"I don't understand," Nicole stammered. "You're giving up?" she paused, mentally moving the suitcases inside her apartment. "I win?"
Jill straightened her shoulders, feeling her throat return to normal. The constriction was gone, as was any urge to sneeze. "I guess that depends on just what you think you've won," she answered, and knowing that Nicole's eyes were watching her, turned and strode quickly back toward the elevators, confident for the first time in many months that she was not about to trip and fall.
