Supernatural Enemies

  I cringe as my wounds pull but I keep going, no one can see my weakness I growl to myself.

  Strange coloured fur runs along my arms and I frown slightly. My bones break and reforms into my wolf form. I close my eyes as my face elongates into a muzzle.

  I slowly open my eyes when I hear Nat barking, I tilt my head and trot to meet her. She wags her tail and me and I bump my shoulder into hers, the sign of friendship in wolf form.

  “Have fun! And be careful” I hear Reece say and I turn my massive head towards him, I whine at him. I see the longing in his eyes as he looks to Nat, I realise he wants to be the wolf and he wants to run with Nat.

  An idea forms in my head and I trot towards him, he frowns at me as I lay down.

  I whine at him and paw at his leg, he chuckles slightly before his eyes widen.

  “You want me to ride on your back?” He steps back.

  I nod my head and he raises an eyebrow before carefully climbing onto my back. I stand up and test the added weight, once I get used to it I take off towards Nat.

  Reece yelps and grabs a fist full of my fur, I cringe at the pain but inside I’m laughing at how stupid we must look.

  Nat howls and we fall in step with her as the others falling around us. Reece chuckles as I jump next to Nat, I bark at her and she mockingly growls. I huff before taking off, my paws fly across the ground so fast I’m not even sure if I’m touching the ground.

  I hear Nat speeding up and I bark at her, trying to get her to race us. I hear her huff before she jumps over us, Reece laughs and I duck my head to gain speed. We race side by side, the wolf relaxes as we play. I feel the wolf’s thoughts mix with mine, he is home and so am I.

  These people were the ones to save us, help us and make sure we knew what we were doing and I will give my life for this pack to survive.

  I’m shaken out of my thoughts as I hear Nat howl, I growl at her but she playfully bows and wags her tail at me.

  “I guess you need to work on your racing” Reece pats my head and I roll my eyes at him.

  I hear Jake and Ivan panting and I huff at them. Reece chuckles before saying what I was thinking.

  “You two need to run more, how are you tired?” Reece chuckles and I huff.

  Jake mockingly growls at us and I growl back, he jumps at us and I jump back. Ivan bowls us over and Reece jumps from my back, for a second I growl for real. The wolf not understanding this is a game and not a threat.

  I shove the wolf from the driver's seat in my mind and I play bow to Ivan to let him know we can still play.

  I nip at his heels as he leaps past, I turn to see Nat and Jake sparring with each other.

  Reece grins at me before tilting his head, I duck just in time to avoid being taken to the ground.

  I hear Jake yelp and I turn to see Nat hovering over him with laughter in her eyes.

  I turn back and pluck Ivan from the air attack he was doing, he huffs as I take him to the ground and place a paw on his chest.

  “We have our winners!” Reece says and I trot around pleased with myself.

  I hear a howl, Percy’s howl. My head Jerks up and Reece jumps onto my back. We race back towards the shed with our hearts in our mouths. I quickly shift into my human form before thinking we should not have left him and I skip to a stop when we burst through the trees cover.

  “No need to hurry back” Percy chuckles and I sigh in relief, we are not under attack. Maddie grins at us and my eyes widen, I forgot to tell her we were going!

  “Sorry” I mutter to her and she rolls her eyes.

  “Don’t be” She replies.

  Chapter Fourteen

  “Let’s get some sleep,” Percy says as we follow him into the house, I cringe as I hear the splintering of wood.

  “It’s an old house, don’t worry though” Percy chuckles as Nat yelps.

  “I’ll take first watch,” I say and Percy frowns at me.

  “You need to sleep” Percy replies.

  “I’ll be fine” I mutter and he sighs before nodding.

  I plop down in a deck chair, the others shuffle into their rooms however Reece stays with me.

  “Thank you” He mutters.

  “What for? I saw how much you wanted to join us” I reply and Reece sighs before sitting down.

  “I do want to be part of the pack, it’s hard when you are a vampire” He mutters, I see tears forming in his eyes.

  “I bet it is” I reply.

