  ‘Hiya, Sol,’ she chirruped. ‘What’s happening?’

  ‘He’s going to write a book,’ Merriment announced.

  Janey Mack gasped, her eyes opening wide. ‘Are ye, Sol?’ She ran towards him, letting him scoop her up in his arms.

  ‘I am.’

  ‘Will I be in it?’

  ‘Of course you will,’ Solomon replied, and Janey Mack squealed and hugged him tight, delighted by the notion of being immortalised in print.

  ‘Oh, that’s dandy,’ she cried. ‘That’s the dandiest thing I ever heard,’ and she squeezed his neck tight, holding her hand back to touch Merriment’s head.

  ‘We’ll all be in it,’ she sighed contentedly. ‘Even Corker.’
