“And, of course, the federal government has a vested interest in keeping New Orleans safe,” he glanced at Helen, “and economically stable.”

“Right,” I said, dusting off my jeans. “Now that everyone and their interests are safe, I’m headed back to my hotel.”

“What about the nightmares?” Agent Hardin asked.

I turned, Marty repeating the last word in my ear. “What did you say?”

“You’ve had nightmares. As has your partner, Martin. And many others in the hotel. Psychic nightmares.”

Blinking to clear away the flashes of the homeless man’s return, his fatal attack, I steeled myself against turning to look behind me. Nightmares were nightmares. Not reality. “What does that have to do with anything?”

“They’re real, you know. They’ll come to pass.”

The sinking in my stomach scared me more than the lack of sense that he was lying to get my attention and cooperation. “Dreams are dreams.”

He shook his head. “Not these dreams. And I think you know that.”

I fought the urge to look around, to seek the scruffy homeless man I’d seen emerge and—

“They come true, you know. Unless you stop the cause.” Like the well-trained federal agent he was, he didn’t grin, but I heard triumph in his voice. “New Orleans needs your help, Miss Kelley.”

  About the Author

Theresa Glover spends her days plumbing the dark depths of the human psyche in search of new, frightening character inspirations from the relative comfort of her marketing job in North Carolina. When not writing or crafting her ass off, she can be found buried in a book, playing Magic, or watching horror movies alone in the dark.

This book is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to any person, living or dead, is coincidental. Except that bit about that guy. That’s totally a thing. But it’s parody, so piss off.