  “I have an idea but it means leaving Nat for a while” Reece watches me with narrow eyes.

  “What’s your idea?” I ask as emotions curl in my chest.

  “I’m going to get captured by the people who made you and maybe they will do the same” Reece mutters, kicking a rock.

  “No way! That’s so stupid” I reply.

  “It’s the only way I can think of” Reece huffs, running a hand through his hair.

  “I’ll figure it out safely, do you even know what I went through in there? You would most likely be killed!” I nearly shout.

  “Whatever man I’m off to sleep” Reece grumbles, I narrow my eyes when he goes the opposite way and towards the door leading outside.

  I growl slightly before grabbing some paper and writing down what I’m doing and what Reece is thinking.

  With a nod I jog out of the house, being careful not to wake anyone up. A breeze meets me and I lift my nose into the air, scenting for the way Reece has gone.

  My mind tells me to leave it and that Reece is just going for a walk however the vampire side of me tells me just how lonely Reece must be and that he really thinks this is a good idea.

  “Stupid” I mutter before striping my clothes off and tying them to me.

  I let the shift take hold of me, I growl as old wounds threat to make an appearance. I hold back a cry as my bones break and re-shape. Fur runs along my body and I shake myself once the shift is complete.

  I yawn as sleep tries to take me, the fact that I haven’t slept for ages makes me weary as I trot. My nose is to the ground as I track Reece, his scent changes slightly with every step and I realise fear is tangling with his head. He isn’t thinking straight.

  I hear his scream and my head jerks up, fear runs like ice through my veins as I race towards the sound of Reece’s screams.

  I howl, my voice loud as it rises into the air. I hear Percy’s howl meet mine and I cut it off just as I race into a field. Reece’s unmoving body is curled up on the floor by four hunters.

  “That one!” I hear someone yell and all guns are pointed at me.

  I raise my paw and plant it down again, a hunter moves forward and I slowly trot forward. My ears twitch as I hear a nearly silent growl from Percy.

  I huff, hoping he can hear me. I hear his reply and I shake my head as if my shaking my fur, being careful not to alert the hunters to my packs presence.

  “Your days are numbered wolf. You have caused us loads of trouble and it’s time you were put down before you breed” The hunter growls and I lift my lips at him.

  I’m now so close I can see Reece’s chest moving, I hear his ragged breathing and I snarl. The hunter grins as I leap at him, I feel a bullet hit my chest but I ignore the pain as I focus on my mission; to kill these people who hurt my pack mate.

  My vision fades slightly as I bite down on the hunter's throat. I pull away and roll to dodge a knife from another hunter.

  I jump to my feet and snarl, one hunter backs up. His fear meets my nose and I huff, satisfaction fills me as the hunter turns and runs.

  I hear a steady hum and I look up, my jaw drops as I see two helicopters. A rope hangs from them and hunters descend.

  I bark a warning to Percy. His whine meets my ears and I shake my head. Telling him to get the others out of here before we are all caught and killed.

  Reece and I may not have a chance but the others have a choice to stay alive and fight to end all this.

  I shake my head and let the wolf take over, I feel the vampire side of me joining forces wi
th the wolf and I shiver as the two combine their strengths. I fight my hardest, however, the hunters quickly overwhelm me. I howl my pain as I’m taken to the floor. Shocks go through my body and I feel myself slipping into unconsciousness.

  I see Reece's eyes open as mine start to shut, I hear him telling me he is sorry and that he didn’t want this to happen however I cannot reply.

  Chapter Fifteen

  I groan as pain explodes behind my eyes, I open them to see cage bars. I sigh before pulling myself up slowly.

  “Jax?” I hear Reece's voice and I jerk my head towards him, I cringe when I see him tied to a metal table.

  “You okay?” I ask, Reece’s eyes tell me all I need to know and I growl.

  “I’m not sure” Reece shrugs, I roll my eyes at him before grabbing the bars of my cage. I yelp as shocks run through my body.

  “It’s the only thing that can stop a vampire” Reece chuckles and I frown at him, why is he laughing? I think to myself.

