night.

Dusty took a step closer to me until our bodies were almost touching. His voice lowered. “In fact, Jane, you were touching me. And kissing me. And begging me for more. And all your moaning and groaning told me you liked it.”

My heart was pounding hard in my chest, yet it felt like I wasn’t getting any oxygen to my brain. I felt dizzy. My knees were rubbery.

I grabbed onto his forearms for support even as I denied his words. “No. No. That’s not what happened.”

“Yes, Jane.” His gaze was searing. His voice was a whispered promise. “You climbed into my bed. Your hands were all over my body. Touching me everywhere.”

His arm had snaked around my waist and he pulled me in so tight against his body. The air around us practically sizzled with intensity. The nearness, the feel of his body, had me absolutely aching for his touch. I stood frozen in his embrace, not knowing what to do, but captured by his knowing gaze while he waited for my answer. Had he even asked a question?

I knew I should defend myself. Deny what he was saying. But all I could feel was that intense burning of lust centered right between my legs and tingling throughout my body. I wanted Dusty with a fierceness. I always had.

Aunt Bettie’s favorite saying was that when life handed you lemons, you made lemonade. I certainly knew a thing or two about getting lemons. In fact, I was more than a bit used to getting handed lemons by now. But, on very rare occasions, life handed you the glass of lemonade pre-mixed and pre-sweetened. All you had to do was just drink it down. So why was I just standing there looking at it? Start drinking, girl. Take a sip.

My arms wrapped around Dusty’s shoulders. Our eyes connected for a scorching moment before we kissed. I think I gave it all away in that moment. My aching need. My desire. My complete infatuation for him. It couldn’t be helped.

We were like two live wires, that when finally united, sparked into an uncontrolled combustible explosion. Dusty’s kiss transcended normal kisses. It swept me out of my narrow world and into an almost spiritual experience, yet its affects were quite down to earth and completely toe-curling.

While our tongues danced against each other’s, my body melted completely into his and trembled with a passionate reaction to his nearness. Every part of me tingled with awareness. Shivers ran through my body as his hands swept down the skin of my bare arms. One of his hands tangled in my hair and the other settled on my ass, trapping me against the hard cock that I could feel through the fabric of his shorts.

His lips were fiercely demanding; his tongue was deliciously probing. I was lost in that kiss, my body automatically reacting to his every touch, every nerve in my body firing with uncontained desire.

I was so aroused that it was crazy. I had never felt anything like it before. My pussy was aching with need and my panties were soaked with the evidence of it. It was all I could do not to maul him right then and there.

Dusty broke our kiss and I was surprised to find that my hands had wandered beneath his shirt. I stopped their exploring, but I didn’t retreat. The feel of his smooth muscles under my hands made me crazy to feel more of him. I wanted so much more.

He was watching me so intensely; it almost made me forget to breathe. At that very moment, I had no doubt in my mind. I wanted to give myself to Dusty Hamilton. I wanted him to take me. I would worry about the consequences some other time.

  “Dusty, I want- ”

Our moment was shattered. “Michelle is looking for you.”

Chad was standing right next to us. His voice got more urgent. “Dude, she’s looking for you. Your girlfriend is on her way over here right now.”

His girlfriend? I stiffened in Dusty’s arms. What the hell?

I couldn’t hide the shock or hurt that washed over my face. And Dusty certainly couldn’t hide the guilt that washed over his. “Jane, I…”

I took a step backward and Dusty let me go. The sudden loss of his support made me stumble and almost fall flat onto my ass. I barely righted myself when Dusty’s girlfriend, Michelle, walked over to us. Her smile of smug superiority reminded me of Dusty’s high school girlfriend, Glenna.

“Dusty, where have you been hiding?” The cheerfulness in her voice sounded fake.

I wasn’t sure if she’d seen me with Dusty, but I saw her look me over, sizing me up. And her eyes focused like laser beams right onto my chest. I knew my nipples were hardened and protruding from the thin fabric of my top. I wasn’t wearing a bra, I had just been extremely aroused and I knew my headlights
were showing. Unfortunately, I was standing in a pool of light cast from a floodlight mounted on the back of the house.

Oh yes, Michelle had noticed. Her eyes narrowed even though she was still smiling. “I don’t think we’ve met before.”

Dusty glanced at me. And he noticed my nipples, too. Jesus, could this get any worse?

