“Lee,” He said, panting, “This has gone on long enough hasn’t it? I can’t keep fighting you. I’ve fought you to a standstill. I’m pretty sure I could have taken you out a few times and I’m pretty sure you could have taken me out. It’s obvious that we don’t want to kill each other. And I’m sorry! I can only say it so many times. I was stupid and I understand how much honor means to you, but I also know revenge won’t make you feel better. Look at what I did thinking it was for Maddie, it wasn’t. It was just an excuse to be nuts. We’re human, and we’re flawed and we… we just look for excuses to act like animals and sometimes it just hurts too many people. We’ve got to stop and think about the consequences…”

He didn’t get to finish his newest speech. Lee attacked again. But this time Lee kicked his wound on his thigh. He then slapped Peter’s other leg, buckling it, fell to his knees. His sword was in weird position and he held his hand and his sword up. He bent his wrist causing him to drop his sword. He was suddenly at Lee’s mercy. He let Peter go and he shook his sore wrists. He fell onto all fours, catching his breath. He slowly got to his knees.

“You could try to grab your sword,” Lee said.

“And maybe I’d be able to get it back, so what, I can’t fight you any longer. I fell off a cliff man.”

“Thrown off actually,” a sweet voice pierced the night.

Then the familiar sound of crunching gravel, but this time not just one person. A couple.

“Lee darling kill him! End his miserable life!” Olivia said as she walked into the light.

She’d changed. She was dressed in an all white outfit. Her hair was combed different, and although she still looked angelic, Peter knew she wasn’t the person he thought she was. She seemed like a queen, a dark and evil queen. As dark as the Night Crawler Queen in his dream.

“I can’t,” Lee said, almost whispering.

“And why the hell not?” Olivia asked.

More and more people came behind her; it was like she’d assembled the entire school’s army. Soon the crunching was deafening. Lee must have suspected something too. They caught each other’s eyes.

“Because I forgive him,” he said, “Every fiber screams at me not to, but I do, and I know you can to. Regardless of what may have happened in the past. Besides we need to work things out. I need to know what`s really going on.”

“You forgive him? Maybe it’s not up to you to forgive him Lee.”

  Peter looked over at Olivia.

“We are not animals, we are capable of more than just fighting,” Lee said.

Olivia looked at Lee amused; she raised an eyebrow and smiled.

“Didn’t know you had it in you Lee, that’s cool though. Kill them both!” She ordered someone.

Out of the darkness four guys came running out with swords.

“Olivia?” Lee said with genuine confusion.

Peter wondered if that was how he looked in the forest? Shocked, betrayed, confused.

“What are you doing, we can create something better for us all. We don’t have to kill!” Lee protested, his own words perhaps surprising himself.

“If you don’t kill, Lee, you’re useless to me. All you ever were to me was an animal that killed. And when an animal can’t do what it’s supposed to do, it’s lame, and you shoot it.”

Justin, Johnny, Alex and a guy named Steve ran out.

This, Peter assumed was Olivia’s new council.

“I order you to stand down!” Lee yelled at them.

“We serve her,” Johnny said looking for confirmation from his men, they nodded.

He always thought Johnny and Justin were loyal too. Alex, well he was a different case. Peter jumped to his feet and patted Lee’s back as they were surrounded.

“You’re just pawns too. She just uses people as she sees fit,” Peter said to the boys.

They attacked! Peter tripped Alex, questioning why she sent him after them, considering he was just a nerd, unless she wanted him out of the way for some reason. So Peter didn’t kill him. He just kicked him in the face, knocking him out.

Lee wasn’t as nice and was tearing into Johnny and Justin.

Steve, he recognized, he was the captain of the fencing team and was a good soldier. He attacked and was almost an equal match for him. But the last twenty minutes of fighting had worn a toll on him and Steve stabbed him in the hand.

“Damn it!” Peter yelled and dropped his sword.