  “We really screwed up this time” I mutter to myself and I hear Reece chuckle again.

  “You feeling okay? What are you laughing at?” I ask him, anger at my situation lacing my voice.

  “If we don’t laugh we are going to cry” Reece frowns and I sigh, my body slumps to the cage floor and I stare at the ceiling.

  A door to my right opens and I turn my head towards it, I tense when my eyes meet the one who started all my suffering.

  “Well, Jax I didn’t think I would see you here anytime soon. We lost you twice but you are not going anywhere now” The man flashes me a creepy one-sided smile.

  “You know this whack job?” Reece narrows his eyes at me.

  I frown as I try to remember how I know him, my jaw drops when I find the memory. I frown even more as I realise my memories keep getting lost.

  I was fourteen and my mum married this man to help ends meet. We were poor and couldn't afford the rent. This man, or, Gath as he is called saved my mum but condemned me when I wouldn’t accept him as my father.

  He kidnapped me and told my mother I had died in a car accident.

  He used me for years trying to force this life onto me.

  I snarl as I’m shaken out of my nightmare. Gath laughs at me before I launch myself at him. He jumps when my cage gives slightly.

  “Now now son, I’m willing to take you back if you would like? Your mother would love that” Gath smiles and I hiss at him.

  “Go to hell” I snarl and I hear Reece gasp.

  Gath sighs and I stalk the length of my cage, growling with every step I take. A whimper escapes Reece as Gath picks up a needle with blue liquid in. I snarl and jump at the cage again, I ignore the shocks that rack my body as I fight to get out and help Reece.

  “Someone knock him out” Gath growls and I grunt as someone jabs me with a needle.

  “Leave him alone” I shout just as my mind shuts off and darkness claims me.

  “Jax wake up!” Jerks my foggy mind, I groan as I place a hand to my head. I open my eyes to see Reece standing in front of my cage.

  “We are getting out of here” He grins at me as he grabs the cage door and pops the lock.

  “What the hell?” I ask as he pulls me from the cage.

  “I was right, they made me into a hybrid. Now let’s get out of here” Reece mutters and pulls me along with him.

  I shake my head which pounds with every step I take. An alarm blares and Reece grins.

  “Percy followed us” Reece chuckles before shoving into a door which explodes.

  “Jax!” I hear Maddie's voice and I sigh with relief as she jumps into my arms.

  I sniff deeply, taking in her scent. It fills me and I growl slightly.

  “Mine” I mutter and she hugs me tighter.

  “Let’s go!” I hear Percy shout and I let Maddie go.

  Reece screams from behind me and I turn with a growl, expecting hunters, however, I raise an eyebrow as Reece’s body contorts into a wolf’s. His brown and black fur matches his red eyes.

  I shake my head and let the shift happen, my white, grey and red fur bursts form my skin as my body re-shapes.

  I bark at Reece who huffs at me while wagging his tail, I see Nat's alpha fur as she sprints to him. They nuzzle each other before taking off.

  Chapter Sixteen

  “Do you know how stupid that was!” Percy roars, I whimper at the power of his voice. Reece looks at the floor, he shifts uncomfortably.

  “I’m sorry okay?” He mutters and Percy turns to me.

  “Jax you should have told me instead of going off on your own. You are a werewolf now, you need to start working as a pack mate and not a lone wolf” Percy sighs as he runs a hand through his hair.

  “Yes sir” I grumble, the wolf within me trying to stop me from replying.

  I shuffle to my room and collapse onto my bed, the events of the last few weeks catching up with me and I curl into a ball. Tears fall from my eyes as emotions flood my mind.

  “Jax?” I hear Maddie whisper.

  “Yeah” I mutter and she walks into my room.

  She lays down next to me and I pull her close to me, I let out everything and she gently rubs my back. Once I have cried everything out she kisses my cheeks and rubs the fresh tears away.

  “We all need to cry” She whispers and I nuzzle her neck.

  She lets out a little groan and I bring her lips to mine, my wolf demanding we mate her right now.

