The Complete Creeping Darkness

“That’s the life I’m living. I hate fighting on three fronts all the time.”
“Three?” She questioned.
“Elements, it’s always dark and depressing. And then those damn bugs are always trying to eat us.”
“And?” she asked.
“And we have too much infighting like you and Sophie.”
She hugged him close.
“I’m just worry she’s trying to steal you away from me.”
“You know it’s not like that with me and her.”
“Hmm, maybe.”
“But if you want to talk about that stuff, what about us? Is there even an us? Because I’d be shocked if there was, because I don’t even know,” he said. He was kind of in a bad mood. But being with her softened him up a little. Originally he was ready to tear at her, but he was slowly simmering down.
“I mean really what are you doing with me?” He questioned.
“Loving you.”
He shook his head and let her go.
“No, that’s not what I mean. I mean I can’t keep doing what we’re doing to Lee! He’s my friend and… well we just seem to be going around in circles.”
“Yes you say that and yet you’ve kept on kissing me and touching me, fucking me when you get the chance, in all sorts of holes… hmm weird.”
He gave her a disgusted look.
“For your info I know about Lee all too well. You know you act like you’re the only one hurting here. Well, what about me? Or do my feelings not count? The little hussy doesn’t count?”
“I’m not saying that and don’t turn this around on me.”
“Do you know how hard this has been for me? I’m the one stuck in the middle between two friends. And it’s not even my fault! I never asked to like you or for Lee to like me, I was lonely, that’s why I went out with Lee. And sure maybe I had lousy timing, maybe if I had been able to hang on just a little while longer maybe you and I could have been together and we wouldn’t have to hide it or risk hurting others. But things didn’t work out like that. And that we have to deal with, and I’m dealing with it the best I can!” She said wiping her eyes.
Peter put his head down and looked around, unsure of what to do, or say.
“I’m the one living a lie to protect you Peter!”
They both were silent for a minute, finally she turned away from him and cried silently. He searched for something to say.
“I never asked you to.”
She turned and looked at him with her puppy dog eyes.
“Do you want to end it?” She asked.
His heart skipped a beat. The cold suddenly bit at him.
“N...no,” he stammered.
“If you had your wish and Lee found out, how would he react?” She asked. “And where would we be?”
“I can take Lee!” Peter said louder. “He’s not the only tough guy around here!”
“Maybe, but this is a lawless land. And you’ve seen what Lee can do. We’re fighting a war on every side, like you said and it’s so much. I want to break it off with Lee, I do. I want to be with you! But I don’t want to risk your life and I guess I thought as long as we hide it, we’d both be safe. I don’t care about my life; I’m just so worried about you. Everything I do is for you!” she said and walked into his arms.
“I’m sorry,” he said and held her as tight as he could.
“After the mission,” she whispered. “After the mission I’ll break up with him, but you have to be serious about me. Do you love me?” She looked up at him with those gorgeous eyes, “Because this’ll be it. We’ll be together for thick and thin, for better or worse. You’d better be sure!”
“I couldn’t be surer about anything. Maybe we could go to New York?”
“That’d be a good idea.”
“I’m sorry I doubted you,” he said.
“Don’t worry, I love happy endings,” she said and smiled her gorgeous smile, “This is all going so perfectly.”
Peter kissed her neck, down to her shoulders.
“We should go inside,” Peter suggested.
“No, I want you to fuck me out here.”
“Someone could see us.”
“So.”
Peter reached under her shirt, up to her bra and to her tits and squeezed them.
Olivia reached behind her and rubbed the outside of his pants over his stiffening cock.
She pushed against him with her ass, teasing him as she pushed harder. He pushed back, rubbing himself against her.
She reached for his zipper and fly and undid them. She pulled out his dick and stroked it.
“Jerk off against me,” Olivia said as she undid her pants.
Peter grabbed his dick and kissed her neck as he jerked off.
She pulled him over to the rail and pulled down her pants to the bottom of her ass.
Peter guided his dick into her wet pussy. He started fucking her from behind.
Olivia pushed against the rail and stuck out her ass as Peter hammered her.
She reached around and arched her body and grabbed his ass as he continued fucking her.
He reached under her shirt and grabbed at her breasts and rubbed them hard.
“Harder Peter,” Olivia said as she moved her hips to meet his pounding dick.
She moved her hand down and rubbed at her clit.
Peter moved his hands down and felt at her tight stomach. She pulled him out of her and leaned down and started sucking his dick.
Peter fingered her pussy as she bent over.
“I’m cumming,” Peter said as Olivia moved her mouth away from his dick as it shot out cum.
“Rest, I’ll be back soon,” Olivia said as she pulled up her panties and pants.
“Where are you going?”
“Just gotta deal with a few things is all. I just wanted to make sure you had a good going away present is all.”
“Ok. Are you seeing Lee?”
“I have to say good-bye.”
Peter grabbed her arm, “Are you going to fuck him?”
“No Peter,” she said grabbing his face, “It’s only you baby.”
She kissed him and walked away.
Peter looked out at his fiefdom and felt a stab of anxiousness. He wondered how Lee would take it all and how nice it would be to be with Olivia all the time.
