“Either way, you get in the car. What state you’re in when you get in it, is up to you.” My fingers pulled her panties to the side, and I glided through her wetness. “I knew you’d be dripping.”

“You can’t do that to me here.” Her eyes were wide with alarm even as a moan slipped out as I rubbed her clit slowly.

“You going to get in the car?” I asked as I nipped her neck, my thumb rubbing in slow circles over her as I traced along her pulse with the tip of my tongue, slipping two fingers inside her.

Her head tipped back to rest on my shoulder as I continued to stroke her, watching her as her breathing increased, her face flushed with desire, and her eyes closed as she submitted to the pleasure I was giving her. “Yes,” she breathed, and I knew she didn’t have a fucking clue what she was agreeing to.

Abruptly, I removed my hand, ignoring her cry of protest and stepped back. “Let’s go.”

The crashing realisation of what she had been allowing to happen to her was fascinating to watch. Angry tears spilled over as she tried to avoid my watchful gaze as she hurriedly zipped up her jeans and straightened her jacket. I watched as she tested her arm, stretching it to release the soreness from my hold. Through it all, I waited patiently until she stilled her movements, and I watched with immense pleasure when her eyes widened and her pupils dilated as I slowly sucked the taste of her off my fingers.

“I fucking hate you,” Devon whispered heatedly in the quietness of the night.

“Tell that to your pussy.” I snorted at her look of fury. “I’ve spent too much time here. You need a restroom?”

“Yes,” she said, her voice tight with anger and her cheeks heated as she avoided my gaze.

Five minutes later, we were both in a disabled stall, much to her outrage. “What? Did you think I was letting you out of my sight?”

“I need to clean up,” Devon grumbled as she glared at the floor. “And pee.”

  “I’m not stopping you.”

“Stand outside!” she hissed at me.

  “You’re wasting time.”

Angrily she pushed her jeans down her legs and then her panties and hovered over the toilet seat. Grinning, I gave her my back as I heard her release her bladder. I heard her rip the paper sheets from the dispenser, and then she was flushing the toilet. When I turned back, she already had her jeans up and was buttoning them.

  “You’re a pervert.”

“Thanks.” I walked over to the bowl and unzipped. I ignored Devon’s cry as I snatched her arm, bringing her close as I took a piss. She wasn’t getting to run when I was incapacitated. When I finished, I grinned as I realised she had her head turned and her eyes closed. “Didn’t think you would be so delicate.”

“I’m not,” she said as she rubbed her arm. “I just didn’t want to embarrass you with your tiny dick.”

“Tiny?” I questioned as I washed my hands.

“Well, you only need one hand to hold it.”

  “Have you ever had sex?”

“What?” She looked completely bewildered at my question.

“Never mind.” I shook my head as I tossed the paper towel in the bin. “Let’s go.”

Devon took a step in front of me to leave and gasped when I suddenly pulled her back into me. Gently, I took her hand and guided it to the front of my slacks. “Do I feel tiny?” I asked softly, my smile growing as her hand stroked over me a few times.

“Average,” she sniffed as she pulled away from me. I laughed out loud as she flung the bathroom door open. Grinning, I ignored her look of surprise at my smile, and taking her arm, I guided her to the car.

As we drove away, I looked over at her as she stared sullenly out of the window. “Get some sleep. It’s a long drive back.”

“I spent all my money on that ticket, and I didn’t even get out of the bus station.” Devon looked at the station with remorse.

“If you’re going to run, Devon, keep running. You never know who’s chasing you.”

“I know who it is,” she said as she turned to face me. “It’s you.”

“So, you waited to be caught?” I grunted as I turned onto the main street. “Then you should have saved your money instead of throwing it away.”

“You’re such a cocky bastard,” she muttered as she rested her head against the seat.

“You also think I’m a stupid bastard,” I told her as I watched her out the corner of my eye. “If you think I believe I’m the only thing you’re running from…you’re an idiot.”