Lee slid in for his rescue and counter attacked.

Peter picked up his sword with his other hand and joined in the fight. Steve sliced his arm and kicked his bleeding leg. He fell to the ground.

Lee took advantage of his sacrifice and elbowed Steve hard in the face. He brought him down.

Peter found the ground incredibly comfortable, he didn’t want to get up, even though he could feel and hear Sophie urging him to get up.

  Olivia walked over to Lee.

“Lee, I’m sorry. I… I wasn’t thinking straight. Things… my mind…” she said almost crying.

Lee dropped his sword, she grabbed him and brought his head close to her.

“Olivia, what are you doing? What was the point of all this?” he asked.

She quietly pulled out her gun.

  “Lee!” Peter screamed.

Olivia pulled the trigger. Sophie hugged Peter close to her and, he heard the body drop. He swore inside his head and pounded the ground. Sophie muffled a cry.

“I lucked out,” Olivia said in almost a totally different voice, “I got to see how much Lee’s death would hurt you. And it looks like it hurt a lot. It’s funny how he tried to be peaceful and it actually caused his death.

“You’re an animal!” Peter yelled at her.

Olivia walked over to him and pointed her gun, “Hilarious, you calling me an animal?”

Suddenly day magically appeared again. An ominous sign, considering what she did to him last time this happened.

And then the sound of helicopters. And hope once again welled inside Peter.

Olivia looked away briefly. Sophie picked up Peter’s sword and sliced out at her, but Olivia was quick and jumped out of the way of the attack. She brought up a kick and nailed Sophie in the face and then another one in the chest, staggering her.

Peter shot out like a snake, but Olivia was ready and spun around and shot him in the chest. Peter was shocked and fell backwards to the ground. He had failed and now he was going to die.

“No!” Sophie yelled, she pulled out the gun Peter had given her and started firing.

The first bullet missed and Peter was glad he was on the ground dying, because he’d probably have been shot. But the second bullet hit Olivia in the arm. Peter weakly kicked at Olivia and she lost her footing. Sophie ran over and kicked Olivia’s gun away. Sophie trained her gun on Olivia.

“Are you okay?” Sophie asked through tears, she came over and checked on Peter.

Peter looked around at the surprised faces of his old army. They pointed their guns at the sky.

Olivia jumped at Sophie and Sophie fired hitting Olivia in the chest. She fell to the ground clutching her chest.

Olivia’s army opened fire on the helicopter.

The helicopter returned fire, probably scaring the hell out of the kids. That chopper was not to be messed with, an AH-64 Apache. It sat down close to him.

James, Peter’s brother, got out and ran over to him. He looked at Sophie, she was holding him now. Two paramedics ran over to help.

“What the hell are you up to?” James asked Peter, a dirty blonde, about Peter’s height. He was an older tamer version of him.

“I’ll explain later,” Peter said weakly. He hoped, maybe for the first time that he wasn’t going to die. Sophie held his hand, “I love you,” he told her.

“I love you too,” she said back to him and kissed his hand.

He was carried to the helicopter.

He looked at Olivia’s motionless body. As he was being strapped in, Olivia started to stir. S
he stood up and pointed her gun at the helicopter.

  “James!” He yelled.

Olivia opened fire. James was turned around by the impact of a bullet in the shoulder.

But Sophie was on it. She returned fire.

Olivia reeled as she was hit a couple of times, she finally fell to the ground. Her white coat was soaked in blood.

His brother shook it off and the helicopter lifted.

“Are you alright?” Peter asked him.

  He took off his coat.

“Ahh, its par for the course,” he joked and let the paramedic attend to him, “And I even had a bulletproof vest on, she couldn’t have shot me in the chest?”

  Peter could barely stay conscious.

“He’s losing a lot of blood!” a voice floated out.

He was hooked up to a life monitor and he could feel and hear the beeps going down. He held Sophie’s hand as all the noise and light started to fade away. So this was death? If so, it wasn’t so bad.

