“Okay, ma’am,” Elijah took Jack’s hand and tugged him toward the back of the bar. Jack was smiling and spinning himself in circles as Elijah tried to guide him toward the back room.
“Now what?” Billy sat on the pool table and pushed one of the balls along the table and into one of the pockets.
“We wait.”
They only had to wait just over two minutes before they heard Jack yelling. It was another few minutes before another yell. This continued until they heard Jack yell for the fourth time, after which Elijah popped his head out of the back room.
“It works.”
“Well, Miss Jackson. I believe we need to talk business,” Victor stood and held his hand out for the smaller woman. She took his hand with a smile and followed him back into his office. Victor locked the door before gesturing for her to take a seat.
“We need to discuss price and profit.”
“I’m happy for you to take the drugs as long as you don’t question where I get them. And I get half the profit.” Mallory crossed her legs and reached over to pick up a glass of whiskey sitting on his desk. Victor was about to protest when she took a sip and he saw the pleasure flash across her face. He would have loved to be the one who made that expression appear.
“That would work fine, but I’ll need you to stay here for at least a month.”
“Excuse me?”
“Insurance policy. I need to know you’re not going to sell this to other people,” Victor placed the small bag of pills on the desk in front of him and stared at her.
Mallory’s heart fluttered in her chest as she felt Victor’s stare upon her. Images flashed through her head, goosebumps appeared on her skin. What would happen if she and Victor took O? Would the pleasure be as amazing as Jack’s appeared to be? Would it be as easy as the test subjects at the station made it appear to be?
Mallory gave herself a mental shake and stared into Victor’s eyes. She was here to do her job, not to sleep with the target. The man had to be hiding something. Surely. He was Florida’s top drug lord. He didn’t simply keep girls he’d only just met at his home.
“I would have to go home and get some clothes and needed supplies.”
“I’ll gladly take you.”
“Do you have a bathroom? I need to freshen up.”
“First door down the hall on your left.” Victor stood at the same time Mallory did and watched her leave. His eyes were glued to her backside and the way it sashayed out of the room. Moments later, Billy was inside his office, glaring.
“What?” Victor raised one dark eyebrow in question.
“Insurance policy? What the fuck are you talking about? We never keep people here!”
“This is my club house and you’ll do as I fucking say, or do you want to end up like Jesse?”
“No.”
“I need you, Jesse, Alex, and Matthew to go on a run.” Victor slid into his leather jacket, donned his gloves, and picked his helmet up off the cabinet before turning back to Billy.
“Where to?”
“Charlie’s missed his payment for the third time this week.”
“Do you want him brought in?”
“No, I can’t risk anything being said in front of Mallory. I don’t completely know her yet. Just leave him with something he won’t be able to forget for a while.”
“Sure thing, boss,” Billy smirked. He loved dishing out the beatings when their clients didn’t pay in time or avoided payment altogether.
“Whenever you’re ready,” Mallory was leaning against the door a few moments later, and Victor couldn’t help but look at those long legs. Mallory’s black heels made her appear taller than she actually was, her legs seem longer than they were.
“You sure you can ride a motorcycle in that short dress?”
“Watch me, stud,” Mallory winked and Victor smirked at her before handing her a helmet.
“Come on, let’s go get your stuff.”
****
“This is really where you live?” Victor leaned against the door as Mallory pulled a suitcase from under her bed. Victor’s eyes were drawn to her backside again as Mallory bent over.
“It was the only place available.”
Victor’s eyes left her behind to look around the tiny, miserable room. The walls were covered in damp and mold, the carpet was torn in multiple places and had God-knows-what stains on it, the kitchen floor was coated with scum. Victor didn’t want to think what kind of condition the bathroom was in.
At least with Mallory at his home, she’d be safe and clean. Victor pushed himself away from the door with a frown. Where did that thought come from? He’d only just met Mallory but he couldn’t stop thinking of her laid out on his silk sheets.
“Victor?” Mallory snapped her fingers in front of his face and he turned to leave. “I’m done.”
It didn’t take them long to get back to the clubhouse. It was nearly three in the afternoon, almost time for the weekly club meeting.
“I’ll show you to your room so you can settle in,” Victor took Mallory’s suitcase and led her up mahogany stairs to her bedroom. He didn’t question why he put her in the bedroom nearest his. He convinced himself that it was because in case she was up to something, he’d be able to hear everything she said.
“I’ll be in the conference room. Do not enter,” Victor tossed her suitcase onto the bed and left without saying goodbye. When he opened the door to the conference room, nine male faces turned toward him.
“Nice of you to join us,” Billy reclined in one of the wide-backed chairs as he stared at Victor.
