A New Heaven and a New Earth

Revelation 21:1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

  The Millennium

1 The 1,000 years will begin when the Messiah’s foot touches the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.

2 Before he arrives, he will gather all of his people, dead and still alive (the first resurrection), from the four corners of the earth. We will all be changed “in the twinkling of an eye” into immortal bodies, and we will accompany him as he arrives.

3 The Messiah will go to war and totally wipe out all those armies (millions of men), from all of the nations, who have assembled against him.

4 He will present his bride (his followers, the “body of Messiah”) to himself, “pure and spotless, without wrinkle or blemish” and celebrate a great “wedding feast of the Lamb” with his people.

5 As part of this he will host an award ceremony, the “judgement seat of Christ,” where the faithful will be rewarded for what they have done. Some will be made rulers over several cities, some over a few – depending on what “treasure in heaven” they stored up while on earth.

6 He will rule over the survivors of the nations of the world with a “rod of iron” and we will rule with him.

7 Jerusalem will be the capital of the earth, raised up with all the land flat around it. A river of life will flow out of Jerusalem – to east and to the west – turning the Dead Sea into a living sea, teeming with fish. Trees will grow on both banks, with fruit to eat month after month, and whose leaves bring healing to the nations.

8 All the nations of the earth will come up to Jerusalem to worship God and his Messiah and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles (Succot). If they do not come up, they will receive no rain.

9 After the 1,000 years of righteous rule, Satan, who has been bound all this time, will be loosed to once again deceive the nations of the world and lead them in a final attack on Jerusalem. Fire will come down from heaven and destroy them.

10 The earth and the heavens will melt away and disappear. The rest of the dead will be raised and judged before the great white throne of God. Satan, and all those whose names are not found in the Book of Life, will be cast into the lake of fire.

11 A new heaven and a new earth will be created by God and the “New Jerusalem” will come down from heaven and appear on the new earth, where God will dwell with his people for ever. And there will be no more death!

  18 Time for a timeline

People love a timeline – and I agree that they are very useful for putting things into perspective – providing a clear picture of what to expect when, and why. So, what is next on the world prophetic agenda?

‘The gospel of the kingdom’ preached

If we refer back to the summary given in The Revelation 14:6-12 (see our Chapter 11) you may remember that the first angel announces that the “gospel of the kingdom” will be preached “to every tribe, people, language and nation”, then, says Yeshua, “the end will come.” (Matthew 24)

That time is rapidly coming to a close, though not every tribe has been reached quite yet. This is where we can “look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.” (2 Peter 3:12)

  Middle East developments

While this important task is being completed, we should also keep our eyes on the Middle East. Currently we see those who want the destruction of Israel are testing her borders – both with flotillas designed to break the naval blockade imposed by Egypt and Israel; and by actual attempts to cross the Syrian border and other borders – aided by their respective governments.

The so-called Arab Spring movement for ‘democracy’ in the Middle East could well turn into a “destroy Israel” policy, as the new Arab governments fail to deliver on their promises.

Meanwhile Iran (Elam and Persia in the prophecies) continues towards a nuclear missile capability, while continually threatening to “wipe Israel off the map.” Sooner, probably, rather than later, these forces in the Arab/Moslem world will again combine in order to carry out their threats.

Anti-Semitism will continue to increase throughout the world – especially in the United States, who will continue to turn her back upon Israel, forcing her into decisions and policies of death. But God has promised to annul Israel’s covenant with death!

Israel will experience terror in the evening, but by morning her enemies will be gone – like chaff, or dust, before a gale! The Middle East will have changed overnight, giving Israel a much larger territory and possession of the rich resources of those states surrounding her.

At the same time we can look to see more and more Jews and ten tribe Israelites seeking to make aliyah (emigrate) to Israel. Though causing obstacles to this at the moment, we should expect to see a change of attitude of ‘Judah’ (the State of Israel, and particularly the Ministry of Interior) towards Ephraim (these ten tribe nations).