“I’m Jane.” I decided to keep it simple.

“Oh. Huh.” Michelle shrugged me off. Then she turned to Dusty like she had forgotten I was there already. “I need to tell you a secret…” She leaned all over him to whisper in his ear.

I felt nauseous watching the display. I turned and walked to the back door of the house as fast as my legs would take me without risking a humiliating tumble. I entered the house and stumbled around until I found the bathroom.

I was drunk, so I was really close to breaking down into tears. It took me several minutes to compose myself. Hold it all in, Jane. When I was ready, I gathered my strength and headed back outside.

I headed toward the bonfire, not even looking in the direction that I knew Michelle was practically dry humping Dusty in.

On my way down the yard, I got stopped by a nerdy looking guy. “Hey, you wanna shot?”

  “Hell, yeah.”

I picked up the shot glass from his plastic tray and downed the liquid in one motion. I returned the glass and resumed my walk toward the bonfire.

  Chapter 8

  Dustin

The night had turned into a fucking disaster. First, I had to leave my own party to go pick up Michelle. Instead of waiting a couple of hours until the party started, she decided she needed to go out. So she left my house and then got stuck at her friend’s house with no ride. I tried, but I couldn’t get out of picking her up. I had to drive thirty minutes to get to her and then thirty back again. Luckily, I had only just started drinking before she called.

After we got back, Michelle pretty much ignored me. Unless she needed a new beer. For some reason, she couldn’t get her own damn beer. She had to come find me whenever she needed a new one.

I made the rounds of the party and that’s when I saw Jane. She had come over after all and she looked unbelievably hot. My excitement at finding her was short-lived, however. Man, was I pissed when I saw Nate’s hands all over her. I felt like stomping over there and pulling her away from him. Nate was a good enough guy and all, but why the fuck was he touching Jane?

It was when I saw them break away from the drinking game that I made my move. I had just gotten Michelle a new beer, so I knew she’d be ignoring me for probably the next hour or so. I desperately wanted to talk to Jane and now was the opportunity.

I was practically in a rage when I saw Nate kiss Jane. All I could think was to get him away from her. When I finally got rid of Nate, things got hot between us right away. Blazing hot, in fact, and it wasn’t just me. Jane seemed similarly affected. There was something about Jane that just drove me wild. I had never felt that before with anyone. It seemed out of my control and that left me as confused as I was horny.

There was a moment before Chad showed up when I saw the look on her face. That expression was seared into my memory. I knew in that moment that I wanted Jane Brown. Not just to fuck her for one night, but for something more. It was confusing, but I definitely needed something more from her.

That moment of clarity turned to shit when Michelle interrupted. I couldn’t escape the look of pain and betrayal on Jane’s face when she realized I had a girlfriend, but I thought I could make her understand. I would drop Michelle in a heartbeat for Jane. I was sure I could convince her of that.

Michelle must have known what was going on. She may not have seen Jane and I together, but she saw us looking guilty. She knew that my dick was hard for another woman when she pressed up against me. I was sure she was about to explode. I braced myself waiting for the dramatics to unfold, hoping that she would just cut me free right then and there.

I’ll never understand women. Michelle wasn’t that into me anymore, but instead of dumping me on my ass, she staked her claim. It was the last thing I had expected. Jane ran off horrified, straight back to Nate, and I didn’t blame her.

Instead of chasing after Jane, I continued drinking while Michelle attached herself to me. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I took my confusion and anger out on Michelle.

I fucked her that night. I was pretty drunk. Michelle encouraged it and I was too emotionally twisted to hold back. I hadn’t been laid in weeks and before I knew it, Michelle was sucking me off. There was no resistance on my part. I told myself that there was nothing wrong with having sex with your own girlfriend, even if I was imagining that I was actually fucking Jane the whole time.

I ignored the hurt look I imagined on Jane’s face as I fucked Michelle. Why did I feel so wrong doing it? It not cheating to fuck your own girlfriend.

I wasn’t gentle. There was no finesse involved. I flipped her over and plowed into her doggy style. Then I pushed her head down into the pillow and rode her hard. I didn’t want to see her face. I didn’t want to hear her reaction. It wasn’t exactly a tender loving moment.