  “We’re losing him!”

He could hear, if only faintly Sophie crying out for me, maybe Maddie too, and a bright light…

  Chapter 11

Sophie smiled at Peter and stroked his head.

“I saw my parents and sister today; my mom said she hardly recognized me. They’re going to Hudson Bay soon. They want me to come,” Sophie told him.

“Yeah I saw my family too. We might be the only two people in the world with a happy ending,” he said. “Well… relatively.”

He was in a hospital room in the small city of Gander, Newfoundland. A once utilized military hub on the northeast tip of Canada, it had since fallen into disrepair. It was also used a stopping point during 9/11, after all flights were grounded. The locals had helped house thousands of stranded passengers. And now once again Gander was the crossroads of North America, as people headed North in search of safer dwellings. And with the relative safety here, with Newfoundland being an island and heavily fortified, they were safe for now.

“You know Lee’s father saw me too. He asked about what happened.”

  “And?”

“And omitting a few useless facts I told him our story. I told your family too. Your father’s quite proud. You’re practically a superstar around here.”

“Oh god, I don’t need that.”

“You had enough of that did you? Well not too many people actually fought these things. Most of the survivors survived because they ran and hid.”

  “I tried that.”

“Yeah didn’t work out too well hey.”

“Nope. I fell into a trap, got my girlfriend killed, my friends killed and was almost killed myself.”

“Well like I said I omitted the tedious facts from them. Lee died a hero.”

“So you’re going to Hudson Bay?”

  Sophie shrugged.

“They’re saying that the sun‘ll shine full time in about a year or two. The sun punches holes into its cocoon, but they get filled in almost as fast. But eventually… it’s more of a wait and see thing.”

  “And the Night Crawlers?”

“Not good news. Still attacking, still killing. I’ve overheard that the powers to be, the plan, once fall and winter sets in, to push South. But the southern hemisphere is pretty much toast, Africa, parts of Asia, most of Europe, and most of North America. It’s still pretty bad. We’re an endangered species now.”

Peter stretched, and looked outside at the clear blue sky. He couldn’t see the ocean, but he could smell it. The sun was out today, it was nice.

“Lee’s father sent marines to retrieve Lee’s body; I made sure that they wouldn’t just start killing people. Jack got your phone, he contacted me. He should be okay. They’ll try to save who the can.”

  “And what about her…?

  “No sign, just blood drops.”

  Peter leaned back.

“Well I guess we’ve all been afforded a new beginning Pete.”

“ Yeah, Hudson Bay hey. Yeah I heard that Canada and America were reorganizing their army structure, no real need for borders anymore is there? I guess they’ll need our dad’s there.”

“Yeah, my dad wants to leave tomorrow.”

  “Everyone’s heading north.”

They sat in an awkward silence. He was going to be alone again. Sophie was going to be alone too.

  “Sophie?”

  “Yes?”

  “Will you stay with me?”

  “Yes, I think I will.”

  “Thanks.”

  EPILOGUE 1

It was all a blur, but she dreamed she was being dragged into a tunnel, then shoved into a gelatinous mass, and finally to an underground world.

Olivia was barely conscious when she was presented in front of the queen, she was in bad shape, her grip on life was fragile at best. It wouldn’t be too long before she died.

“We’ve eaten our share. They will soon want to strike back.”

Olivia looked up at the colossal creature. She could hear the creature in her head.

“What…” she strained. She didn’t have any fear, she knew she was beyond repair, she no longer feared death, but welcomed it.

“I understand this. You humans are weak that way with your petty feelings, like revenge. You things could be so much more, but although revenge is to be human, I am not. I only survive, and I have survived for a thousand millennia, long before you humans swung out of the jungle and I’ll be around long after the last of your bones turn to dust. But to do this, I will for the first time in a long time need to fight back, I have been hidden and ruled my underground world for so long, but since I struck first, humanity will come looking for me. I have seen your soul child, and I offer you life, and purpose renewed.”

