The arsehole wolf is playing me good, like a deck of cards in a casino.
“Fine,” I squeak, shifting my body. I pray to whatever God there is that Conner can not currently see where Hunter’s hands are positioned.
“I think I’ll go make us some tea,” I say, jumping up off Hunter’s lap and practically sprinting into the kitchen.
Hunter follows me with a smug smile firmly planted on his face.
“What the hell, Hunter?” I shriek. I want to know what the hell he thinks he’s playing at?
“May I remind you, that you’re the one who started with me, siren,” he growls, closing the distance between us.
He stalks me like a, well, a wolf, and I find myself backing up until my ass hits the edge of the counter. Leaning into my body, he breathes in my scent and nuzzles my neck with his nose.
“What did you expect when you came downstairs sans bra and plopped your perfect ass in my lap?” he whispers in my ear reaching behind me and grabbing my ass in a firm hand. He’s hard as hell, and I can feel him through my jeans.
“I was proving a point,” I say, barely getting the words out before he pulls on the neck of my shirt, bites down hard where my neck and shoulder meet, and starts to suck.
“What are you doing?” I moan, gripping the edge of the counter tightly. Instead of answering, he moves his hand under my shirt and pulls it up, exposing my breasts to the cool air.
“Hunter,” I hiss, trying and failing to get his attention.
“I’m doing what I wanted to do when I saw these beautiful tits exposed this morning,” he groans. When his head moves towards my breast and his tongue wraps around my hard nipple, I'm gone, forgetting why this is a bad idea. My grip on the counter has white knuckled, and I tilt my neck all the way back, offering my breast to him like a sacrifice. Hunter bites down hard, and the pain triggers a pool of wetness between my legs.
“What if someone comes in here?” I question absentmindedly.
“I don’t give a fuck,” he growls, biting harder as he moves his other hand, pulling on my piercing and fondling my tit.
“Hunter,” I whine, not sure what I’m asking. I don’t want him to stop. Whatever has come over him, I’m all for it.
“I thought I was making myself clear,” he mumbles around my breast. “If not, let me make myself clearer.”
“What does that mean?”
He doesn’t answer, leaving me confused, until his hand moves inside my jeans, bypassing my underwear, and going straight to my pussy.
His finger circles my clit before dipping down to move in and out of me, and I moan loudly. My chest starts to rapidly rise and fall, but I don’t question it when Hunter draws blood when he bites back down hard on my nipple. As he sucks my blood from my tit, his fingers circle my clit faster, driving me quickly to my peak. He expertly pinches my clit and circles back around, rubbing faster, and I come hard. He starts to fuck me with his fingers, using my wetness against me, and before I know it, I come again. Rearing my head back, I strike, biting down hard on his deltoid like a snake.
I’m putty in his hands, panting hard when I release him and licking his blood from my lips. A warm, all too familiar tingling sensation spreads across my right arm. Releasing my tit with a loud pop, Hunter growls in appreciation running his fingers along my marking of a beautiful reddish brown wolf howling at the moon.
“Your wolf is beautiful,” I tell him. I’m in awe over everything that just happened. The bond is complete and Hunter was fully mine. “Why?” I ask softly.
He doesn’t answer. Instead he moves the hand that was just in my pussy to his mouth and sucks, licking each one of his fingers, never lifting his gaze from me. I can see the wolf in him, calculating my question, like he’s trying to determine how much he wants to tell me.
”Because you need me and I you. What everyone else has failed to tell you, however, is that once a bond is completed, if you die, we die, and vice versa.”
“What?” I exclaim, stepping back from him. “Why the fuck would you complete the bond then?” Why the hell would Hunter want our lives twined together? I am literally a walking death sentence.
“I’m still trying figure that out,” he answers, pulling my shirt down to cover my breasts. “I just know I’m tired of trying to stay away from you, siren.”
