  “Yep, that’s my baby.”

“It’s gorgeous,” she said, wondering if that was too strong. He seemed to light up at the praise, however, so she decided it was just right.

“Thank you. I designed it myself.”

“Can I ask kind of a personal question?”

He grinned again. He probably had no idea how dangerous that was. She had never wanted to assault a man so badly. “Sure.”

“Why do they call you Snake?” Her eyes went back to his vest and he followed them. Then looking around like he was making sure no one was watching, he reached down and pulled up his t-shirt. Caitlin thought everyone in the room had to be able to hear the pounding of her heart. His chest was as sexy as the rest of him, taut and cut and covered with the image of a black python. She’d never wanted to touch a tattoo so badly before in her life. “Oh,” she squeaked out. “He’s…interesting.”

He chuckled and dropped his shirt. Even his laugh was sexy. “He’s a symbol of fertility, rebirth, transformation, and immortality.”

That made her smile. It sounded so…poetic…and at the same time she could completely identify with it. “I should get one of those,” she said. “I’m working on my own rebirth.”

His grin changed slightly…it looked almost wicked as he said, “Show me your chest, I’ll tell you if my artist could cover it or not.” Caitlin knew for sure that her face had to be bright red then; it was burning up. Snake was laughing. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to embarrass you, love.”

Love? Did he just call me love? Is that an Irish thing…or is it affection? The heat from her face moved down her neck and through the rest of her body. She was almost tempted to show this man her chest…not that he’d be very impressed with it. But sometimes men were just men and sex was just sex, and they were both adults. Maybe it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to hook up with some random guy, just once…

“Caitlin?” The sound of the voice annoyed her and she didn’t even know who it belonged to. All she knew was that it didn’t come from the object of all of her attention across the table. Snake’s beautiful eyes went up first and hers followed them. A man stood next to the table. He was dressed in a funky pair of amber-colored skinny jeans, a multi-colored jacket, and Buddy Holly glasses. His hair was long and greasy and Caitlin had no idea who he was.

“Yes?” she said, making sure he heard the question mark at the end, and hoping he could hear that she was annoyed…and busy.

His eyes went to Snake, who was smiling at him. The man looked nervous as he said, “I’m Michael. We were supposed to meet for coffee.”

Caitlin heard him, but it was suddenly like a fog had descended down on top of her. She was hit in the face with the realization that she’d just made an absolute fool of herself with the hottest guy on the planet…and he let her. He’d probably been laughing at her the whole time. With wide, questioning eyes she looked at Snake. He was grinning at her. “Oh my God. Why didn’t you tell me?”

“And turn down coffee with a beautiful woman? Do I look crazy to you?” He was making fun of her now. If Caitlin knew anything it was that she wasn’t beautiful. Her eyes filled with tears as she stood up and almost knocked over the chair.

  “Excuse me.”

“Caitlin!” She was already halfway to the door as Snake called out after her. She didn’t know what Michael was doing and she didn’t care. She pulled the door open and nearly ran headfirst into a man in a suit who was entering the coffee shop. He cursed at her and she mumbled an apology. She was finally out on the sidewalk, taking a deep breath of the sweltering air, when she heard Snake say her name again. She stepped off the curb and then she heard something else.

  “Ian?”

It wasn’t the name that stopped her in her tracks, it was the sound of Snake’s voice as he said, “No, you must be mistaken.”

“No…I don’t think I am. Ian Parker, right? From Dublin.”

“I said no. My name is Finn McGregor.” He sounded upset, or angry. She almost turned around but reminded herself that it was none of her business, and he’d just let her make a complete fool of herself so why would she care if he was upset anyway?

“Finn McGregor, my ass,” the other man said…and that was when the fight started.
