Masters of Eden

Armed, they continued their journey. The alien with mating on its mind proved to be in nearby quarters. It was looking at a screen, upon which several alien figures were moving against one another, quite without any form of clothing.

  “Alien porn,” Mixer whisper-snorted.

The sound was enough to alert the alien; it turned its oversized head in their direction and emitted a scream for help without so much as opening its mouth.

“Shut it!” Mixer discharged his weapon at it. A bolt of energy hit the alien, vaporizing it where it stood. Where once there had been an alien, there was only a small pile of ash, barely enough to fill an ash tray.

“Oops,” he said. “This dial… er… I guess it’s set a little high.”

The sound of other energy weapons discharging behind them sent the threesome into the alien’s freshly vacated quarters. Eden took refuge behind a bed, Ghost next to her. Mixer crouched down behind the porn.

The final two aliens burst into the room. Their expressions were as dour as ever, but their thoughts were racing, their intentions as violent as they were afraid.

  “They killed Quen-I!”

“Kill them! Kill them with death!”

Mixer was not of a mind to be killed with death. Before either alien could discharge their weapons, he had fired twice, making contact in quick succession. Both aliens were dust before Ghost could so much as object. Afterward, there was plenty of time for objection. He used it.

“I told you not to kill them!”

“You know what? There wasn’t the time to take this weapon to a range and calibrate it,” Mixer said, unapologetic. “I worked with what I had. If they didn’t want to die, they shouldn’t have imprisoned us.”

Ghost did not stay angry for long. Eden was not angry at all; she quite agreed with Mixer. The aliens had been exceptionally hostile to all of them, and they deserved to no longer exist.

“Let’s see how this thing flies,” Mixer suggested.

“If you fly this the way you used that weapon, none of us will get off this ship alive.”

“I’ll be careful,” Mixer promised his superior officer. He gave Eden a little wink, which made her giggle. Her spirits had never been so high. They were safe. And they had a means of transport.

“We’ll all three make it,” Mixer promised.

  “All four,” she corrected him.

“Four?” Mixer scowled. “Is there another alien on this ship?”

“There’s one in here. I mean, not an alien…” Eden rubbed her belly and smiled.

For a second, Mixer’s only expression was one of shock. He walked toward her, his eyes wide, his mouth partway open. Then, when he was close enough, he wrapped her in the tightest hug she’d ever experienced.

  “You’re happy?”

“Damn right I’m happy,” he said, pressing kisses to her cheeks. “We’re going to be fathers.”

“Never picked you for the daddy type,” Ghost drawled, smiling.

“Our little space baby,” Mixer said, smiling broadly. “We can start a dynasty. We can colonize a planet. We can…”

“How about we escape this one, before you decide to take over the galaxy,” Ghost said, his influence calming and grounding as always.

“She’ll need medical care,” Mixer said, still holding Eden close.

  “You’re a doctor.”

“That’s right,” Mixer agreed, grinning like an idiot. “I am a doctor.” He handed Eden to Ghost carefully, carrying her across the space as if she were a very precious artifact. “Take care of her,” he said. “I’ll get the ship running.”

“Where will we go?” Eden pressed happily against Ghost.

“Wherever we like.” Ghost dropped a kiss on the top of her head.

  “But the Alliance…”

“We’ve left Alliance space behind, and we’re going to go deeper. Much deeper. It’s obvious that this ship is more powerful and advanced than the one we landed. These aliens handed us a ticket to the universe. And we’re going to take it.”

What Ghost was talking about was more freedom than Eden could ever have imagined; the freedom to travel beyond the paths of stars so familiar to their instruments and discover not just new worlds, but the places where those worlds were born. Who knew what might await their growing family? Adventure, likely danger, but more than that, love and freedom of the kind that made any hardships they might encounter pale in comparison.

“Come along,” Ghost said. “Let’s make sure Mixer doesn’t fly this thing into the sun.”

Eden took his hand and followed him into the future.

