Adam Reynard watched with mixed emotions while Vaggo Blackmore attacked the unsuspecting female. She was human. So much like Genesis Blackmore, yet equally different. He should have known she wasn’t a Par. He’d mistreated Gen badly. He’d tried to redeem himself. He’d warned her about Xander, and now she was matched to the bastard. Like you are to his sister. Adam growled his displeasure. He’d known from the moment he’d taken her to the Academy that she was his. Honor and duty had kept him away and now she was matched to Xander Treegold! He’d been an ass to her. Confused her with the small and intimate touches they’d shared in passing. An arm brush or a finger graze, and he was starved for her. A true match hadn’t taken place in over two hundred rotations, and he’d let his true half slip away. At the tasting, he’d even pushed her into Xander’s waiting arms. He had no idea how much his stupidity would cost him. Too ignorant to accept the truth, he’d pushed her away. Politically matched to Bianca Treegold in order to secure his father’s place as Chancellor. What the hell was he going to do now?
As the crowd continued to listen to Vaggo explain how humans were now going to be rationed, he watched as the car sped out into the empty streets and away from him. Genesis Blackmore was a human and his true match in every way. He didn’t care how he would claim her. But claim her he would.
