“You’re the second but I thought Greg would be my only man. I have no idea how many affairs he had before this one. I was a fool.”

“Not a fool. You trusted a man who didn’t deserve you,” Noel reassured her. “I don’t understand why Greg left. You are beautiful and so damn sexy.”

Gina smiled, she could believe it when he said it, but Greg had never made her feel like this. Sex had always taken place in the bedroom, in the bed. She’d never known how wonderful it was to be loved by a man who knew what he was doing and she’d loved everything Noel had done to and with her in front of the wood fire by the Christmas tree for the second time that night.

“Is there no man in your life?” Noel asked, a finger dropping to brush her nipple through her clothes. He felt it stiffen under his touch. They weren’t finished with love this magical night.

“There is someone, he asked me out,” Gina confessed.

“What’s his name? Is he worthy of you?” he asked, sounding like a disapproving father.

“His name is Blake. I knew him before Greg, but we lost touch. I bumped into him a few weeks ago, and he gave me his number.”

“Are you going to phone him?”

“I think so,” Gina nodded. Blake was a little older than her, but much younger than Greg, and he still had the thick hair she remembered from their youth. He was still strong and hadn’t allowed his body to go to seed like Greg had.

“You should. You’re too glorious to be just a Nanna.”

Christmas morning came with a flurry of swirling snowflakes. Noel lifted his head and nudged Gina who slept in his arms.

“Merry Christmas,” he whispered with a tender kiss to the top of her head. “It’s morning, and I think we should put some clothes on before the two terrors race downstairs in search of presents.”

“Oh my Goodness,” Gina gasped, looking down at her lack of attire. It wouldn’t do for a Nanna to be caught naked in the arms of a man twenty years younger. “Merry Christmas,” she said, leaning up for a kiss before snatching up her clothes, and disappearing up the stairs.

In the shower, she grinned happily to herself. Noel had treated her to the best Christmas she’d ever had, and soon she would get to meet her first granddaughter. She couldn’t be happier, but she realized the passion between her and Noel was a brief beautiful fling. It couldn’t last, not in the real world, and she knew neither of them wanted it to.

“I was thinking,” she said to Noel in the kitchen a short while later. He had both boys sitting at the table eating pancakes with syrup, having warned them that Santa didn’t leave presents for boys who didn’t eat all their breakfast.

“What were you thinking?” he asked, handing her a cup of aromatic coffee and leading her to a seat the table where a plate of hot pancakes sat waiting her attention.

“You should phone Jan,” she told him. “Oh, these are good. Did you make them yourself?”

“Luc didn’t tell you that I co-own a restaurant in town? I’m good with my hands,” he teased, running his hand over Samuel’s already messy hair. Santa hadn’t left instructions about brushing hair too. “Do you?”

“Do I what?” Gina asked, through a mouthful of delicious pancake.

“You really think I should phone Jan?”

“Yes, I do. You’d make a wonderful husband, and I can see how good you are with the boys. Don’t you want children?”

“Yes, I’d love kids but...” Noel’s words faded away. “I’ll make a deal with you. I’ll phone Jan if you call Blake.”

“Sounds like a deal,” Gina grinned. Oh yes that sounded very good. She turned at the sound of a car in the drive. “They’re here!”

The front door flew open and two excited little boys ran out in the snow as their father leant into the taxi to help their mother out.

“It’s the baby!” Samuel cried, jumping up and down to catch a glimpse of the carefully wrapped up bundle in his mommy’s arms.

“I wanna see!” shrieked Georgie, fearful his brother would see at their new sister first.

“Right, you two get back in here now!” Noel called with a tone in his voice which brooked no disobedience. “Let’s get the ladies inside before you start.”

  ****

“Oh Sadie, she is gorgeous,” Gina sighed as the tiny baby slept on in her arms. Little Millie hadn’t noticed the happy hugs and congratulations flying around the room. She didn’t wake to the excited cries of the boys as they tore the bright wrapping paper from their presents, nor the happy tears of her mother and Nanna as they both gazed down at her.

“I think she looks like you,” Sadie rested her hand on her mother’s arm.

“That’s better than looking like your father.” Luc sat on the arm of the chair, a proud smile lighting his face. “But, yes, she does look like you, Gina. All three of my ladies are beautiful.” He looked up as Noel strolled back into the room.

“I’ve just spoken to Mom. The wedding was a bit of a disaster. Apparently, the bride didn’t turn up for the ceremony. It seems she caught the eye of a waiter, and they ran off into the sunset with the wedding rings and all the gifts. Greg was furious.”

“What a shame,” Gina said. No one deserved to be jilted, but she was sure Greg would soon find someone young and pretty to fill the gap.

“Isn’t it just?” Noel’s smile widened as Luc began to laugh.

“No fool like an old fool,” Luc chortled.

“I have a favor to ask,” Noel lowered his eyes. “Do you have enough dinner for one more? I’ve just asked my girlfriend to marry me and I’d love her to meet you all.”

