‘More or less,’ said Eddie.
And the professional pulled the trigger.
There was a bang. Then Seaton twitched and sighed, and he leaned back against the door, with a small red hole in the centre of his forehead. The windscreen wipers swished, the deejay spoke of Dr Pepper and Saturday night dances. Blood flowed, and Eddie stepped outside into the wet.
Shivering, he turned up his overcoat collar. As soon as he felt the open air, he realised that he was hungry, had been hungry for a very long time. So he tucked his suitcase under his arm and set off into town, to find himself some food.