The next morning, I felt a moment of guilt, but then I pushed it away. I didn’t want to think about it. I slid out of the bed without waking Michelle and escaped to the shower.

One thing was clear in my head. I needed to break up with Michelle. It had nothing to do with Jane really. She had just made me realize the truth. I wasn’t going to dump Michelle the morning after I fucked the brains out of her though. I had a little bit of class left.

I headed downstairs. Ace was scarfing down some scrambled eggs on the couch in front of the TV. Chad was draped across an armchair. He looked like he had just woken up. I was glad Nate wasn’t around. I wasn’t ready to run into him yet.

Chad looked up. “Dusty, you’re alive. Where did you disappear to last night?”

I sat down on the couch next to Ace. I didn’t really want to talk about myself. “What did I miss?”

Chad laughed. “Ace was chasing after that Molly chick. You know, the one that’s friends with Jane.”

Ace spoke with his mouth full. “Yeah, did you know those two went to our high school?”

I tried to keep my expression neutral. “Yeah. Her name is Millie, by the way. You might have a better chance with her if you get her name right.”

Chad sat up and spoke to Ace. “Yeah, that’s right, it’s Millie. And dude, Jane is that girl that Dusty hooked up with at Jordy’s party and started all the rumors about right before prom.”

“Shit! I remember that.” Ace dropped his fork. “Man, she sure has changed a lot. Nate was all over her shit last night. Lucky bastard.”

That was exactly what I didn’t want to hear. It pissed me off, but it was ridiculous. I had no claim over Jane. I was about to ask more when Michelle came downstairs. She hadn’t bothered to comb her hair and she looked like she had just rolled out of bed. She was wearing one of my t-shirts and a pair of my boxers. At one point, not too long ago, I would have probably thought she looked adorable. It would have pumped up my pride, because it was obvious what we had been doing all night. Instead, it made me feel more deflated and depressed than ever.

“Hi guys.” She smiled at me. “Dusty, I’m starving. Can you make me something for breakfast?”

“How about you get dressed and I’ll make you a cup of coffee?” It wasn’t the most generous offer, but it was all I could muster up at the moment.

She pouted. “But I’m hungry. Don’t you have at least a bagel or something in there-”

We all turned to the staircase as we heard footsteps coming down. I couldn’t believe what I saw. Everything inside me turned ice cold.

Nate came down the steps followed by Jane. My Jane. I vaguely registered the look of horror cross her face when she saw us all gathered in the front room, witness to her apparent embarrassment.

I could barely hear what was being said because a rush of blood was pounding in my ears. I almost lost my shit whe
n Michelle chose that exact moment to flounce on over and sit in my lap.

Michelle giggled. “Well, if it isn’t Jane! You look tired, Jane. I know how you feel. I didn’t get any damn sleep last night either. Dusty kept me up all night long!”

Jane didn’t even look in our direction, but Nate shot Michelle a disgusted look. Neither of them said a word, but walked through the room and out the front door.

Fuck! I couldn’t decide whether I was in a table-flipping rage or just too damn depressed to bother moving.

  Chapter 9

  Jane

It took more than a few conversations with Millie and several pints of ice cream to ‘pretend’ to get over my infatuation with Dusty. I knew I wasn’t really over him, but I had tricked my mind into believing it so that I could move on.

The night of Dusty’s party had gone so horribly wrong. After I found out that Dusty had a girlfriend, I drowned my misery in alcohol. I threw myself into playing drinking games at the party until I could no longer walk or see straight. In my drunken stupor, I sent Millie home without me. I vaguely remember arguing with her until she finally left me.

At the end of the night, when I was left stranded and drunk, Nate took care of me. I stayed overnight in his room, but nothing happened between us. If he had wanted to do something, I wouldn’t have objected, but he took the high road. Not that anyone would believe that, especially after all of Nate’s roommates saw me slinking out of the house the next morning. For some reason, the whole night I hadn’t realized that Dusty and Nate were roommates. It was unnerving to put it together in the morning and then downright awful to have Dusty and his bitch of a girlfriend see me on my way out the door.

They say when one door closes another opens. At least, Aunt Bettie, the eternal optimist, was always telling me that. The Dusty door had slammed shut on me, but the Nate door seemed cracked open. Nate was interested in me. And Nate was no slouch in the looks department and he definitely seemed like a nice guy. I needed to focus on door #2 now.