  Olivia laughed. “I got what I wanted… I don’t need you…”

“You wanted revenge, you did not get revenge, the one you wanted dead, is still very much alive. I offer you not only life, but revenge in exchange for your services.”

  “You… can fix… me?”

“Beyond your imagination. I will give you an army. Humans aren’t the only creatures that can adapt.”

“I… I’ll help you, but… I want him dead,” Olivia labored out.

The queen remembered the vision she saw of a young man crawling in her tunnels attacking her, she had felt his mind and knew he would not stop until she was dead.

  “Me too.”

  Epilogue 2

Sophie awoke and looked out at the sunlit beach out her window. She got out of bed, naked and walked to the window and looked out at the Mediterranean sea. She stretched and leaned on her dresser below the window. She looked out and down.

She had a picturesque view of the sea, she was currently on a rocky island that was safe and far from any fighting.

Peter came from behind and wrapped his arms around her and kissed the back of her neck.

  “Good morning.”

“Good morning to you too,” Sophie said kissing Peter’s arm.

Peter kissed down to her back and then turned her around and planted a big kiss on her mouth.

  “Breakfast?”

  “Sure,” Sophie said.

Peter went to walk away and Sophie pulled him back.

“Are you forgetting something? It’s our last day here and then we head back to the east coast. I’d like to make the most of it.”

“Well, you don’t need to ask me twice,” Peter said as he slipped his boxers off and reached down to Sophie’s hips and pulled her to him.

After the two of them spent close to a year in Newfoundland they got married and were now on their honeymoon. They had both joined a service division and were both slated to return to New York to start repairs and to fortify the east coast.

Peter rubbed his hard cock against Sophie’s amazing pussy and she leaned back against the dresser and cocked her hips against his cock as well.

Peter grabbed her breasts and kissed down them and to her stomach down to her pubic bone and licked down entering her pussy, S
ophie pushed her hips out allowing Peter better access to lick her.

Sophie spread her legs as she leaned back and Peter pushed a finger into her vagina and then another one as he slowly teased her, licking her clit.

Sophie back him up a little and he fell onto the bed.

Sophie grabbed his cock and licked up his shaft to his head and swirled around his head and then took him in her mouth. She jerked him off as she slowly teased his cock with her mouth.

Peter thrust into her mouth a little. She started working on him faster. She climbed up on the bed and Peter moved up. She got on top of him and teased Peter by rubbing her increasingly wet pussy against his rock hard cock.

She did this until his cock slid into her and then she started riding him hard. She leaned back and grabbed his thighs as she fucked him hard. She lifter her hips up slightly and let the length of him tease the opening of her pussy and then slammed back down on him.

Peter wet his fingers and rubbed against her clit, opening up her pussy lips for a great view of her amazing shaved pussy.

Sophie fucked him harder and leaned down and kissed him as Peter took the cue and started fucking her from the bottom.

Peter grabbed her flipped her over and started fucking her from the top, he got on his knees and spread his legs, grabbing her legs and putting them over his shoulder.

He then pushed her legs down. She rubbed her clit and Peter fucked her perfect pussy for a few minutes.

Sophie started moaning and met his thrusts. Peter let her legs back down s he assumed missionary position and fucked her hard. He could tell she was coming as she wrapped her arms around him and they kissed hard, her tongue meeting his.

Peter came in her and he thrust a few more times just to prolong the amazing pleasure of being with Sophie.

Peter pulled his cock out of her and rolled over, Sophie moved herself so her head was on his chest. She fingered his wounds on his body.

  “Pretty sexy.”

Peter ran his fingers through Sophie’s blonde hair and kissed her head.

“I think you’ve got the market cornered on this relationship.”

Sophie moved and put a pillow under her butt to prop her hips up.
