Things were different now however; she had promised Yin Xu Dong that she had to return, alive. The burning rage was vented along with the fire of her gun previously, vanishing into thin air. She couldn’t help but laugh at herself; was this what you call, being crazy?
You Ming opened and closed his mouth for a while before asking glumly: “You managed to get rid of the poison in your body?”
Zhuo Xiao Xuan told him that the body wasn’t actually hers, she was only being reincarnated into someone else’s body, so she did not have the poison that ailed from her previous life. After which, she briefly told him about her experiences after coming to this world, and that made You Ming exclaiming in wonder.
After which, Zhuo Xiao Xuan asked: “What about you? How did you transmigrate? Did your entire body travel over with you? How are you alive without he antidote from the organisation?”
“Me? After I returned to the organisation, they reported be, and I was tortured and thrown into the mass graves. After I woke up, I found myself here, and I met Gao Zheng Ye by coincidence, so he brought me with him and healed him and even removed my poison, even though it’s a little strange for there to be a way to remove my poison here. After that, I became his bodyguard. I didn’t expect that your mission was to finish him off.”
“You won’t make it in time even if you save him now.” Zhuo Xiao Xuan slanted him a gaze.
“Heh, the moment I ran over here with you, I didn’t give anymore shits whether he lived or died.” You Ming shrugged his shoulders, learning how the people from this world did it.”
“Humph, what a competent bodyguard.” Zhuo Xiao Xuan said sarcastically.
After which, the two of them delved into awkward silence; the two of them weren’t talkative people to begin with. Back in the days, they would only converse where there was a need for them to do so; the place they were in didn’t allow them to sit down to drink some tea and chat. They were able to figure out each other’s thoughts with just one look at each other, so there wasn’t much need for them to talk either.
After a while, Zhuo Xiao Xuan heard someone heading over in the snow. She stood and dusted the snow off of her, saying blandly: “You should leave. Let’s not meet again in the future.” She would not allow someone who would stab her expressionlessly and without any warning beside her; she was no longer able to place her wholehearted trust in him anymore.
You Ming looked at her for a moment before sighing silently, nodded, “Alright, I promise you.” After which, he leapt up, and after a few leaps, he disappeared into the forest that was thickly laden in snow.
The man from Z organisation ran over as he lugged his sniper rifle. On guard as he surveyed the surroundings, he asked: “I’ve finished off Gao Zheng Ye on my side, what happened to the bodyguard you lured over?”
“He escaped?! Oh, it’s fine, we’ve completed our mission anyway.”
After which, the two of them returned to B City.
“Xuan Xuan… Xuan Xuan…”
After He Yi silently opened the door to Yin Xu Dong’s room and tiptoed over to his bed, he heard Yin Xu Dong muttering “Xuan Xuan, Xuan Xuan”. Just as he wanted to just kick him awake to chop off his wet dream in the broad daylight!
“Ahh!” Yin Xu Dong suddenly shouted and shot up, giving He Yi the largest of scare. From that day onward, He Yi swore that he shall never harbour the malicious thought of cutting off his wet dream, and firmly decided to learn from his brother, and added the line “it is bad to disturb other people while they are having a wet dream” to his eight establishments.
Yin Xu Dong wiped his perspiration with the back of his hand and breathed deeply for a moment, before discovering a living being was lying underneath his bed. After identifying this specimen as number-one, he asked in shock: “What’re you doing under my bed?”
He Yi patted his butt as he climbed out, “Shouldn’t I be the one asking why you’re giving people such scares?! Don’t you know you can shock people dead like that?!”
“Serve you right! You’re the one who came into my room without knocking!” Yin Xu Dong shot him a glance before getting up slowly to wash up.
Number-one was all buddy with him for the last few years, so whenever he came over, his mother would let him be, and He Yi he really did as he wished.
“Who said, who said I didn’t knock the door?! You’re the one having your wet dream to the point you didn’t hear my knocks. I thought something happened to you that’s why I came in!” As He Yi spoke, he faked Yin Xu Dong’s shouts, exclaiming ambiguously: “Xuan Xuan… Xuan Xuan…”
Yin Xu Dong’s face flushed before darkening, before flushing again, alternating between these two colours.