“Where I go and who I am is none of your business, Raphe.” Her eyes remained closed, but I saw her hands tighten.

“And that’s one of the many mistakes you made today.”

“Really?” She turned her head to look at me with defeated humour. “What were the others?”

“Thinking I would let you go, for one.” I stopped at lights and glanced her way. “Thinking that you could leave on your own terms, thinking you were free.”

“Is that all?” she asked sardonically.

“No.” I felt the smile hover as I drove the car.

“Well? Tell me.” Devon’s attention was fully on me now, her eyes narrowed with impatience.

“Grinding your ass into me as I slipped my fingers inside you. You’re eager to be fucked, Devon. You keep moaning my name like that, I’m going to spread you wide and fuck you like your body’s begging me to.”

“I thought you didn’t fuck vermin.”

“The taste of that pussy, I may make an exception,” I told her casually as I pulled up at another set of lights. I looked over at her in her seat, her face half illuminated with the streetlights, her eyes wide on mine. “Be very careful what you wish for.”

He drove in silence, he didn’t even put the radio on. Who drove across the country in silence? My body was still battling itself, trying to overcome the throbbing between my legs caused because he pulled away from me when I was so close. Part of me wanted to ignore it, the other part of me, the throbbing part of me, wanted to climb over the centre console and fit myself into his lap and free that very non-tiny dick in his pants.

He had no boundaries. He didn’t respect other people’s either. I should have screamed or struggled at the very least when he manhandled me. I had been so surprised to see him I hadn’t even thought to run until it was too late. Then he had thrown me a complete curve ball when he had made a sexual advance towards me. A sexual advance? I fought to stop my snort. He owned my ass and handed it to me with a cocky grin as he flipped me the fucking finger as he licked his fingers clean.

My stomach tightened as I recalled the way his tongue traced over his long fingers as he stared straight at me. How did he become Mr Sexy Hotness from Mr Intimidation? I preferred him as scary threatening guy, I did not need him to confuse me with his soft clever touch. I didn’t want to be panting under him like a bitch in heat.

I shifted in my seat again, pointedly ignoring his smug look of satisfaction. He knew exactly what was wrong with me and was enjoying my discomfort. He hadn’t even let me pee in peace. I could have finished myself off quickly while in the privacy of the bathroom. Instead, he had denied me that pleasure as well.

My stomach growled as we drove, and I tried to hide my embarrassment. Raphe glanced at me and then down at my belly.

“You didn’t eat?” He looked pissed off again.

  “No, no time.”

“What, over thirteen hours on a bus took too much of your time?”

“Sarcasm doesn’t suit you,” I bit back.

Raphe ignored me as he swerved off to the side of the road quickly. After he snatched the key out of the ignition, I tensed when he exited the car and stormed to the back. Instead of throwing my door open, as I had suspected, he opened the trunk. A few moments later, he dropped two protein bars, a bag of chips and a warm bottle of water in my lap.

“It’s all I have, it’ll do.” He started driving again as I stared at the food in my lap. Slowly I opened the protein bar and took a bite. Within m
inutes, it was gone as I ate my way through his bag of chips.

“No oranges?” I quipped, desperate to ease the silence. I saw him smirk, but he said nothing. Holding out the second protein bar, I offered it to him. “You want it?” Cold blue eyes met mine as he lifted an eyebrow. “The bar, I mean.”

  “No.”

“Did you eat?” I asked as I unwrapped the snack and took a bite.

  “No.”

“You have anything to say other than no?” I snarked at him.

  “No.”

I couldn’t stop the smile, and I turned in my seat to face him. “I could ask you questions?”

His eyes flicked to mine, and I saw him shake his head. “No.”

“I knew you were going to say that,” I mocked him as I took in his profile. He really was an exceptionally good-looking man; it was a true shame he was such a scary asshole. “Do you have a wife?” I almost felt the eye roll. “Just answer,” I grumbled.

  “No.”

  “You don’t have a wife?” I pressed.

  “No.”

“Would you tell me if you did?” I asked suspiciously.