First things first though, he had some monsters to kill.
Chapter 5
Peter stood at the edge of hell looking down, the cold wind blew shivers down Peter’s spine. He briefly thought about re-considering. But it was too late, maybe it was inevitable that he’d be standing here, right now. It was an interesting hole. It was large for one and it went almost straight down. He assumed that it would start going more horizontal eventually.
Above them shone the blazing light of a hundred thousand suns, too far away to make up for their own missing star’s light.
“Ready?” He asked his army.
About twenty soldiers, including Lee shouted Yes at him.
“Good!”
Then far away the sound of motorcycles. Originally, He thought it was just his imagination, but no longer.
“Do you hear that?” He asked Lee as his army got ready to repel down the hole.
Lee strained, then nodded, “Yeah.”
“Great, just what we need, company.”
“Maybe good company,” Lee suggested.
“Maybe. But with my luck?”
Lee laughed.
Peter could soon see dozens of individual lights, all motorbikes.
“They outnumber us, we should probably steer clear of them,” Lee suggested.
“It’s not a matter of us steering clear, they’re coming right for us.”
“So? Do you want us to fight?”
“No. You lead them. I’ll stay, deal with them.”
“No, let me stay, you should lead them. This is your party.”
“You can do it Lee. You can get it done. If this goes bad, you’ll know what to do.”
>
“Survive?”
Peter nodded.
“Do you hear that?” someone said becoming aware of the incoming bikes.
“Listen up!” Peter yelled. “Lee’s going to lead you in. I’m going to deal with those biker’s. Could be friends, could be foes. We’ll find out soon enough. Just remember always be ready for whatever is thrown at you! Move out! And good luck!”
He nodded at Lee and threw a flare into the hole. It was just as he suspected, it hit the ground at about ten feet and rolled down the side.
Lee repelled down. The soldiers followed. They all tied a line to a spike a good way from the hole. Soon they were all down and he was alone.
The faint eerie sounds of crickets chirped, or was he just imagining it? Another gust blew through Peter, or was it just his nerves. He could hear the odd dead dry leaf blowing around.
He looked over at the town, it was so still and quiet. He wondered if there was anyone else in the city just trying to survive.
The motorbikes continued in his direction. Their lights lit the narrow street between the gas station that Peter, Maddie, Olivia and Alessandro were at a million years ago.
He could start seeing banners and flags. It was that kind of bike gang.
“Thanks,” Peter said aloud, he could feel his body vibrating from the roar of the engines.
Peter couldn’t see specifics on their banners until they got closer to him, then he could see the white swastikas against a red background flying prominently and he assumed, proudly. And skulls, lots of skulls.
He closed his eyes and whispered a prayer. What a way to die. After all he’d been through! Slowly, the engines started turning off. He shielded his eyes and wondered how ridiculous he looked, a lone bug beside a giant hole in the ground.
A man got off his bike followed by about thirty others. He assumed he was the leader. He clenched his jaw as he walked up to him. The leader was by no means a small man. His head was shaved, accenting his tri-goatee and his many tattoos. The most prominent of which was a tiger wrapped around a white swastika, it went from the back of his bald head to the middle of his eyes.
“Doomsday plus one, hey kid,” he said.
Peter nodded, not entirely sure what he was referring to, although he did understand the doomsday part.
“I was once told beware the blackness of days,” the man said to Peter advancing closer to him. “But did I listen? No! I never did fully appreciate the sun rising, nor the sun setting. I took the turning of night into day for granted!”
“I wouldn’t be too down on yourself, I’m sure about seven billion others did as well,” Peter replied.
“Your right kid, I may have been too harsh on myself. Thanks, I feel better about myself.”
“Can I be some assistance to you all?” Peter asked. He really wasn’t in the mood to listen to what was obviously a psychopath looking for a fight. He guessed he should be careful. He also didn’t want to be too abrupt, but showing a guy like this weakness was like dropping a bucket of blood in a pool with a dozen shark.
Peter felt the re-assuring steel of his gun and flashed it.
The man smiled, “Nice piece kid.”
Someone over-exaggerated a noise to Peter’s left, Peter fell for the trick. He caught the glint of metal coming at him as it slammed into the side of his head. He fell to his knees clutching his bleeding head, blood ran through his fingers.
Expecting another attack, he quickly drew his gun, scuttled away and fired in the air and then tried to regain his senses as fast as he could. The leader stared at him smiling.
“Back off!” He yelled.
Several guns trained their sights on him. The guy that hit him, handed the leader a large wrench.
“This, my boy is, is a little guy I like to call Wrenchie, and he makes sure people are listening, you are listening aren’t you?”
He looked around, they looked like a pack of wild dogs.
“You’ve got my attention.”
“Works every time! The name’s Kaiser. And we’re here looking for a bunch of stinking traitors. You know them?” he asked. “People collaborating with the enemy.”
Peter looked down at his hands all covered in blood.
“Well Mr. Kaiser, I have no idea what you’re talking about. There’s no traitor here. Just a mission to collapse a Night Crawler’s hole and block their access to my city.”
The man known as Kaiser gave Peter a no doubt practiced crazy eye.
