The cops move on and start taking pictures of her injuries just as the doctor comes in. The cops finish what they are doing and allow the doctor to take over.

The cops leave but return five minutes later letting us know that the bastard is in custody. Cass sighs into the pillow and closes her eyes. “It’s over babe. You’ll never have to see him again.”

She keeps her eyes closed but her whole body relaxes. The doctor cleans the wound over Cassie’s tattoo and quickly stitches her up. Once she is finished being checked over the doctor allows her to shower and get cleaned up, letting us know Cass will be in overnight for observation before she shuffles out the door with our thanks following behind.

Her brothers come to check on her and Sean hands over her phone. They give me an update on what happened at the house before sneaking us in some dinner and finding out the score on the game I missed, and I must say, I’m proud of my boys for pulling it together without me and still managing the win, though I’ve trained them that way.

After refusing to leave her side, a nurse wheels in a bed and allows me to stay the night with her, even though we end up squished in the one bed with me holding her all night. Before we know it, the doctor is clearing her with instructions on keeping the wound clean and I’m driving her home.

I help Cass down from my truck but she insists on walking herself to the front door even though she hisses in pain with every step. I tried to get her to take some pain meds but she is far too stubborn for that.

She pushes the door open to find her home filled to the brim with her friends and family and I must admit, I’m shocked to see the whole hockey team here, even Coach Harris. I briefly wonder where the hell all their cars are but the thought is gone the second Brianna steps forward and wraps Cass in her arms.

“I’m so sorry,” she sobs. “It’s all my fault, if I’d been there it never would have happened.”

“Shhh,” Cass soothes. “It had nothing to do with you. He was a ticking time bomb and he took his opportunity, had it not been yesterday, it would have been today or the next day.”

Brianna nods as Bobby steps forward and wraps his arms around both the girls and gives a gentle squeeze. “I’m glad you’re ok,” he says to Cass, who gives him a bright smile.

One by one, everyone checks in her on until she starts to get exhausted and her brothers kick them all out, leaving just our close circle.

I take a seat on the lounge and Cass falls into my arms while Brianna does the same with Carter. Bobby scowls at them from across the room which has Cass grinning into my side.

Beers are opened and music is played until the late hours of the night. “You ready for bed?” I ask Cass as she starts yawning.

“Yeah,” she says getting up from the couch and saying goodnight to everyone.

I follow behind her and help her get dressed into her pyjamas. She climbs in bed and I slide in behind her. “I’m sorry this happened to you,” I tell her as she pulls me in closer.

“I know,” she sighs as she turns in my arms, “I will forever be thankful that you were there and I will spend every day of forever making it up to you. You saved me, Jax.”

I press my lips to hers, not sure if she is ready for this kind of connection but she moves her lips against mine. I gently pull back, not wanting to freak her out with too much too soon. I press my forehead to hers. “I love you, Cass,” I whisper into the night, “and no matter what, I will always be there to catch you.”

“I love you, too,” she replies before pressing her lips to mine once again and looping her arm around my neck to pull me in once again. “I can’t wait to watch you go pro and get everything you’ve always dreamed of.”

“That road goes both ways, babe.” I grin. “I want to see my ring on your finger with my baby in your guts,”

“Ugh,” she groans, “Do you have to put it that way?”

I smirk as I roll us over so I hover above her, being careful not to disrupt any of her injuries. “Yes,” I tell her. “Whether you like it or not, you’ll be my wife and we’re going to have a tribe of kids running around. We’ll have a beautiful home in the hills so we can be near your parents and you’ll have the stupid Great Dane you’ve always wanted.”

She grins up at me. “I want to call him Diesel and he will probably chew all your hockey gear.”

“He better not,” I warn her.

She shrugs but can’t help the giggle that slips out. “I freaking love you so much.”

  “I freaking love you, too.”

  Epilogue

  Cassie

We’re at the Frozen Four in New York as the final buzzer sounds. I’m already on my feet, screaming his name and cheering for the boys. Holy shit, Jaxon has just led his team to becoming the two time, undefeated, National Champions.

The mighty freaking Dragons skate around the ice like a bunch of animals. It’s not long before each and every one of them has lost their sticks, helmets, and gloves, and are in a pile on top of each other celebrating, though I’m pretty damn sure Jaxon is at the bottom of that pile but who cares, my man can handle anything.

Bobby breaks free from the pile and is at the barrier in the blink of an eye. Brianna cracks up beside me as she watches her twin brother grab their coach, mid-interview and throw him over his shoulder. He takes him toward the pile of champions and launches the old man on top, probably fracturing a few bones in the process but Coach doesn’t seem to mind.

Jax somehow gets free from the bottom of the pile and skates towards the edge so he can look up at the crowd to find me. A grin rips across both our faces, I circle my hands around my mouth and scream out, “I love you.”

He presses his fingers to his lips and raises his hand back to me ‘love you’ he mouths before a mischievous gleam twinkles in his blue eyes. He moves into the centre of the ice and turns to face the audience directly before holding both his hand up to the sky. The crowd roars for him as he takes his bow.