“We have lots of food and, hell yes, we’d love to have her here for Christmas dinner.” Luc leapt up, offering his hand to Noel. “Congratulations!”

“In that case, do you mind if I invite someone? He’s on his own today, but I really want you to meet him.” Gina looked up into Noel’s face as he nodded and a broad smile broke out on his face. Yes, she had done the right thing. “If not, we can go out somewhere.”

“The more, the merrier.” Luc turned, leaning forward to kiss Gina on the cheek.

“Mom?” Sadie looked up in concern which faded at the light of hope in her mother’s eyes. “Do I know this person?”

“Yes, you remember Blake. You met him when we went for a meal in that ridiculously expensive restaurant for my birthday.”

“That was my ridiculously expensive restaurant,” Noel laughed.

“Worth every cent, my friend.” Luc joined in. “Especially since you wouldn’t let me pay.”

“Blake, oh he’s nice,” Sadie sighed, as Gina placed the baby in her arms. “Is he your boyfriend?”

“Not really, not yet,” Gina said, glancing to Noel’s smiling eyes as he nodded again. “But I think I’d like to find out what it’s like.”

“Look likes it’s the best Christmas ever,” Luc held up a glass of golden cognac in a toast. “Merry Christmas to one and all!”

  Chapter One

  Smack.

“Oh, Santa baby. Harder, big boy, harder!”

Alise cringed and ducked back behind the doorframe at the cry and moan that followed. Neither her fright, nor her dampened curiosity, lasted very long. She peeked around the corner once again to see the purple-haired woman cry out and her boss shudder as he gripped her hips before collapsing on top of her with a satisfied groan.

Alise absently removed her spectacles and wiped them on her green nightgown before she realized she was sweating. Alise knew she shouldn’t be spying on the strange woman, but she still didn’t trust her since the stranger came out of nowhere last Christmas and made herself a part of their—correction, Santa’s—life. Santa se
emed to trust the interloper but he was too gosh darn holly-jolly for his own good.

Plus there was this thing the two of them did without clothes whenever they thought everyone was asleep. She couldn’t understand why they enjoyed it so much with the amount of bad language and exertion involved. The only time that it seemed worth it, to her, was when Santa struck the woman in the rear with his bare hand. She deserved some punishment given the tizzy she’d thrown all their lives into, taking Santa’s attention off his work. By the North Pole, you couldn’t trust elves to stick to a schedule without supervision. As an elf herself, she knew firsthand it was sheer madness!

Strangely enough, even with her reddened posterior, the woman enjoyed it and even shouted encouragement. Odd didn’t even begin to describe Rebecca Trunson, or “Becky” as she insisted they call her. Alise preferred “that woman” or a differential grunt.

Jolly was only for elves and Becky was not remotely close as she towered over even the tallest of them. Alise didn’t trust anyone who obviously tried so hard to be overly friendly, especially someone who so obviously had her boss in thrall.

Alise studied her for weeks and had even gone so far as to “borrow” a magic-detector from Santa’s rooms which she now kept underneath the pillow on her bunk. More frustrating than stealing something from her boss was the fact that the woman didn’t so much as jigger the needle above anyone else on the magic-o-meter. There was always the chance the detector was broken or Becky had some way to trick it, but Alise doubted that. Krampus devices had never failed in the centuries since they’d gained access to them.

No, whatever Santa and Becky did together must be the root of it and the only way Alise would free Santa from this unnatural compulsion was to understand it herself. Dangerous territory, but, once you understood how something worked, you could figure out how to stop it. It was a sacrifice Alise was willing to make.

The first thing she needed would be a male. That shouldn’t be a problem, there were plenty of them at the workshop, but she needed to find one who wouldn’t talk and alert the woman to her plans. Her friend, Helbert, would be perfect. He hadn’t told anyone about the extra chocolate cookie she took that one time during a snack break. That was about as ice-solid as you could ask for.

It wasn’t hard to find Helbert. He was taller than most of his fellow elves, a slight wave in his blond hair. His green eyes sparkled at her appearance. To be truthful, Alise admired him for years but she knew her eyesight and freckles made her undesirable, so she treasured his friendship instead.

Helbert scratched his head at her vague request. “What is it you want me to do?”

“I can’t tell you, but you trust me, right, Helbert?”

  “You know I do.”

“Then meet me in the doll workshop closet after bedtime.”

Alise arrived at her secret spot well before she figured Helbert would show up. She needed time to think and to go over in her mind what she’d seen and how to go about it.

The door opened and Helbert snuck inside. He quietly shut the door behind him. “What’s all this about?” he asked. “You know I have an early shift tomorrow morning.”

“I know. This shouldn’t take long.”

“All right,” he said. “What do you want me to do?”

  “Take off your trousers.”

Helbert looked at her oddly. “Why do I need to do that?” he asked.

“Because I can’t find out what I need to with them on.”

“This is all really strange, Alise,” he said and stepped out of his trousers. “But go ahead.”