  I shake my head and push away from her, she frowns at me as I pace the floor.

  “What’s wrong?” She asks.

  “I shouldn’t have done that I’m sorry Maddie” I mutter, pulling my hair.

  I feel her arms wrap around my body and she lays her head on my shoulder.

  “We are mates, I want everyone to know that” She grins as she nips my neck.

  I huff and turn into her embrace. She kisses me soundly on the lips and I pick her up, her eyes glow and I know she needs this just as much as I do.

  My wolf tells me how to do it and I kiss her neck as my fangs pop out, I lick her neck before letting my fangs sink into her neck. She cries out just before she bites my neck.

  I pull her closer and together we let the past go if only for one night…..

  “Morning” I hear Maddie and I grin.

  “Hello there” I chuckle.

  “You feeling better today?” She asks and I nod as the memory of what happened the night before fills my mind.

  “You will feel our bond start to open soon” She giggles before kissing me.

  “Okay love-birds get up” I hear Percy bang on the door and I mockingly growl.

  I sigh and jump up from the bed. Maddie rushes into the bathroom and I pad out into the living room.

  “Ellie has found some information we might need” Percy narrow his eyes at me and I frown.

  “You know the man behind all this” Percy growls as he grabs me and throws me against a wall.

  I struggle with his hold. He snarls at me and I cough slightly.

  “Let him go” Maddie growls and my eyes widen as I see a gun in her hands.

  Percy lets me go and I gasp for breath.

  “He married my mother then kidnapped and tortured me!” I yell, letting my emotions take over. I ball my fists, ready for Percy to make another move.

  “That’s what I needed to hear, I’m sorry but someone thinks you are a spy. I had to do it to provoke you” Percy puts his hands in the air and I sigh before running my hands through my hair.

  I shake my head and hug Maddie who scowls at Percy. I take the gun from her and hand it to Jake who chuckles at me.

  “Let’s go for a run to get some steam off,” Ivan says and I nod to him.

  I rush back to my room and pull my clothes off, the shift comes easily and I wag my tail once the shift is done.

  I gently nudge the door open, being careful not to push it the wrong
way otherwise I would get trapped in my room.

  Chapter Seventeen

  My paws fly across the ground, almost not touching as I race Reece who is enjoying his first real run as a werewolf.

  I bark at him as we jump over a fallen log, Percy knocks me to the ground and I tumble over. I leap to my feet and bark at him, my head ducks as I take his challenge.

  I jump over Ivan and let my tongue loll out at him, he huffs at me and meets my pace.

  I bounce around, forgetting the challenge. My mission to just be a child and fool around for a while.

  Maddie nips at my heels and I pounce on her, she mockingly growls before pinning me to the ground. I stay still for a second, she lets me go and I pounce on her again. She huffs at me as I nuzzle her neck.

  A growl makes me jump and I look up to see Percy staring at me. I race to him and he bats my head with his paw, telling me to calm down.

  I shrug and he motions behind him, I see a deer happily grazing and my wolf shoves me from the driver's seat in my mind.

  I follow Percy as the others go wide to create a net, me and Percy will be the ones to take the animal down while the others make sure it doesn’t get away from us.

  I see Jake wag his tail from the other side of the deer and Percy leaps. I dodge around as the deer runs to the right. I grab hold of its throat and use my body to drag it down. The others help give it a painless death.

  I look to my memories as the wolf digs in. I shiver as the wolf gives me back control after we have eaten.

  Jake bumps into me and I frown at him as he jumps around. I huff when I realise what he is trying to do.

  I race to Nat and bump her before darting away. We play for as long as our bodies will allow it. I yawn as we trot back to the house, I freeze as I smell fire.

  Smoke billows into the sky and I scent the air for hunters but the smell of smoke is too strong and I sneeze.

  Percy barks and we get into fighting formation, I stay next to Reece while Jake and Ivan stay behind us. Maddie and Nat are in the middle while Percy leads.

  We run towards the house but I know there is no saving it, the roof has already caved.