  “No.”

“You’re such an asshole, Raphe.” I turned back to face the front. “You came all this way to drag me back to the penthouse and you won’t speak to me? I don’t understand you. At all.” I sat and stewed for a while longer. “Do you think I will rat you out?” I asked quietly as the clock clicked past five in the morning.

  “No.”

I looked over at him in surprise. “Then why did you chase me?”

  “Why did you run?”

“You didn’t say no,” I teased him. His hard stare caused me to flinch. “You scare me.”

  “Liar.”

“You have to stop calling me a liar,” I snapped angrily.

  “Stop lying and I will.”

“Are you going to kill me?”

  “No.”

“Oh.” I shuffled in my seat. “Then why am I being taken back?”

  “Who are you running from?”

  “You.”

  “Try again.”

“You’re so sure I have something to hide.” I shook my head. “Why?”

“Everyone has something to hide.” Raphe rubbed his neck as he spoke, his fingers scratching over his shoulder at his back.

  “Your scratches healing?”

Cool eyes met mine with amusement. “Jealous?”

“No.” I stared out the passenger window onto the dark road. “You’re a complete dick though,” I muttered.

“Probably.” Another glance at me as he drove. “What for this time?”

“Trying to sleep with me when you had someone else’s marks on you.” Whoa, Devon, what the actual hell?

“Sleep with you?” his voice was heavy with amusement.

  “You know what I mean.”

  “No. Tell me.”

I glared at him. “You just like making me uncomfortable,” I grumbled. “Just forget it.”

We drove for another two hours in silence, and I suspected that it had been his plan all along. However, I couldn’t start the conversation again. He was a tenacious shit, he would just start off where we had stopped. My eyes drooped closed as I realised he was too smart for me. I needed to outsmart him, and I wasn’t sure that I could.

The sun had risen when I opened my eyes, and I looked out over the fields of Kansas. The land was flat, and I could only imagine he was bored out of his mind. Or exhausted.

“You drove all night,” I said softly.

“Your skills of observation continue to astound me.”

“God, why are you such a fucking asshole?” I cried in frustration. “I’m trying to be nice to you, dickhead.”

“Hmm.” Raphe checked his rearview mirror. “Your social skills are lacking.”

“How much longer before we’re back?” I demanded. “What happens next? Are you going to lock me up again?” I was so focused on him I didn’t even notice we had pulled into a parking lot until Raphe turned the engine off. “What are you doing?” I asked as I looked around wildly.

“Getting breakfast. You can come with me or stay there and ask pointless questions.” He slammed the door behind him as he got out and then was opening my door as he waited for me to get my wits together. As I got out and stood beside him, he took my arm as he led me across the parking lot to the diner. “You say nothing except to order your food. Don’t engage with anyone. You can use the bathroom on your own, scratch that itch out if you need to, but don’t take too long.”

“What if I stab you with a freaking steak knife?” I growled at him angrily.

“Aim for the heart or the jugular. I advise you not to miss.” The pleasantness he met the waitress with made me want to stab him anyway.

When we were seated, with Raphe beside me in the booth, I again bit my tongue from the easy relaxed way he spoke to the server. Was I a leper? I had never once received that easy smile. It made him look normal. He was so full of shit.

“What can I get you?” The woman looked at me, her pad and pen ready to take my order.

“The breakfast is fine,” I answered. I hadn’t looked at the menu, and I realised that as I saw her frown. Grabbing the menu again, I read out the first breakfast I saw, and she nodded as she then asked me if I wanted fried or poached, bacon or sausage, white or brown toast. When I finished twenty questions, I realised I was looking forward to my food.

“No steak?” Raphe asked me as he took a sip of his water.

“You’re hilarious,” I grumbled as I tried to move away from him.

“You seem…tense?” His hand travelled over my thigh, and I clenched my legs together tightly.

“Don’t you dare,” I hissed as my hand dropped under the table, pulling at his in order to remove it from my leg.