“God, that kid is a show-off,” Carter says from the seat behind me as Sean scoffs in agreement.

“Where do you think he gets it from?” I ask as I turn around and give Carter a pointed look.

“Pft, whatever,” Carter scoffs as he grabs Brianna from the row in front and drags her up into his arms, making sure to annoy me as much as possible in the process.

I turn my attention back to Jax and watch as a reporter with ESPN waves him down and he skates off to give the after game interview.

“Come on,” Logan says. “He is going to be a while now. We’ll meet him back at the hotel.”

I go along with the boys only because Jax had said exactly the same thing before the game and insisted I don’t wait around. I know for a fact he will call me from the locker room anyway, which makes it a little easier to leave.

Two hours later I stand in the hotel bathroom putting on mascara, contemplating how strange it feels to be back in New York when Jax comes flying through the door, looking as sexy as ever in his official team suit. He bypasses the bathroom as he looks for me then backtracks to find me in a slim black dress with the highest black strappy heels I could find.

He stands silently at the door of the bathroom, mentally undressing me. “Don’t even think about it,” I warn him. “It took way too long to get ready.”

He ignores me as he licks his lips. He slides his suit jacket down his arms, letting it fall in a heap at his feet. My eyes follow the movement as his hand moves to his tie and gives it a tug before raising over his head.

His eyes heat as he unbuttons his shirt and by this stage, I’m pressing my legs together, trying to relieve the throbbing between my legs. He steps towards me and my bottom lip instantly disappears between my teeth as a shiver takes over my skin.

His hand moves to his belt and with a quick flick, it’s discarded on the floor. I start to pant like a needy whore, desperate for his touch.

He takes one more step and he is finally there. He reaches for the hem of my dress and bunches it up and over my head, lea
ving me in nothing but my black heels and black underwear. He groans at the sight which has the wetness doubling between my legs.

Jax takes hold of the lacy black fabric of my panties and tears it off my body. Shit, that was hot, I don’t even have time to waste thinking about another pair of lost black panties.

He unzips his pants and pulls himself free before grabbing my ass and lifting me. My legs twine around his waist as he slams my back into the glass wall of the shower, burying himself deep inside me in the same instance.

“Fuck,” I groan as that instant relief washes over me, that is until he moves and man, does he move.

I come hard just as he does and we both collapse to the bathroom floor, me sitting around his waist with his cock still buried inside me. “You’re so fucking beautiful,” he pants.

“You’re not so bad yourself, Captain,” I tell him. He smirks at my attitude and crashes his lips to mine, hard and passionate at first before changing to something more deep and emotional.

He pulls back and looks me meaningfully in the eye. “I love you,” he tells me, “I was going to wait to do this to make it special for you but nothing is better than this moment right now.”

I look to him in confusion as he reaches back across the bathroom floor and pulls his pants towards us. He searches through the pocket before pulling out that familiar little black box. Understanding dawns on me instantly as he presents me with the box and opens it to reveal the beautiful ring within.

My eyes fill with tears of joy as I wait to hear what he has to say. “I was going to take you to dinner tonight with your family and Bri but right here, just you and me, this feels right,” he says as he looks me in the eye. “You’ve been my girl since I was 12 years old and I feel as though I fall more deeply in love with you each and every day.”

“We’ve been through every single up and down known to man and yet somehow we always come out stronger.” He takes a breath and makes sure I’m truly hearing him. “Cassandra Waters, I love you and I can’t wait to make you my wife. Will you marry me?”

The tears stream down my face as I throw myself into him, crashing my lips to his. “Yes,” I say through our kiss, “Yes, of course, I’ll marry you.”

I feel his smile against my lips and I feel as though I am on cloud nine. Could it be possible that every single dream of mine is coming true?

I have the greatest love known to man and just agreed to marry him, I’m graduating in a few weeks with Sport Physio jobs lined up in all the cities I think Jax could possibly get signed, I have the best friends and family and what’s best is after three years of pain, I am finally happy.

Jax picks us up off the floor and takes up to the bed where he proceeds to make the sweetest love to me until Logan comes banging at the door.

We’re at dinner when Jax announces that he has asked me to marry him, the table goes nuts and bottles of wine are ordered. The majority of his teammates are in the same restaurant so it turns into one hell of a party.

I’m walking back from the bathroom when Jax grabs me around the waist and pulls me down onto his lap. My arm instantly falls behind his neck as my nails run along his scalp. “I signed with the pros,” he tells me.

My head whips in his direction. “What?” I screech.

He smirks up at me. “You heard me.” He says, “Bobby too.”

I ignore his smart-ass remarks as I push for information, “Which team?” I ask, mentally reminding myself to come back to the whole Bobby thing later.

His smile turns from a smirk into an adoring grin. “You know that big house in the hills we talked about?”

  “Yeah?” I prompt.

  “It’s all yours, baby.”

“What?” I practically sing “Denver? You signed with Denver?”

He smirks but a voice from across the table steals our attention. “Get fucked,” Logan curses. “You’re not on my team, are you?”

“You better watch your back, Logan,” Jax tells him. “Denver has a new star player now.”