“Now go put a bra on, or no one will be able to stop me from bending you over this counter and fucking the daylights out of you,” he growls, kissing me roughly. I taste myself on him, and soon forget he just tried to order me around. A smug grin graces his face as he maneuvers around my body, leaving me alone and dazed in the kitchen.
“Arsehole,” I mutter to the empty kitchen.
Once I get back to the living room after a very cold shower, I notice Oreo has arrived in all his glory while I was away. Just like in the club, his beauty distracts me. It has to be illegal for a man to be that gorgeous. In fact, I’m starting to think it’s a requirement for supernatural males to be inhumanly beautiful. I also notice Oreo is sitting very close to my brother on the sectional and looking very cozy.
When I turn my attention toward my brother, he blushes and quickly looks away. I wonder what that’s about? Does my brother have a crush on the incubus? Oreo gives me a cocky smile that would melt the knickers off any red blooded woman when he notices my arrival.
“Hello there, pretty,” he purrs, damn near melting my panties off with his seductive voice.
I roll my eyes at Oreo’s nickname for me and take a seat on the couch next to my dads, away from trouble.
“Glad to see you made it safely,” I manage to respond once I get my libido under control.
Clapping my hands together, I ask, “So what's the plan? What are we doing today?” I’m ready to get to work. Too much sitting around doing nothing is driving me bonkers.
“Right. Today our dads will begin training you,” Row says before addressing Hunter and Cody. “And you two are with me and Oreo. I need to pick up some supplies, and a couple of extra guards watching my back isn’t a bad idea while we’re out.”
“Alright,” Hunter says, already getting up.
Cody walks over to me, ignoring Caleb’s scowl, and bends down to press a soft kiss to my lips.
“Be careful, vixen,” he says and then follows the others out the room.
Twenty-Four
I guess love makes you do crazy things, even unrequited
“Can I kill them?” Caleb grumbles.
“No,” Conner and I both say at the same time.
I hear Caleb mutter “damn cheeky prince,” under his breath before turning his attention to me.
“Well come on then. We have a lot of work to do.”
“Where are we going?” I ask, curious about this little father daughter outing. The concept is new to me. Whenever O’Donnell took me anywhere it was usually to kill someone, or to play in one of his sick twisted games.
“We need to go to a densely forested area. We can’t risk someone seeing us shift into giant wolves,” Conner explains.
“That makes sense, but---”.
“What is it, sweetheart?” Conner prompts.
“What if I can’t shift? I‘ve never done it before. I don’t even feel like there's a wolf in me,” I blurt out, expressing my concerns.
“No need to worry about that, ducky. I can sense your wolf in you, and she’s a strong one. You did not lose her. Soon you’ll get back in touch with her,” Caleb assures me, looking me over with sympathy in his eyes.
That, by far, has to be one of the nicest things he’s ever said to me. I feel self-conscious at times that he’s closer to my brother than me. I forget to keep in mind that he’s known my brother a whopping two years longer.
Almost an hour later we pull into Angeles Forest. I exit the SUV, and Conner hands me a military grade rucksack.
“We need to hike from here,” he explains at my questioning gaze, strapping his own ruck to his back. “We’re headed to Pleasant View Ridge.”
G
runting from the weight I donn my own ruck and I follow after the twins.
Today is another gorgeous sunny day, and despite being in shape, it doesn’t take me long to start sweating. Glancing over at the twins, I notice they both seem more at home surrounded by the forest. It makes me realise I know nothing about them or my mother. When my curiosity gets the better of me, I decide to ask.
“How did you guys meet my mother?”.
One of them clears their throat, and soon after Caleb says, “We met your mother on assignment.”
“I thought you guys always worked for The Agency before taking over,” I question.
“Not quite, sweetheart. Before we came to The Agency we used to work with a small group of supernaturals. We were investigating suspicious deaths within the supernatural community and how they were linked to a certain government agency, so Caleb and I volunteered to infiltrate them under the guise of being new recruits.”