“Maybe you should have your bathroom break now?” His look was rich with laughter, and I knew I was going to hit him. Raphe obviously did too, because his arm slipped around my shoulders as he pulled me into his body. “You make a scene and I don’t care how many people are in here, I will kick your ass.”

“Kick my ass?” I said in disbelief.

A slow sensual smile curved his lips upward, and he leaned into me. “Would you prefer I spank it?”

What did it say about me that my belly somersaulted at the unspoken promise in his eyes? “Touch me and I’ll carve your heart out with a spoon,” I hissed as I pushed him away from me.

Raphe stood fluidly, and I inwardly flinched as he turned to me. “Go to the bathroom, Devon. Release your tension, and come back in a better mood.”

“You think I’m horny?” I whispered in disbelief as I rose. I did need to pee.

“I know you are, you’ve been squirming in your seat for hours. Now go take care of the problem.”

Storming past him, I ignored his chuckle as he sat back down. Asshole. In the bathroom, I washed my hands angrily as I forced myself to calm down. He infuriated me to the point of breaking. He was also right, I was in need of finishing. His fingers were all I could think about. What the hell was that? I was twenty-six years old, I hadn’t had sex in years, I hadn’t even thought about having sex, but put me in the same room as that bastard out there and it was all I could think about.

Going into the cubicle, I relieved my bladder and then went outside and washed my hands again before glancing at the other stalls. There were a few people in the diner, and only the waitress was female. I had time. Privacy almost. Biting my lip, I judged myself for actually thinking about it.

The choice was taken from me as Raphe opened the bathroom door, a knowing smirk on his face as he came in and clicked the lock shut. I said nothing as he nodded towards the stall I had come out of, and I realised I was already heading back in when I felt his heat behind me. Quickly, methodically, he unzipped my jeans, and then his hand was inside my panties, his fingers stroking over me as I groaned in pleasure. His fingers were strong and sure as he held my stare, his blue eyes holding mine exact
ly as I had imagined him when I pleasured myself. All too soon, I was biting the back of my hand as I grabbed onto his shoulder as he gave me that much needed release, my eyes squeezing shut as my body clenched around him.

Raphe withdrew his fingers, and then without a word, he left me in the stall. I heard him wash his hands, and then I heard him unlock the door as he left me.

He hadn’t said a word. He had finger fucked me as easily as the waitress had offered me breakfast options. God, I was humiliated. I was disgusted with myself, but I couldn’t deny I felt better.

Carefully, I made my way back to the table. The food had arrived, and Raphe stood to let me in before he retook his seat and resumed eating his food. Hesitantly, I picked up my fork, and then I was too busy eating my own breakfast to think about any awkwardness. As the waitress refilled my coffee, I felt his heavy stare on me.

“Better?” he asked me as he took a drink of coffee.

  “Yes, I was hungry.”

“You were indeed.” His smirk made my cheeks redden.

“You could be a gentleman and never mention it.” I heard the plea in my voice.

Raphe’s arctic stare caused me to redden even more. “I’ve never been a gentleman,” he told me with a sly look.

  “Well, it won’t happen again.”

He said nothing as he finished his coffee. “Ready to go?”

  “Yes.”

As we got back into the car, I glanced at him. “Jimmy’s dead isn’t he?”

Raphe was still for a moment, and then he looked at me, his eyes devoid of emotion. “He is.”

  “Did you kill him?”

  “No.”

“But you made sure he was?”

  “Yes.”

“Why?” I wouldn’t be able to stop the tears once they started, so I fought them.

“Because loose ends talk.” Raphe turned away from me and started the car. “And I know I’m not the only one you’re running from, Devon.”

The remaining drive to Denver was in silence. I was too afraid to ask any more questions. He knew exactly what power he had over me, and it filled me with new fear that he would relish exploiting it.

I stared at the house in confusion. What was this? As I glanced at Raphe, he locked the car as he made his way to the sidewalk. “Who lives here?” I asked quietly when he hooked my arm and started leading me into the small yard.