“We’ve been contracted to save these United States of America!” Kaiser said emphasizing every word. The brood behind him clapped wildly.
Peter could see this was going nowhere fast. He wondered if the man could be reasoned with.
“By who?” Peter asked.
“Do you really think you’re in any kind of position to beg questions of me?” he asked.
“I do,” he said and got back to his feet, pointing his gun at Kaiser.
“Spunky!” Kaiser said amused.
“I’m in charge of this town. I decide what’s going on here!” Peter said as calmly and as menacingly as he could.
“Really?” Kaiser growled.
He was getting more nervous. These were the kind of guys that just shoot you for the hell of it.
“We were told that some punk kid had taken over. Imagine boys, a kid telling us what to do!” he said laughing, almost doubling over.
Everyone joined in the laughter.
“Punk kid?” He said. “I think you’ve been grossly misinformed.”
Kaiser wiped away a tear, “Thanks kid, we haven’t got a good laugh for awhile you know, what with it being an apocalyptic wasteland and all.”
“I’m going to ask nicely, leave my town while you have a chance. You may not realize that I control the local armed forces.”
“Where the hell’s your army then boy?”
Everyone laughed.
“What is this the Apollo? Are you all high, laughing like a bunch of stupid Hyenas?” He asked and shook his head.
The laughter abruptly stopped.
“You know what my army’s up to? Busy pissing on some guy’s graves. He came by last week, they had on giant white robes and giant white hats. Spouting off some bullshit about racial purity, so I shot ‘em,” he tapped his forehead, “Right here. Looked him in the eye…”
The area went deathly quiet.
“And pulled the trigger! So now, I’ll ask one more time what are you doing here?” He asked again, gaining their attention in probably the worst way possible.
He was inching closer and closer to the hole, readying himself to dive in case it got ugly.
“In short boy, we were hired to stop some punk kids with a faggot leader form destroying a town by the name of New Haven. Apparently the fag leader burnt down Yale, killed half the population and is now collaborating with the Chinese to invade America.”
“What?” He asked, shocked at the pure stupidity of what he’d just heard, “Is it because there’s a hole here? Because you can’t really dig to China.”
“Funny. That’s right, I heard they’re helping the Chinese divert the dirty bugs into attacking major cities and help over-run local civie forces.”
“That’s crazy! You think the Chinese had something to do with this? That they’re going to invade us and that I’m going to divert the bugs to Boston or New York?” He asked questioning if he actually heard what he’d heard.
“Yeah! Good money!”
“And you don’t think the Chinese are suffering as much as we are, if not worse?” He asked.
“Listen you faggot, we know all about the plot against America.”
How could two people who loved the country so much have two such differing points of view on how to save it?
“And you think I’m helping them? Man, I really wish you’d just stop and listen to yourself , just for a minute even man.”
“Oh yeah. They got spies like you all over this country trying to destroy us. That’s why you’re not dead yet. Our benef
actor wants you alive, so that you’ll spill.”
“You’re nuts! I’m just trying to survive like you. I have no idea about any plot.”
“Kid you know it. Who are you working with? The Chinese? Iraqis? Iranians? Spics? You all got together and created a giant bug to attack America. Chemical and genetic warfare at its best.”
“And then we blotted out the sun right?” He asked so confused that there were actually people like this, much less hundreds.
“Where are the others? We’ve got things to do!” Kaiser yelled.
“Like rallying?” He asked. “Who paid you, and don’t bother with the bullshit about me dying, I’m pretty outnumbered anyhow, I’ve faced the facts, what about you? I’m sure you’d hate to miss your new America.”
Peter slowly reached into his backpack and pulled pin from a tear gas canister, not too deadly, but it’d do.
“A girl, a young beautiful white girl. She promised us gold, diamonds and glory.”
“What’s her name?”
“Why should I tell you her name boy?”
“Call me boy one more time,” Peter said and threw the pin at Kaiser, “You’re stupid, but not that stupid!”
“She knew you’d ask and she didn’t mind telling me that her name was Sophie!”
“Sophie?” He said, it felt like a kick in the gut. It couldn’t be.
“And that’s not a grenade, it’s tear gas. Now boy we can do this the hard way or the easy way!”
“You’re not willing to die for your cause are you? You’re not that committed?”
“Try me… boy.”
“Okay!” He said and tossed the grenade at him. It spun around, releasing gas.
They opened fire on him as he dropped into the hole. He grabbed another grenade and threw it into the crowd, hoping the smoke screen would cover him.
“We can’t let him collapse it!” He heard Kaiser yell.
Chapter 6
The hole was wet and slippery and Peter found himself sliding. He let himself get far enough away from those nut jobs before he tried slowing himself. Finally the cave curved and Peter came to a stop. The Night Crawlers didn’t have to worry about only two feet, they had four plus they could fly. It was still slippery and treacherous, but useable.
He planted a tear gas container into the side of the cave and wrapped a piece of string around the pin and fastened it to the other side of the cave, this would be a not so nice surprise if he were to be followed. The bike gang would stop and let the smoke clear before they proceeded, if they were smart and that should hopefully give him enough time to catch up to his friends.
