  Her hand tightened around his arm. “I like the sound of that.”

  The four of them made their way over to a stand of idling steam cabs, and walked to the front of the line. Edgar held open the rear doors for Molly, Ada, and Max. He gave the driver the Burgess family address, then slid in after them. “So you just set your wedding date?” Ada said.

  She didn’t miss much. “Yes,” Edgar replied.

  “Has anyone in this family ever not been impulsive?” she said. Despite her words, she smiled at Max and squeezed his hand.

  “I don’t think so,” Edgar said.

  Molly laughed. “I hope not.”

  Something clanked in the steam cab, and it lurched into motion, taking them through Brooklyn’s familiar streets, back to home.