“Tell your brother me, exactly who is this Xuan Xuan you’re calling?” He Yi felt that he had to ask him about this.
“What do you mean who? There is only one Xuan Xuan to begin with!” It was only after he said that did Yin Xu Dong realise he slipped up. At that, he couldn’t help but want to give himself a slap.
“Hah? I don’t understand, you mean there’s only one Xuan Xuan and that is Qin Ke Xuan? Or do you mean the Xuan Xuan is Zhuo Xiao Xuan?” He Yi didn’t catch the slip-up in Yin Xu Dong’s words.
“Uh, as of right now, Zhuo Xiao Xuan is the Xuan Xuan. Oh right, what are you here for so early in the morning?” Yin Xu Dong smoked his way through and swerved the topic of the conversation as he did so.
He Yi punched him, “Says you! The winter break’s so long, are you planning on holing up at home throughout the entire duration?”
“I need to read a lot of books, there’s too much for me to learn. I’m not free to go out to play.” Yin Xu Dong tided the medicine textbooks strewn across his room.
He Yi looked at Yin Xu Dong as though he was looking at a monster. He turned to look at the brick-like medicine textbooks instead, and couldn’t help but exclaim: “Woah! I’mma beat whoever who says you’re still that gangster from before me! Tsk tsk, I mean just look at you, you’re nerdier than a nerd!” He walked over to Yin Xu Dong, flipped open a few books in pretense before howling: “Watch this!” At that, his fist found its way towards Yin Xu Dong’s abdomen as he suddenly attacked him.
Yin Xu Dong sent a fist at He Yi on reflex. Stepping half a step forward, he grasped He Yi’s arms and turned as he slammed him onto the ground over his shoulders. When he realised that He Yi wasn’t as skilled as Xuan Xuan, He Yi was already on the floor groaning in pain.
Yin Xu Dong pulled He Yi up in apology, “Sorry sorry, I’m not awake yet.”
“Uh… I… you… freak you! You’re actually secretly hating me right? And you finally go the chance today to beat me up?!” He Yi pressed his waist that almost broke, howling in rage.
After Yin Xu Dong placated He Yi for a while, he firmly decided that he was not going out to play. He had to finish reading all his medicine textbooks before going out to play. And so, he swept He Yi out the door.
Mother Yin looked at her son in concern. If this was in the past, she’d definitely be over the moon if she saw her son being so hardworking. But seeing him so desperately studying, she decided she had to say something: “Son, you can never finish reading your book, you need to understand work and play balance. It’s better you go out to play, you’ll study yourself sick this way.”
“I know, mom.” Yin Xu Dong agreed with Mother Yin, but he still disappeared back into his room to read his books. He’d read too much last night, that’s why he was dead asleep like a log this morning, to the extent he didn’t even realise when He Yi entered his room. If Xuan Xuan knew that, she’d definitely give him a beating over this.
Speaking of Xuan Xuan, he recalled his nightmare from this morning; Xuan Xuan had been in his embrace, he was kissing and kissing her but things suddenly felt off. When he looked at Xuan Xuan again, he saw that she was filled with injuries, and blood flowed all over the ground. He want to staunch her blood for her anxiously, but he wasn’t able to no matter what, and after that, he was shocked awake.
> He lied on his bed lazily, not in the mood to read any books at all. He rolled around on his bed in annoyance, and as he rolled and rolled, he realised he couldn’t roll anymore. Propping himself up, he saw Zhuo Xiao Xuan standing at the end of the bed. One of her foot was on his back, that’s why he wasn’t able to roll anymore.
“Xuan Xuan!” Yin Xu Dong jumped forward to hug Zhuo Xiao Xuan in excitement before releasing her quickly. After which, he checked her up and down, making sure she wasn’t injured anywhere.
Zhuo Xiao Xuan was expressionless, “I’m back. Let’s get married.”
Chapter 68 - Let’s Get Married
* * *
Yin Xu Dong choked. He coughed violently for a while before his flushed, “Cough cough, Xuan Xuan… are you joking?”