“Weren’t you worried about them finding out you were supernaturals yourself?” I ask, dumbfounded that they would put their lives in danger like that. I can’t comprehend the concept of putting myself in danger for anyone other than my brother. I’m not that girl. The one with no self- preservation, one that would sacrifice herself for the greater good. You know, the one who stupidly run into danger half cocked and ill informed.
“There was always that possibility, but it’s not like they were supes themselves, where it would be easy for them to detect we weren’t human,” Conner says.
“Our lives are always in danger in our line of work. We didn’t even think twice about that when we volunteered. After we were successfully in, we met your mother two weeks later. She was such a hardass to us,” Conner says smiling at the memory.
“She hated us at first,” Caleb adds, with a smile of his own to match his brother’s.
“She did. Catherine would turn the most delicious shade of red, almost matching her hair, every time we were around,” Conner said, agreeing with his brother.
“Because you were always flirting with her, you cad,” Caleb jokes, elbowing his brother.
Their playful banter is refreshing to see. It makes them look younger somehow and not so uptight in Caleb’s case.
“Why would mum work for people who were killing supernaturals, and how did she end up being with you two?” I question. My mum’s motives were confusing. If she was a good person why would she work for people who hurt supernaturals?
“Nothing is always cut and dry. It was a family business, and Catherine knew nothing about her family’s true nature,” Caleb explains. “She was a brilliant coder like your brother and mostly worked behind the scenes. She never saw what really went on when agents were deployed on missions. One day the three of us were sent on our own private mission, and that’s when we all fell in love. After a couple months together, we told her what was going on and why we were really there. She chose right then and there to turn her back on her family and help us. A year later we found out she was pregnant with you and your brother. We were over the moon with joy to find out we would soon be parents.”
“We were already making plans on finishing up our mission. Cat being pregnant helped speed up that deadline. While we were with each other, Caleb had to pretend to be me when they went out, because we knew that no one would understand the status of our relationship. Catherine’s family was very religious and extremely strict; they would never let us be with Cat if they knew the truth. We wanted to be free with our relationship and not have to hide it. We were surrounding ourselves with lies, and we hated it. Lying about who we are, about why we were there, our relationship. It was a lot, and it put a lot of additional stress on your mother.
“We were out on another mission together when we got caught. Patrick O’Donnell was you mother’s best friend and a close friend of her family’s. We always knew he was in love with Cat, but she never saw it. The git was always sniffing around her, and it made hiding our relationship even more difficult. O’Donnell always hated us, because he felt like we took Cat away from him. He made it his mission to be in our way, because he was so obsessed with your mother. We never took him seriously, writing him off as some love sick puppy. A human that didn’t stand a chance. Thinking back on it now, maybe we should have.
“Somehow he found out about us being supernaturals and that we were both with Cat. After outing us to our superiors and Cat’s family, O’Donnell got the permission he needed to pursue us. He lead a small team of men and came after us with everything he had. We barely made it out alive. After that we went into hiding. We handed over all the intel we gathered and our notes on the best way to take down the syndicate before we went dark. While on the run, we married your mother and hid in an old church in Worcestershire, England where your mother safely delivered you and your brother,” Conner finishes, looking over at me with moist eyes.
“I don’t understand. How did we end up with O’Donnell in the first place?” I question.
I could tell reliving the past hurt them. I can’t begin to understand the pain they’ve carried around all these years.
“Hours after your delivery we received word that O’Donnell was seen in the area. We wanted to keep all of you safe, so Conner and I left to take on O’Donnell directly. We found out too late that it was all a ruse to separate us from your mother. Someone at the church betrayed us and not only told O’Donnell our whereabouts, but they also gave away details about our exit plan. Your mother was fleeing with you and your brother when O’Donnell found you.”