More of the Menashe will make it to Israel from India, the Lemba and Igbo will apply for aliyah. DNA testing of the Pashtuns will be completed and the results published. The trickle will grow and steadily increase and, after the 6-hour war, it will become a ‘Second Exodus!’

Many Jews will find it more and more difficult to leave the USA. They may be forced to leave empty-handed, or even be smuggled out through Canada or Mexico. Both of these nations can have a potential for blessing Israel, by helping Jews and others out of USA and transporting them to Israel.

America will be destroyed in one hour!

The fall of Mega-Babylon – the United States of America – will come as a complete shock to the whole world (with the exception of those devious leaders who will plan and execute it, of course!)

All her cites will be destroyed – burned with fire, in what would appear to be a nuclear holocaust. Her powerful military will be defeated without firing a shot! Her weapons in space, early warning systems, etc. will be of no avail. The president will be drinking and partying until he hears the news. By then it will be much too late to react. His hands will hang limp in shock!

There WILL be survivors – who will quickly conclude that there is nothing left to stay for. Those from other nations will return to their home states: Irish home to Ireland, Chinese back to China, Germans home to Germany, etc.

The surviving Jews and other Israelites – together, I suspect, with First Nation (Native American) tribes, who have no other home (except possibly Canada), but DO have an affinity with Israel – will seek somehow to get to the greatly extended land of Israel.

The heart of stone will be removed

The people of Israel – now gathered in from all the nations to which the Lord had scattered them – will “look on Me whom they pierced.” There will be a complete change of heart within the nation of Israel (all twelve tribes), causing great mourning through-out the whole land of Israel.

; The exact timing of this event is not clear, but it will be after the 6-hour war and before the “middle of the seven”, when the Anti-Christ will put a stop to the daily sacrifice. Perhaps the timing will become clearer as we study these prophecies more in coming days?

  The Anti-Christ will be revealed

The economies of the world will be in chaos and emergencies, shortages and famine will be on the increase. A new world government will quickly be declared. The ten major nations – now the only super-power remaining, with America out of the picture – will hand over their authority to one man.

This charismatic leader, with almost superhuman abilities, will appear to have been killed and been resurrected. He will extend his authority over the whole world and the “whole earth will wonder after him.” He will have only seven years to reign and will begin with a covenant involving Israel, which will allow temple sacrifices to begin again!

After the first three and a half years he will break that covenant. In the “middle of the seven,” he will step in and put a halt to the daily sacrifice and offering, instead entering the Holy of Holies and declaring himself to be God.

He will seek to destroy the people of Israel, who will be forced to flee into the desert/mountains – probably southern Jordan today, around ancient Petra – where they will be protected and provided for in “a place prepared for them by God.”

The beast/Anti-Christ will then vent his anger on all those around the world who follow Yeshua, persecuting them and killing many, because they refuse to worship him, or to have his mark on their hand or forehead.

The rest of the world will willingly receive this mark, allowing them to buy and sell. Those who trust in Yeshua will need to believe Him for extraordinary miracles of provision and protection!

God’s wrath will be poured out upon all those who worship the beast and have the mark. Yet they will continue to hate Him and refuse to repent of their evil deeds.

Finally, the Anti-Christ will gather together the armies of all the nations of the world, including 200 million men from the “kings of the east.” They will enter northern Israel and assemble beside the hill of Har Megiddo, ready to launch a final attack upon Jerusalem and those who love God and his Messiah, Yeshua.

  The Return of the King!

Yeshua, the promised Messiah, will appear in the clouds, just as he left. He will bring with him all those who love and follow him, from the four corners of the earth – including all those who have died previously.

Their bodies will be resurrected and those still alive will be transformed and we will all be caught up to meet Yeshua as he descends to the Mount of Olives, outside Jerusalem. The mountain will split in two and a great new valley be formed running east-west, with a river flowing out in both directions.