Zhuo Xiao Xuan frowned, “Do I look that bored?”
It’s because you’re not that’s why your words are freaking scary! Yin Xu Dong wailed mentally before saying to Zhuo Xiao Xuan: “We haven’t even reached the legal age to get married yet, we’re still children who aren’t completely grown up, it’s a little too early to get married now.”
Zhuo Xiao Xuan continued frowning, “At where I’m from, people our ages already have two to three kids.”
“Where you’re from? I’m from B City as well, I didn’t see it though?” Yin Xu Dong scratched his head as he asked dubiously.
Zhuo Xiao Xuan formed her expression, “So you’re trying to skip out on marrying me and trying to change the conversation?!”
“No, no, I don’t mean that. Look even if I agreed, our parents won’t agree no?” When he saw Zhuo Xiao Xuan showing early symptoms of her anger boiling, Yin Xu Dong immediately explained.
Zhuo Xiao Xuan contemplated for a bit. It made sense; marriage is something their parents and the matchmaker had to agree to. Though her parents were log dead, Yin Xu Dong’s parents were still alive and healthy. She was able to make her own decisions but he did not have such liberty.
“Fine, I’ll persuade your parents then.”
Yin Xu Dong fell off his bed; was she not going to be satisfied if she didn’t give him a heart attack with her words today? She didn’t look like she was that desperate of a person either, what’s up with her today? He climbed up with difficulty and grabbed ahold of Zhuo Xiao Xuan who was turning to leave and going to look for his parents apparently. Just look at her, how the heck did she look like she was asking for his hand in marriage? She looked like a killer who was going to head for her massacre! If she shocked his parents into a daze, she might accidentally mistake their astonishment for their disapproval. If that happened than his parents’ necks were at risk!
“It’s all about freedom of rights nowadays no, liberty to love and marry; let’s sit down and think over our future first. It’s hard for my parents to understand what we youngsters are thinking nowadays, so let’s not trouble them about our matters.” Yin Xu Dong dragged Zhuo Xiao Xuan back and sat her down beside him on the mat, “did you get injured this time?”
“No.” Zhuo Xiao Xuan leant against Yin Xu Dong’s shoulders, closing her eyes.
Yin Xu Dong buried his head in the crook of her neck, rubbing against her, saying glumly: “When are you going to stop doing all these dangerous stuff?”
“I don’t know.” Though placed aside what’s been preoccupying her for the longest of times, Z organisation’s not someplace she was able quit just because she wanted to; she had no choice.
“Oh…” he really didn’t want her to be taking on such dangerous jobs in the future.
“When are we getting married.”
Yin Xu Dong was rendered speechless. Was that the only thing she’s concerned away? “You, want to get married immediately?”
“…no.” She’d thought that there would be a fifty percent chance that she would not be able to make it alive since she bumped into You Ming on her mission this time. Their re-encounter this time had unraveled her grudge. Since she she was able to remain here peacefully, she should get married. Girls coming of age, reaching fifteen, were able to get married; she was already considered an old lass with her current age. In her previous life, she was still killing to survive in the organisation; the environment she was in wasn’t one where she could pay heed to marriage matters. She transmigrated into this world when she was twenty two, and she lived four five years more in this world, so her mental age was technically a that of an old old women aged twenty six to seven. Now that she’s thought of it, wasn’t Yin Xu Dong a little too young for her? Was this considering a old flower chomping on a young cattle*?
* the usual proverb is 老牛啃能草 = old cattle chomping on young grass, which means an old man dating a young girl; Zhuo Xiao Xuan uses 老花啃嫩牛 = old flower (referring to a female i.e. herself) chomping on young cattle to express how opposite her situation was.
As Zhuo Xiao Xuan thought about that, she suddenly felt all strange. “If only you were eight or ten years older.”
Yin Xu Dong was extremely speechless when he heard that. So it turns out Xuan Xuan was an uncle-con?! Was every loli dreaming of an old uncle as their partner?! He minced his lips: “What’s so great about uncles, they’re old and lifeless! You won’t share the same interests! Nor the same language! Young people should stay with young people!”
