You’re going to look so pretty for Mimi, and Aunt Claudia and Aunt Gianna, Uncle Gianni, and cousin RJ.” Stevie raises Audie over her head joyously, her long, platinum hair glowing in sun’s golden rays. She really is an angel, even if she doesn’t believe it. She’s my spiritual being.
Technically, Audie’s first birthday was three weeks ago, but she came down with an ear infection, so we pushed the party back until today. It’s going to be a celebration of many kinds. Birth, death, new beginnings, love.
I help Stevie to stand while she holds on to Audie tightly. She barely lets go of our little girl. Arm in arm, we both take one last look at the cross in the ground. I kiss her head, and she leans into me, Audie anchored securely between us on her hip.

I’m writing this at midnight, so please ignore the typos! This book! Jesus, this book. It became so much more than I ever anticipated! It was just supposed to be this fast paced, sexy suspense novel. And wow, that just didn’t end up happening. It all changed when I really discovered who Baz was. No, not the head of the family or Benny’s son. I always knew that, but the scene with the gun. I dreamt about it. I woke up and my heart was pounding. It felt so crazy real. And it was entirely him. Everything changed from there. Most of the plotline, characters, everything. The story become this whole Broadway production and I only had a month to really pull it together. I was stressing, no lie. I almost pushed the release date back, but somehow I pulled through. Stevie became an everywoman to me. She has been through so much and survived. Baz called her an angel, but I see her as a Phoenix. She can rise from the ashes, and be stronger than she was before. It’s what I believe every woman is capable of.
My biggest thanks goes to the army who supports me. My editor, proofreaders and formatter were so understanding and willing to work with my craziness toward the closing of release. Without their patience, I don’t know what I would have done.
