My biggest concern was if my pill was effective against alien pregnancy?
“Okay, so you’re telling me that your people have been here for years?”
After our fun and games, we both slept for another 5 hours and were only awakened by the creepy clerk who I rented the room from the night before. I got rid of him easily enough by shoving another $50 into his hand and telling him we would be out by tonight.
After I showered again, I ran out to the local Wal*Mart—No matter how big, or small a town is, there’s always a Wal*Mart—and bought some clothes for my spaceman. Yeah, his skin was still pale blue, but in a t-shirt and jeans, he could pass for human if no one looked close enough. Of course, my paranoia was still on overload and it felt like I had eyes constantly on me. But, as my luck would have it, I really didn’t need to worry about much of anything.
When I walked back into the motel room, my spaceman’s skin was now caucasian in appearance.
“How did you do that?”
Then he explained to me how his species was highly adaptable and could change their skin color and even their body types at will so that they could blend in on whatever planet they visited. After we were in the car and driving towards Sedona, he started cluing me in on a few other things.
“Yes, we’ve been visiting your planet for what you would describe as decades. We were the ones who landed in New Mexico in 1945.”
“Landed? You mean you crash landed, and it was in 1947.”
“No, that wasn’t us. That was your people testing an aircraft design we had given you in exchange for letting us visit you regularly.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me?”
“No, it was nuclear-powered aircraft that crashed. Your government covered it up by blaming it on us. We didn’t mind because we enjoyed coming to your planet so much.”
By the way, can you guess why my spaceman’s people loved coming here so much? Yeah, his people are made up of nothing but men. And they really, really, really like earth women.
“So then how do you reproduce?” I asked.
“By cloning. It is how we’ve sustained our species for well over millennia.”
“So … Can you get earth women pregnant?
“No, we can ejaculate, but that particular function has been designed out of our species.”
Well, now that was a weight off my shoulders.
“And the reason why no one came chasing after you after you crash was because the government already knows you’re here?”
“Yes. What they most likely did was close the roadway we were traveling on and cleaned up the wreckage before anyone became aware of it. Your government is very efficient when it comes to such things.”
“Wow … This is just so much to take in. By the way, and I hope you weren’t offended because I didn’t ask you earlier, but what’s your name?” I asked as my cheeks burned bright red.
“It’s alright, Dawn. My name is basically unpronounceable in any human language. So you can call me whatever you want.”
Uh, he was kind of like a dog. I can’t say I minded that.
“Dawn,” My spaceman said. “I was wondering if you could do me a favor?”
“Sure, whatever you want.”
“Would you mind stopping the vehicle so I could put my genitals inside of you again.”
Yeah, he was definitely a dog. But it was definitely a favor I could provide him.
***
We arrived at my house in Sedona just after nightfall. I’m one of the lucky few in the picturesque valley to be extremely isolated from the rest of the town proper—The woman I had bought the house from had moved here in the late 60’s with her husband and they also bought the surrounding 5 acres of property, and she sold it all to me for a song—because my spacemen were going to be transporting himself back up to his main ship.
As he typed furiously into my computer, I couldn’t help but feel a little sad. Yes, meeting my spaceman had validated my entire life’s work, but I couldn’t write or talk about him because of our government's agreement with his people, and if I even said a single word about him, I would be disappeared so fast that my head would spin. Plus, I was kind of really starting to like him. He was honestly the best guy I’d met in years. Too bad he lived 30 light years away.
Suddenly, a shaft of light appeared in my office. It shimmered pure white and practically blinded me.
My spaceman stood up and started walking towards it, but just as he was about to step in, he turned to me.
“Dawn, why don’t you come with me?” He held out his hand to me.
For a minute, I was frozen in my spot. I asked myself what I really had here on earth? Who would really miss me? Sure, there were my grandparents, who I loved more than anything. But it wasn’t like I couldn’t ever come back? And wasn’t traveling into space real validation for my work?
I took my spaceman’s hand—I was really going to have to give him a name—and he pulled me into a deep kiss, and then we stepped into the light and were gone.