“Just because you’re Vice President doesn’t mean you can get snarky with me, Bill.”
“Sorry, Sir.”
“Let’s get down to business.”
****
“He is seriously making you live there?” Richard screamed over the phone. Mallory winced, hoping no one heard him. As a precaution, she turned the shower on in the en suite to drown out the sound of their conversation.
“Yes. Captain said it was a good way to get a look at their operation. Richard, I can look after myself. This is a good thing.”
“Please explain to me how it’s a good thing, Mallory!”
“Stop shouting. Someone might hear.”
“I’m sorry. Please explain.”
“Being in his home is easier because I won’t have to think of reasons to see him. This will give me time to look around while they’re all sleeping. Richard, this is a good thing.”
“Promise me you won’t do anything... stupid.”
“I promise.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too, bro,” Mallory hung up and stepped into the shower. May as well use it since it’s heated up. She was just wrapping a towel around herself when the bedroom door opened.
Victor stood there with a cup in his left hand. He froze when he caught sight of her wearing just a towel.
“I apologize. I didn’t mean to barge in,” Victor turned his back and Mallory couldn’t help the chuckle that slipped past her lips.
“Something amusing, Miss Jackson?”
“Never seen a woman in a towel before, Mr Klein?” Mallory headed over to the suitcase she was yet to unpack.
“Of course I have.”
Mallory chuckled again before choosing her underwear from the suitcase and dropping her towel, hoping that Victor wouldn’t turn around while she was nude. She slid into her black lace panties and matching bra before digging in the case again.
“I just came to tell you it’s time to eat.”
“I’m not really hungry.”
“You’ll eat when you’re in my house.”
Mallory pulled a pair of sweatpants and an overly large shirt out of her suitcase and turned around to find Victor’s wide chest right in her face.
“You can’t tell me what to do,” said Victor.
This close, Mallory could smell Victor’s cologne. It was a musky scent that tickled each one of her senses. Mallory tried hard
not to breathe in the erotic scent, but each breath she took, the more her body responded.
“Why so flushed, sweetheart?” Victor brushed his hand down the shorter woman’s cheek with a smile. Mallory couldn’t help but lean into the caress for a few seconds before jerking herself away.
“I’ll be at dinner shortly.”
“Mallory...”
“If you wouldn’t mind, I’d like to get dressed now.”
“Of course,” Victor turned and left the room.
Mallory sank onto the bed with a deep sigh. Why was her body reacting to Victor like this? She was supposed to be collecting evidence to put this man in prison; instead, all she could think about was what the man would feel like between her legs.
She dressed in the sweatpants and shirt before tying her hair in a messy bun. She took a deep breath before leaving the bedroom and followed the sound of deep voices. She arrived at an elegant dining room with a table large enough to seat the entire police force.
“Sit, please,” Victor gestured at an empty place near him. Mallory perched herself on the edge of the cushioned seat. She took the time to look at the men around the table. There were ten including Victor and three women. All the men were dressed similarly in looser-fitting clothes, except for Victor, who wore tight jeans and tight shirts. The other men had short-cropped hairstyles. Victor’s hair wasn’t long, but it was long enough that it curled around his ears.
The three women were each sitting next to a man, laughing and exchanging touches with them.
“That’s Elizabeth, she’s Bill’s wife,” Victor bent over to whisper, “the woman sitting next to Jesse is his girlfriend, Rose. The one next to Michael is Michelle, his wife.” Mallory nodded and took note of all the names, hoping she’d be able to pass them on to Richard later that night.
“You’re not a vegetarian, are you?” Victor frowned at her. She shook her head. She didn’t want to be kept at the table long, though, and once the food arrived she ate hurriedly and then excused herself on the pretext of being tired.
Back in her room, she headed into the bathroom, locked the door, and turned the taps on before calling Richard.
“What’ve you got for me?”
“Jokers Motorcycle Club only has ten members, including Victor himself. The names I’ve gotten so far are Billy, Jesse, Jack, Michael, and Elijah. Jesse, Billy, and Michael all have wives or girlfriends. Their names are Elizabeth, Rose, and Michelle.”
“Good, that’s good. Anything else you noticed?”
“They had a meeting at 3 p.m. but I wasn’t allowed into the room. I’ll try and plant bugs tonight so we can hear some of the conversations.”
“Try and plant one on Victor’s phone if you can.”
“He keeps it on him all the time.”
“Well, use your assets, Mall.”
“I’ll try.”
“Good girl. Sleep well.” Richard hung the phone up and Mallory turned the taps off before hurrying back into the bedroom. She turned the lights out when she heard heavy footsteps on the wooden floor outside. A few seconds later there was a knock on the door.
