On board the Orion Defender, Paul Johnson took the ship away from the area around the ruined city and dropped down behind the hill where the landing party had disembarked. He did this to screen the ship from bombardment while Colin Freeman sent the message that they had just received from Earth onto the township, in the township this message was received with joy and excitement. They were no longer alone; John Anderson immediately began to formulate a list of their requirements, food and Dylithium crystals being amongst the first of the items that they required.
Back behind the hill, the Defender took off and returned once again to its Geo-stationary orbit that positioned it thirty degrees above the planets horizon, giving the ship a clear view of the city. Here they hoped to be safely clear of any more of their enemies powerful energy bolts. The crew of the Defender awaited developments with trepidation, why could not their enemy be less powerful than they were, just this once.