  The end.

  Sneak Peek

Xander – Kings of Denver (Book 3)

  Chapter 1

  Xander

New year, new me. Yeah, fucking right! It’s my Junior year of college and my dick of a father has just pulled every damn string to get me transferred to the Denver University, just so I can be a part of the same damn hockey team that he was part of. How fucking great for me.

I get it though, he was a Dragons player, the captain in his senior year and got himself a one-way ticket into the NHL. I can’t blame him for wanting the same for me, the only problem is that any other option simply just isn’t an option. It’s get into the NHL just like my father did so he can show off how talented his son is and what a great job of raising me he did or suffer the consequences, which consists of being cut off, lose my trust fund, lose my living arrangements and pretty much lose everything I hold close to me. I’d be homeless, a bum, a nothing.

And what does my mother do about it? Nothing.

  Great fucking parents I have.

So, what do I do? I skate. Day in and day out. Though not to toot my own horn or anything, I’m pretty damn good, actually, apart from Jaxon and Bobby, I’d be the best. Just the way my father ensured I would be. Hell, I was only eleven when he set me up with a damn Personal Trainer. But seriously? What kind of eleven-year-old kid should be sweating it out in a gym with a trainer?

I’ve only been here in Denver a few weeks and I can already see it in Coach Harris’ eyes. He wants to offer me the role of Captain for next year, though obviously, it’s way too early to be thinking about that shit. If only that’s what I actually wanted.

Coach Harris knows exactly who I am and who my father is and I know without a doubt, he expects me to be just like him. The shining star, the golden boy, the kid who is going to lead the dragons to victory next year but if I get a say in it, it isn’t going to happen. It’s not who I am, not who I want to be.

My blades cut through the ice as we finish off our morning training session and I must admit, I’m already exhausted. Jaxon, this year’s captain has us up early every freaking morning running and then working out in a field before we head to classes or to our on-ice training sessions, not to mention all the added gym time we have to be doing. My last team was nothing like this. We showed up for training, worked our asses off and went home. It’s no surprise Dad wanted me here, especially after their epic win last year.

Though, in all honesty, Jaxon is a great captain and I have no doubt we will be Champions come the end of the season. Coach and Jaxon together are a deadly team, it’s admirable really. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy but every player on this team, come their senior year will have the eyes of every scout across the country on them.

Being a part of this team sure has its perks though. Everywhere I go, whether it be to Micky’s, a club, a house or frat party, there is a line-up of chicks just wanting to get with me just for the label of being on the Dragon’s hockey team. Drinks are thrown my way, dudes want to be me while chicks want to be with me. No matter how the season goes, it’s going to be an epic year.

I hop off the ice, dripping with sweat as I make my way down to the locker room. “Good job, boys,” Jaxon says, clapping me on the back as he passes and takes his seat. We all murmur a ‘thanks’ as we get started on stripping off our Hockey gear.

Moments later, after throwing my skates into my bag, I grab a towel from my locker and head into the showers. I pull off my sweaty shirt and drop my pants before reaching in and turning the taps. I step straight into the cool water and an instant relief comes over my sore muscles. My eyes close for a brief moment before I pull my shit together and get my ass out of there.

I grab my bag and head out of the locker room without a glance back. “Hey, kid,” I hear being called from behind me.

I turn and find Coach Harris jogging to catch up. “What’s up, Coach?” I ask as he finally catches up.

  “Just wanted to check how
you’re settling in?” He asks.

“Oh, fine, I guess,” I respond, wanting to cut the conversation short and get going.

“Good,” he says with a slight nod. “How’s your independent training going? I’ve noticed you don’t have many hours logged in the campus gym.”

Shit. I should have known he would have been checking up on this shit. “Yeah, about that, I actually prefer not to train in campus gyms,” I explain.

“Right,” he says narrowing his eyes on me suspiciously, “But the training is still getting done?”

  “Yes, coach,” I nod.

I see the moment he decided to give me the benefit of the doubt, after all he has no reason not to trust me. If only he knew. “Alright, but if you start to slacken off on the ice, you’ll be back in the campus gym where the other boys can keep an eye on you.”

“Thanks, boss,” I say, giving him a tight smile.

His lips press together as he continues studying me, “Get out of here,” he finally says, dismissing me.

With pleasure. I tighten my hold on my bag and get my ass out of there before anyone else decides they want a moment of my time. I throw my bag into the back of my truck and get in.

I take myself home, to the place my Dad currently rents off the University for me. I push through the door, thankful for my Dad’s strict rules about not having roommates to distract me from my goal.

I immediately collapse on my bed and fall into a deep sleep. I wake a few hours later and head downstairs to fix myself some lunch before realising I’m almost late for my Business lecture.

I grab my things and dash out the door, only to sit through a deathly boring lecture. I return home not long after and head straight for my garage. I push through the door and enter into what I now consider my personal gym. My eyes lock onto the punching bag in the corner and a desperate need comes through me, there is nothing quite like throwing a good punch but I know I shouldn’t. I need to concentrate on hockey training.