“Mallory, there’ll be a party in the club three weeks from now. You’re invited.”
“Okay. Goodnight, Victor,” Mallory crawled into the bed and closed her eyes, hoping to get some sleep before planting the bugs early in the morning.
****
Mallory tiptoed out of bed at 4 a.m. the next morning and then crept into the conference room. The whole club was dark and silent. She held the small circular device in her mouth as she crawled under the table to stick the bug onto the base of the table. The whole operation was finished in five minutes.
Her next challenge was to get Victor’s phone. She hoped he left it in his office at night, but that was unlikely. She snuck toward Victor’s study and opened the door as quietly as she could.
The phone was there…with Victor speaking into it. He swung around on his leather chair and frowned at her.
“Yes, Charlie. Make sure you get the payment in by 3 p.m. or I’ll send Jesse alone this time.” Victor hung the phone up and continued to stare at her.
Mallory gripped the bug tightly in her left hand and brushed a strand of hair away from her face.
“I… couldn’t sleep.”
“And I had business to attend to.” Victor stood and walked around the desk before placing the phone next to his hip. “Why couldn’t you sleep?”
“I don’t know. I was too... hot.” Mallory tugged the collar of her shirt away from her throat and looked down at her bare legs. Sometime during the night she’d taken her sweatpants off and was left in the overly large shirt.
“We have air conditioning.” Victor watched as she slowly walked toward him. Mallory pouted, placed her hand on the desk beside Victor’s phone, and licked her lips.
“Not that kind of hot,” she leaned on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear.
Victor chuckled, moving his hand from the table to rest on her lower back, just above her behind.
“What type of hot was it then?”
“Oh, you know the type...” Mallory let her other hand brush across the front of Victor’s tight jeans as she got up on tiptoe to kiss his neck. The bug was so close to the phone now, all she had to do was slide it onto the screen. It was a new type of bug that the technical team had developed: a clear sticker you placed on the front of the screen. It was virtually undetectable.
“I’m sure I do.” Victor’s hand moved from beside his phone to play with her hair. Mallory licked her lips again and took a deep breath. It was now or ever. She bent forward and pushed her lips against his as she slid the sticker into place.
Victor growled and tugged her hands away from the table, locking them behind her back. She was sure she’d been caught, but when Victor continued the kiss she knew she hadn’t. The restriction evoked a pleasure forming deep in her body, a pleasure she’d never experienced before.
Victor forced his tongue into her mouth and Mallory couldn’t stop the quiet moan that slipped through her lips. Victor finally released her arms and she reached up to slide her hands through Victor’s dark hair. At the moment she couldn’t care less about the case. She was only worried about the throbbing between her legs.
She squeaked in surprise as Victor lifted her and placed her on the desk, positioning himself between her thighs. The kiss stopped briefly as they caught their breath, then Victor slammed his lips down on hers again.
The bug was planted. She should stop this from going any further. Her body wasn’t having any of that, though. Victor’s hand trailed along her bare thigh and Mallory shivered at the unexpected touch.
A sudden knocking on Victor’s door caused them to pull away from each other, and brought Mallory to her senses.
Mallory slid from the table and rushed out of the room without looking back. She bumped into Jack on the way out, and the bartender caught her before she fell.
“It sure didn’t take Victor long.”
“I–”
“You don’t need to explain. Now come with me, I’ve been told to give you breakfast.”
“How–”
Jack tapped his ear, and Mallory noticed the small black device inside his ear. As she walked past a cleaning lady in the hall, she noticed the same thing. So that’s how they all kept connected, she thought to herself. She stored the information away for later use. Jack made sure she ate breakfast before she rushed off upstairs and into her room.
****
“Earpieces. That’s how they keep in touch,” Mallory gasped as Richard answered the phone.
“Huh?”
“I planted the bugs. They all have earpieces except for Victor. I think he uses his phone to keep in touch with them.”
“That’s actually a good idea. Let me activate the bugs.”
“I’ve got to go,” Mallory hung up her phone and tossed it under the covers as her door opened and Victor was standing there.
“We need to talk.”
“That was a
mistake and it won’t happen again,” Mallory tugged her shirt farther down, fully conscious of her bare skin on display. Victor sighed and nodded before leaving the bedroom. Mallory didn’t think it would be that easy to convince him that it shouldn’t happen again.

She only had a week left at the house. The past three weeks passed quickly, and she hadn’t found anything interesting or useful. Richard had told her that Victor planned to send a large amount of O to a Russian dealer in less than a week. She just had to make sure she was there when it happened.