  The Lord’s Bride

When Mary de Vere’s closest companion Martin de Stafford—whom she secretly loves—is stolen from her by his long-promised marriage to another woman, eighteen-year-old Mary believes things can get no worse… until an assassin’s blade takes her father’s life. The laws of the land place her under the authority of her heartless uncle, but even as her world falls apart around her, Mary vows to one day reclaim her rights and her title.

Years later, Martin, now the Sheriff of Staffordshire and a widower since illness claimed his wife, encounters his childhood friend in the unlikeliest of places: a convent. Though Mary plays the part of a simple woman who dreams of becoming a nun, Martin is far from convinced. He knows the feisty girl far too well to believe that she aspires to a life of service in the church, and in any case, he has another future to offer her—a future as his wife.

When she spurns his affections, Martin only grows more determined to unravel her plot, and at last Mary is caught red-handed in an act of banditry. To save herself from the dungeon, she is left with no choice but to submit to the very thing she once longed for: marriage to Martin de Stafford. Mary soon learns that her new husband is more than her match and that from now on her bare bottom will pay the price for her scheming. In spite of her pride, Martin’s firm chastisement enflames her lust for him, but can she truly force herself to put aside the wrongs of the past and lay claim to a life at the side of the man she always wanted?

The Brat, the Bodyguard, and the Bounty Hunter

When runaway heiress Fiona Fayrefield hires bodyguard Harris Kingsley to protect her from her meddlesome father, Harris decides that his job includes putting the spoiled twenty-four-year-old brat over his knee for a long, hard spanking when he feels it necessary. For the first time in her life, Fiona discovers that doing whatever she wants, whenever she wants, is no longer an option.

After her father sends ex-military bounty hunter Tom Waters to bring her home, events take an unexpected turn and the two men soon join forces to protect Fiona, to tame her rebellious ways, and to bring her more pleasure than she ever imagined possible. But when they learn that she has more skeletons in her closet than they were counting on, will her fortune come between Fiona and the loves of her life?

  Mail Order Brat

Soon after leaving her native Russia to marry an American, Annika discovers that her husband-to-be is a liar and a cheat. Rather than return home, she runs away
and begins living on the streets. When she is caught by Pastor Steven Soames while breaking into his car looking for a place to sleep, she expects the worst—arrest and deportation—but instead the handsome preacher invites her to his house for a warm meal.

Steven’s kindness impresses Annika and she is excited when he offers to let her stay in the guestroom at the parsonage in the little town of Sweetville, even after he informs her that while under his roof proper behavior will be expected and defiance will earn her a sound spanking.

Though Steven is a widower and he’s never been interested in another woman since his wife’s passing, and despite Annika’s penchant for flagrant disobedience—something Steven knows will need to be cured with a firm hand applied to her bare bottom—the small-town preacher and the feisty Russian brat soon find themselves falling in love.

But when Steven proposes, Annika cannot help but worry that he is only offering marriage out of pity in order to let her stay in America. Can she bring herself to put aside her fears and trust the man who has claimed her heart?

  The Barbarian’s Bride

After she is kidnapped by her father’s enemies and sold to the barbarian chief Rikiar, Princess Aisling finds that life as a barbarian’s bride is quite different than the one to which she was previously accustomed. To her dismay, the once pampered princess soon learns that the barbarian chief is not to be trifled with and any disobedience will earn her a sound spanking on her bare bottom.

Her days are certainly less boring than when she was cooped up behind castle walls, and since her warrior husband’s fierce lovemaking is beyond anything the virgin princess ever imagined, her nights are far more exciting as well. Though much is expected of her—she must both satisfy Rikiar’s voracious appetites in the bedroom and train to wield a sword—Aisling perseveres and before long she feels a strength growing in her heart which makes her proud.

But when Aisling’s father demands her return and wages war against Rikiar and his people, she fears for Rikiar’s life. Can she trust her judgment and her courage to protect her newfound people, save her husband, and safeguard their love from those who wish to destroy it?