Zhuo Xiao Xuan curled her lips in disdain. Her instinctive reaction immediately had Yin Xu Dong feeling his status as her fiance very threatened, he’s decided that he shall grow a moustache from today onwards!!! Even if he wasn’t as old as an uncle, he could at least look like an uncle right!!!
Yin Xu Dong clenched his teeth and made a decision. “Xuan Xuan, let’s get engaged!”
“Engaged?” Zhuo Xiao Xuan contemplated, it probably meant the same thing as being betrothed to someone right.
“Yes! Let’s get engaged first. Look, we’re all still military school students, so we can’t get married according to the rules, so let’s get engaged first. It’s not too late to get our marriage license after we graduate right? All that matters is that we see our engagement as a marriage instead, what do you think?” Yin Xu Dong carefully observed Zhuo Xiao Xuan’s change in expression. He must knock things out first to cut off all possibility of her getting lured away by some old uncle.
Zhuo Xiao Xuan nodded her head. “That’s fine too.” She was thinking of just settling their marriage matters first even if Yin Xu Dong’s parents were against the idea. If possible, she was quite for the idea of instigating Yin Xu Dong to elope with her, but he definitely wouldn’t agree to such a suggestion, so forget it.
During her winter break, Zhuo Xiao Xuan went out for a few more missions. It was only nearing the start of the term did Z organisation stop sending her out on missions. Every time she went over to Yin Xu Dong’s place when she had time, she’d be forced to drink his blood-nourishing soup; he said that he had to help her patch up the blood she’d lost every time she got hurt, so she much drink more of this. Unbeknownst to Yin Xu Dong was his poor mother’s glum, conflicted thoughts about the entire situation. Even if she had a daughter, her daughter wouldn’t need to drink so much soup! And what’s with him cooping up in his room drinking the soup anyway? What kind of weird habit was this?
When school started again, they returned to school and resumed attending the mundane cycle of lessons and training. Zhuo Xiao Xuan would head over to Yin Xu Dong’s school occasionally to meet him. After which, they would bump into the relentless Liu Ting. Her ability to discover them was almost akin to that of a scouting soldier; no matter where Zhuo Xiao Xuan and Yin Xu Dong hid, they would always be found by her. However, the target of her relentlessness was no longer the same now—she was hooking on to Zhuo Xiao Xuan rather in an attempt to find out more about Xie Sheng Ya. Though Zhuo Xiao Xuan dumped her in Xie Sheng Ya’s direction in an attempt finish off her love rival, Zhuo Xiao Xuan ultimately still ended up being bugged by Liu Ting. In the end when she got annoyed by Liu Ting, she threatened Xie Sheng Ya murderously when she returned to her school and had him to s
ettle his troublesome woman himself.
Other than Zhuo Xiao Xuan needing to head out occasionally for missions—something Yin Xu Dong was unable to keep a peace of mind about—the two of their lives were relatively calm. Zhuo Xiao Xuan would occasionally bother herself with the lovestruck Yin Xu Dong by her side. As for all of Zhuo Xiao Xuan’s pursuers around her, Yin Xu Dong had his hands tied. Though Military College wasn’t much larger than Military Meds College, their rules were a lot more stricter, so it was very hard for him to enter her school. Hence, it’s usually Zhuo Xiao Xuan heading over to his Military Meds College to look for him.
If we’re talking about unforeseen events happening, then there was that once Yin Xu Dong was called out by someone to meet up outside. Yin Xu Dong hadn’t been particularly keen about meeting someone so sneakily, but that person told him: “I know Zhuo Xiao Xuan. Let’s meet.”
He froze. Was this his love rival trying to scare him off?! Argh! This bastard’s lookin’ down on him huh! He’s gonna show him what he’s got so that bastard’ll know he ain’t someone he can provoke. Yin Xu Dong sharpened his surgery knives, the scalpels flashing.
When he finally met the person, his first reaction was: Fvck! So the legendary uncle makes his appearance!
In the face of this unprecedented uncle of a love rival, Yin Xu Dong stared him up and down. This uncle love rival—as expected—was pretty legit; he was completely unruffled even under Yin Xu Dong’s beaming x-ray gazes.