“There was a small rowboat your mother was supposed to take to safety docked a couple miles away from the church,” Conner says. “We found your mother’s body at the edge of the river with a bullet in her head and you two missing. We searched for you two everywhere.”
“We never thought he would ever kidnap you and your brother, or kill your mother. He loved her, but I guess love makes you do crazy things. Even unrequited love. After losing all of you we were just shells of the men we used to be. A very good friend of ours came to us and gave us a new purpose--,” Conner cuts off when his emotions get the best of him, and Caleb takes over.
“Lucas DelaCorte was able to take down The Agency with the information we provided. He then turned the reins over to us and told us to make it into something better. He explained that he’d interrogated the old members of The Agency about your whereabouts, but no one knew where O’Donnell disappeared to. No one knew where you and your brother were, or any worthwhile details about what happened, but we knew deep down that you two were alive, and that one day we would all meet again.”
Wow. I don’t know what to say. I should have known O’Donnell had a sordid past with my parents. Why else would he go to so much trouble to raise us? Maybe that’s a dumb question. O’Donnell been stealing and raising kids in order to build his crime syndicate with the sweat off our backs. Maybe stealing us is what gave him the idea in the first place. I can’t imagine finding the love of my life dead and newborn babes gone. My heart hurts just thinking about something happening to my men.
Sorrow fills the air, and the silence becomes thick. I don’t want to end our conversation on that note. “Tell me more about my mother. I know Rowen takes after her with his premonitions, but what else was she good at?”
“She was brilliant,” Caleb says with a wistful smile.
“Beautiful,” Conner adds.
“She had long curly red hair, fair skin that reminded me of peaches, and the brightest green eyes you have ever seen,” Caleb muses.
Conner turns to me. “You’re a lot like her, you know.”
“Really?” I question, surprised at his omission. “How so?”
“She was strong just like you and didn’t take anyone’s bullshite. She was just as sarcastic as you too. She said whatever she wanted and had no filter,” Conner says, laughing.
“Thinking back on it, that might not be a good thing,” he says, smirking. “She also thought everything through like you do. Taking in the variables of e
ach situation.”
“That last part doesn’t sound like me. Leave it to Rowen; I’m too rash with decisions and run head first into danger.”
“That’s where you’re wrong, duckie. Rowen told us how you calculate the likelihood of success for every situation before making a decision. We know about the numbers and the math you do in your head, weighing the odds before deciding on a course of action, and that’s exactly what Catherine would do. Rowen is not the only one like his mother. I see a lot of her in you, Remy. If she were here, she would tell you how proud of you she was, and she’d love you more than the air she breathed.”
I’m shocked again by the heartfelt words coming from Caleb. How much passion and emotion he’s showing despite his hardened shell. Without thinking about it, I stop and wrap my hands around Caleb in a tight hug.
“I love you, dad,” I whisper against his chest.,
Wrapping his arms around me tighter, he hugs me back. ”Love you to, duckie,” he softly whispers back.
I hear Conner before he encircles me in his muscled arms from behind, and I tell him I love him too.
Pulling away, we continue our hike in silence, but this time it’s with a lighter heart. All the the lingering sorrow from earlier dissipates. I may not have my mother, but I have my dads, and they love me.
We make it to Pleasant View Ridge in good time. Even with the heart to heart along the way, it doesn’t slow us down one bit. Before long we’re standing in a heavily forested area as Caleb barks, “Get undressed.”
Well, stoic Caleb is back. That didn’t take long, but at least now I understand the man better.
“What?” I ask, narrowing my eyes at him.
“You need to undress or you’ll rip your clothes when you shift,” Conner explains.
“Oh, ok. Thank you for explaining,” I say, shooting Caleb a dirty look. The arse just shrugs and starts to strip right in front of me not caring if he flashed me his daddy bits. Gross. Once he goes to pull his boxers down I look away.
“I know this is new to you, but nudity is nothing in a shifter community,” Conners says, giving me a sympathetic look.