He and his angels will go to war against all those nations camped against Jerusalem and their armies will be completely wiped out! The birds and animals will feast on the millions of dead bodies and the people of Israel will take seven months to bury their bones. In addition, their weapons will be gathered up and used for fuel for seven years – as no weapons will be needed any longer for defence.

1,000 year reign of the Messiah

The Messiah will rule the whole earth from Jerusalem, and his servants will be given authority over nations and cities around the world, to govern in His name. Every nation will come up year by year to worship him in Jerusalem – if not, they will receive no rain!

God will wipe away every tear from the eye of those, Israelite or Gentile, who believe in him! The Messiah will rule the earth for a thousand years.

Eventually, after that time, Satan will be loosed from prison and there will be another rebellion of the nations against the Messiah. They will again be totally defeated and the whole earth will be burned up.

All the rest of the dead will be raised and all the nations will be judged by Him before the Great White Throne of God. A new heavens and a new earth will be revealed and God’s people will live upon that new earth with their Messiah.

Now is the time to bow the knee before the Messiah!

  Timeline in brief

1 The good news of the kingdom will be preached to every tribe, language, people and nation.1

2 The Middle East will explode into war once again. The Arabs and other Muslim nations will attack Israel, but will be wiped out. They will become like chaff, dust and tumbleweed before a gale!

3 More of the ten tribe nations will make aliyah to Israel – the trickle becoming a flood, a 2nd Exodus! Israel will gain the territory of their enemies, but also the enmity of the world, including the USA.

4 Anti-semitism and opposition towards aliyah to Israel will greatly increase in the USA. Jews may have to go underground to escape America!

5 America will be destroyed by fire in one hour!

6 Survivors will return to their own lands, the Jews and Israelites to newly expanded Israel. The “heart of stone” will be removed from Israel and they will recognise their Messiah.*

7 The man known as the ‘beast’ will be revealed and be given power by the world’s remaining ten most powerful nations.

8 He will make a covenant allowing Israel to begin sacrifices in a newly built temple in Jerusalem. He will halt the sacrifices after 3 1/2 years, seek to persecute Israel and vent his wrath on the rest of Messiah’s followers.

9 He will cause the whole world to receive a mark on the right hand or forehead; otherwise they cannot buy or sell.

10 The wrath of God will be poured out as severe plagues upon all those who have received the mark, but they will not repent of their evil deeds.

11 The armies of all nations will assemble in Israel to destroy Jerusalem.

12 Messiah will return with all those who love him resurrected and caught up to meet him in the clouds as he descends to the Mount of Olives, in Jerusalem.

13 He will destroy the Anti-Christ and all the armies of the nations and set up his kingdom, ruling the nations from Jerusalem “with a rod of iron.”

14 His followers will reign with him after the ‘Marriage Feast of the Lamb’ and his Award Ceremony – ruling over the cities of the nations.

15 Each nation will come up every year to worship in Jerusalem at the Feast of Tabernacles.

16 At the end of 1,000 years of Messiah’s rule, Satan will be loosed and will deceive the nations once again into attacking Jerusalem, but fire will come down from heaven and destroy them.

17 The earth will melt away, the rest of the dead will be raised and the Great White Throne judgement will take place. Those whose names are not found in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire, along with Satan.

18 The new heaven and new earth will be created and the saints will live there with the Lord forever.

19 The greatest prophet of all

John the Baptist, the last of the Old Testament prophets) described the “one who would come after him”:

Matthew 3:11 “I baptize you with water for repent-ance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Yeshua of Nazareth was a Hebrew prophet. His mother, Miriam, was descended from the tribe of Judah, and from the family of David (Matthew 1:1-16). His stepfather, Yosef, was also of the tribe of Judah and family of David (Luke 3:23-38).

The Hebrew word, ‘Messiah’ (Greek: Christos, Christ), means “anointed one” – i.e. anointed by the Holy Spirit of God (the Ruach HaKodesh in Hebrew, meaning “Holy breath,” or “Holy wind”).

Isaiah 11:1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD— 3 and he will delight in the
fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; 4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. 5 Right-eousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
