An annoyed patience made its way into his voice. “Eve. Retire to your chambers for the evening. I can and will make you. Understand?”
Her lips set in a strong line, and the mood in her eyes became hard. She understood. She knew he would do it. She had already been embarrassed once tonight; he was sure she had no desire for a repeat performance. Her crossed arms shot apart and flew ramrod straight down to her sides. She turned her back on him and stomped her feet down the hall – like a spoiled child – around the corner, and then her footfalls thundered up the stairs.
He turned to his mother and stepfather. “Now go. Don’t let a rotten tart ruin your evening. I’ll take care of her.”
