“I wasn’t gone so long, love,” Grell said, smiling.
“Well, there’s something I wanna talk to you about,” Ted said, holding his head high and trying to be serious.
“Oh?” Grell looked intrigued. “Is it something perverse?”
“No!” Ted scolded. “Our engagement.”
“Oh?” Grell still seemed interested. “What about it?”
“I was talking to Asta, and he kinda gave me some perspective about my squishy mortal life,” Ted replied. “Got me thinking about what I want for the future.”
“Does this mean you’re accepting?” Grell asked patiently, his hands lightly stroking Ted’s hips.
“It means I’m willing to accept being permanently engaged for the near future while we figure our shit out,” Ted said carefully, “because somewhere along the way, in spite of all the murders and blood and shit, your insane charms actually got me kinda hooked.”
“I am quite charming. That’s very true,” Grell said proudly, kissing Ted’s lips. “Mmm, so it’s a yes?”
Ted’s cheeks promptly caught on fire, and he took a deep breath. He’d spent so long being alone, and he was absolutely crazy about Grell. Fuck it. He was going to go for it.
“It’s a yes,” Ted confirmed.
Grell cackled triumphantly and swept Ted into a passionate kiss. “Oh, my love, my beautiful love. You’ve just made me the happiest man in all of Xenon.”
“Oh yeah?” Ted teased, his heart so full that he thought it was going to burst inside of his chest. He leaned in close, nipping at Grell’s ear as he whispered, “Take me to bed, and I guarantee I can make you even happier.”
“Just when I think you can’t get any more perfect, there you go, proving me wrong.” Grell held Ted close, preparing to blink them away. “Ready, my love?”
“Fuck, yes.” Ted smiled. He was ready for anything: for the promise of awesome sex that was about to be fulfilled, for a life waking up every day next to this handsome king, and for making the most out of each and every moment.
Asta was right, that little shit.
Life was too short not to be happy.
