Another day, another eight hours at the grind.
That’s what was going through Jackie’s mind as she sat at her desk, and it was already proving to be a pretty boring day. She wanted nothing more than to head back home, but there were a few things that she wanted more than anything. One of them was her boss.

“Oi! get started with the stuff Jackie,” a familiar voice said with a jocular tone to it.
She whipped her head around. It was Lila, her friend and fellow graphic designer. She and Lila actually had a bond that was a bit deeper than the average working relationship. They had gone to college together, and got hired around the same time.
Lila was married with kids though, and she was the type of woman who would be more of a guiding force to Jackie. Even though they were both 24, they had already had different lives, with hers being the type that settles down, while Jackie was still trying to figure out for herself what to do next
“I’m trying. Just have a lot to think about,” she admitted.
“Oh? Like what? Don’t tell me you’re thinking about prince charming again,” she said.
“Maybe I am. Why the hell do you care?” she asked.
Lila came over, standing across from Jackie and smirking.
“Because I think it might be best if you just wait. I know that he’s hot. Trust me, if I didn’t have Rick, I would be all over that man. But I know my limits, and I know that it’s best if you take something like that slowly.
You don’t want to scare him off, but you also don’t want to wait forever. Just wait, because I have a good feeling about this,” she said.
Jackie sighed. She had already waited for so long though. But he wasn’t the type of guy who would look at her and see that she had something interesting, in fact she looked pretty normal.
She had brown hair that was almost constantly in a ponytail, hazel eyes, and she had glasses perched on her frame. It was obvious that she probably just come off as a nerd who knew her way around the different graphic design tools and could make pretty stuff.
It annoyed her to think that it was going that way, but she knew that deep down, it was the way life went. She knew that she was probably the last girl he would ask out, or at least the last of the girls in the office.
“Well don’t worry about that. I would imagine that he’ll come to you in due time. But we have a day to get started, and yo
u have a lot to take on. Just work with that, and you’ll be fine,” Lila said with reassurance.
Yeah, Jackie would try. But the rest of the day consisted of him invading her thoughts. Honestly, it was so annoying. But was he invading her thoughts because there was something that he wanted to tell her?
Maybe, or maybe she was putting too much effort into trying to attain something that she didn’t really need at the moment. She wanted a boyfriend, she didn’t need a boyfriend.
But still, it bothered her to no end that all of these girls were hooking up with these awesome dudes in life, and she couldn’t even manage to nab one of them. Maybe it’s because she was shy, but it was getting to her.
On another floor though, at the top of the giant corporation that Brandon worked as the CEO in, he was having a meltdown.

His secretary Ruby quit the morning that he received this news. It devastated him, and he already felt his heart sinking at the feeling of this. He didn’t want to have to figure out his plan for that evening again.
Ruby was going to come with him to this event, but now that it was out of the question, he would have to just figure it out later.
He wondered what was going to happen next, but he didn’t really know, and it bothered him to no end that he didn’t have a backup plan. He stared at the invitation that was on the screen, looking at the menacing email with a glare.

This person was so important that he felt like it was an obligation to have this in his life. She wondered if maybe there was something that he could do about this, but he didn’t have a choice other than to go along with it.