She immediately realized something was wrong. Helbert wasn’t long and rigid like Santa. His laid there small and limp. Her mind raced. Perhaps elves were different? No. Wait. She remembered one time Santa’s had been the same way. Becky had done something...

“Oh!” she exclaimed. “I remember now!”

“Can we get on with whatever it is you brought me down here for?” he grumbled.

  “Sure.”

Alise knelt down in front of him and took it into her mouth.

“What in the name of the Pole are you doing?” Helbert said.

Something was still wrong. He was still the same.

“I’m trying to find out something but you’re not cooperating,” she said.

She remembered the woman moving her mouth so she tried that with the same result. There must be some trick to it. Perhaps it was like a candy cane? She closed her lips around Helbert and sucked lightly while using her tongue.

Helbert’s face wasn’t the only thing that hardened. She would have squealed in excitement if her mouth wasn’t occupied. She experimented with the movement of her mouth and where she rubbed her tongue, it didn’t seem to matter. Helbert was getting very rigid.

“What... what are you...doing?” he asked.

  She removed her mouth. “Experimenting.”

  “Is it... working?” he rasped.

Alise looked at it extending away from Helbert’s body much in the same way that Santa’s had. She stood up.

“Yes. Thanks Helbert!” she said and headed toward the door.

“Wait!” he cried, a hint of panic creeping into his voice. “You can’t leave me like this! What if this doesn’t go away?”

He had a point. Did it? Her nerves had always gotten the best of her so she never saw if it did or not. She returned and resumed her position in front of him.

He groaned as she took him into her mouth again. She must be onto something because Santa had made those same noises.

She licked and sucked as Helbert’s breathing grew more labored. Alise became aware of a strange heat building within her. Helbert’s hands came to cup her face and his touch sent a jolt down her. He groaned loudly.

  “Alise,” he grunted. “I feel—”

  The door opened.

Helbert cried out and something wet and sticky blasted across her face and spectacles.

“Holy shit!” Becky’s familiar voice rang out even if she couldn’t see her clearly.

She looked over to Helbert for support but his goofy grin and glazed expression told her no help would be coming from him.

“I am so sorry!” she heard Becky gasp and the door quickly closed.

  Drat.

  Chapter Two

The only bright spot for Alise in the next few days was that Helbert was extra nice to her and asked several times if she needed his help again. Alise knew she should be mad at him for making so much noise Becky discovered them, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. She also knew she needed to be more careful in the future.

So far her experiences had been mixed. Alise found she could stimulate a male like that woman could, but she also knew she was clumsy and inexperienced in the area. She had done something wrong. Based on what she saw, Helbert shouldn’t have shot whatever that stuff was out of his...thing. Maybe there was something wrong with him? The small workshop library had always been a source of knowledge for her in the past, but she held no delusions about it helping her with this. The woman must have her own store of information and Alise needed it. She resolved to go into the woman’s home.

For all Alise’s dire misgivings, it was remarkably easy. She simply waited until the next time Santa and the woman were occupied and turned the knob on the door of the room Becky had created into the workshop. It opened without any danger or noise to betray her.

She had never ventured into the other world, but she caught enough parts of the woman’s conversations to know it wasn’t a happy place. She felt hesitant about stepping through, but the connecting home was dark, quiet, and unassuming. Alise went in and pulled the door shut behind her.

She took a moment to thank her elven eyes. Even in the darkness she could see. Her thanks died in her thro
at as she saw the hundreds of books that spilled out of numerous bookcases, piled up on the table in the living room, and scattered about wherever she looked. She started with the ones on the low table in front of the curiously padded large chair.

After awhile, she discovered the ones with the illustrated pictures, despite being interesting, held no help for her. She took a handful of the ones that only contained text and climbed up on the odd chair to get comfortable. She yelped as she sat on something hard and the box with the glass front on it lit up across the room. A man and a woman were talking about some sort of device to “strengthen and tone your abs,” whatever those were.

It was loud. She fumbled with the thing she’d sat on, bewildered at the number of buttons on it. She pressed a random button and the boisterous man and woman disappeared. There was a high-pitched whir and another man and woman appeared, without clothes and doing the things she’d seen Santa and the woman do. At least neither of this new couple yelled at her. They were more concerned with each other, and not a whit for modesty, as soft moans reached her ears.

Alise watched, suddenly entranced, as she saw things not obscured by bed sheets or body parts the times she’d spied on the woman and Santa. So that’s where that goes. So that’s why... oh goodness.

The longer the images flickered on the box, the more her logical mind faded. That strange heat began again, pleasantly warming her stomach. The man in the box squeezed the woman’s breast and Alise unconsciously did the same. Her senses exploded at the pressure. She felt a wetness inside her trousers, blushed in embarrassment, and quickly thrust her hand between her legs.

The door opened and Becky walked in. She sighed in exasperation.

“Alise, this is getting out of hand,” she said.

  Double drat.
